Reading I: 1 Kings 17:10-16

‘Te jar of four shall not go empty, nor the jug of oil run dry, until the day when the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’

Reading II: Hebrews 9:24-28

So also Christ, ofered once to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to take away sin but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him.

Gospel: Mark 12:38-44

How much am I willing to give to God, not just in money, but time, attention, fdelity, devotion and love?

Question for Children:

What is one thing I can do this week to be generous like the widow in the Gospel?

Critical Ballot Amending NYS Constitution: Proposal 1 is A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing

New York has a critical referendum on the ballot this November, “Proposal 1,” often called the “Equal Rights Amendment.” While that suggests a noble cause, Proposal 1 has dangerous consequences, and we are urged to vote No. Proposal 1 is a wolf in sheep’s clothing that could lead to darkness for many families, as it disregards the lives of unborn and struggling children in the name of political agendas.

• Proposal 1 is redundant in New York, which has already stripped away abortion limitations. It efectively legalizes abortion up to the moment of birth, and removes the people’s right to initiate any legislation protecting the child in the womb.

• Proposal 1’s inclusion of “age” as a protected class can eliminate parents’ authority over minor children’s destructive and permanent decisions they could later regret, such as so-called “gender afrming” treatments and surgeries. Te relationship between parents and their children is sacred; parents must be able to support and guide their children in accord with natural law.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

THE NEXT SVDP MEETING IS WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13TH, at 7:00 PM in the Saint John Paul II Room. New members are always welcome!

We invite you to explore the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary’s Church. Tere are no special qualifcations to join, other than the desire to join with others in helping Neighbors in need. As a group, we meet monthly. Come decide for yourself if God is calling you to this special Ministry.

In the Gospel today, Jesus tells us: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength…and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Trough your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you can show your love for our Lord and your love of your neighbor who is hungry, hopeless, alone and frightened.

Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is able to help our neighbors in need through the generosity of our St. Mary’s parishioners. Each time you donate, either through the collection slots at the doors of the church, or in an envelope marked for St. Vincent de Paul, you are helping our neighbors within St. Mary’s Parish. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, contact the St. Vincent de Paul Society at 516-627-0385, ext. 1125, or email SVDP@stmary.ws. To donate furniture, clothing or household items, please call the store in Garden City Park at 516-746-8250. Tank you for your continued support.

KINDERGARTEN VISITS

MLFD CO. 1 FOR FIRE SAFETY

In recognizing October as Fire Prevention Month, what better way to celebrate than to learn about fire safety than visiting the local firehouse? Kindergarten students from St. Mary’s Elementary School recently visited Company No. 1 of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department to learn firsthand from the firefighters who warmly welcomed Mrs. Fabis’ class and parent chaperones to the Bayview Avenue house. The group, eager to learn, absorbed valuable lessons on how to prevent fires and what to do in case of a fire. They watched volunteers dress in protective gear, which keeps them safe during a fire emergency and even got to handle some of the smaller fire apparatus shared around the group. Many students were not shy and were excited about the opportunity to sit in the firetruck for a view from behind the wheel! Thank you to the Bayview Bulls for inviting St. Mary’s to the firehouse. We are in awe of your brave and unwavering volunteer service to our community!

New High School Club Delivers Smiles

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, a new club at Saint Mary’s High School called Glamour Gals stepped out in style during its inaugural field trip with a visit to an assisted living facility, the Atria Cutter Mill, located in Great Neck.

This Club’s mission is to visit assisted living facilities, spend time with residents, enjoy various activities together, and help make the day just a little more enjoyable for everyone! Fourteen students and their faculty chaperones were part of the uplifting experience, bringing smiles to more than 20 residents. They got to know the seniors and played Bingo as well.

The outing was very successful as residents enjoyed the company of our wonderful students, and in turn, they experienced the joy of service to others! Way to go, Club Glamour Gals members. We look forward to sharing more of your visits this school year.

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

HOLY HOUR - Part Two

MEDITATION

Eucharistic Adoration is a special time to meditate on God and his action in the world. It is best to select one approach to meditation and spend 20-30 minutes with it, allowing time for silence and listening to the Lord. Ask for the help of Mary, the Mother of God, who “held all these things in her heart” (Luke 2:19, 2:51).

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with Closing Benediction Mondays 3:00 - 5:00 PM in the Church

Scriptural Meditation. Read a brief passage of Scripture and meditate on each line slowly. If you make a weekly holy hour, it is especially proftable to meditate on the Gospel of the next Sunday in preparation for Mass.

Rosary Meditation. Pray the Rosary slowly; spend time meditating on each mystery in the company of Mary and ask her to give you a more intimate knowledge of her Son.

Doctrinal Meditation. Use Scripture passages or a few paragraphs from the Catechism of the Catholic Church that elaborate on one teaching of the Church. Consider how it applies to your life. (Suggested points: Sunday – Resurrection, Monday –Incarnation, Tuesday – Mercy, Wednesday – Holy Spirit, Tursday – Eucharist, Friday – Passion, Saturday – Mary)

Life Meditation. Deepen your examination of conscience by considering what area of sin you struggle in most and asking the Lord’s help with specifc struggles; consider what you have to be grateful for and how you show gratitude to God; think about the commandment to love your neighbor and ask God how He is calling you to love your family, friends, coworkers, and the poor in your daily life.

Te Divine Praises

Blessed be God.

Blessed be his holy Name.

Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man.

Blessed be the Name of Jesus.

Good Samaritan House

SHARE CHRISTMAS

“Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble, the Lord delivers him.” (Psalm 41:1)

Tis is the 28th year that St. Mary’s Good Samaritan House will be supporting local families who struggle to provide a traditional Christmas for their family members. Our support for these families, of course, includes providing food for them. But we also like to provide gifts for them and their children. Many of these families rarely have the disposable income to purchase special gifts for themselves or those they love. Tey are truly struggling every month just to make ends meet, some months they have more success than others.

We are ofering a couple of ways for our parishioners to help these families have a less stressful holiday if they choose to. Our ofce really appreciates donations in the form of gift cards. Tis allows us to shop for individuals around the holidays, tailoring their gifts to best meet their needs. Any leftover gift cards are used throughout the year to support these families with needed items. An example of when we would use a leftover gift card is around September for a single mom to buy shoes for her children before school. Suggestions for gift cards that would make wonderful gifts include:

Marshalls/TJ Maxx Raindew

American Express Visa

If you prefer to shop for gifts yourself, please fll out the form below, and we will send you, by November 18th, a “Wish List” created by a specifc family or a person in need. You may also email kkosciusko@stmary.ws to get on the “Share Christmas Shopper” list.

Gifts and gift cards can be dropped of to our ofce Mondays, Wednesdays, and Tursdays from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Tey can also be dropped at the Parish Ofce during its normal business hours. Please label any donations with your name, “Share Christmas,” and your assigned family number. Please deliver all gifts by Tursday, December 5th.

As always, your generosity and the spirit in which you give to those in need are so appreciated. We sincerely hope you and your family experience the beauty of God’s grace this holiday season. We hope you have much joy and peace and many beautiful moments.

What is a Knights of Columbus Family?

We are Catholic families building a bridge to our faith. Our lives, time, eforts, and resources are dedicated to these values: Charity. Unity. Fraternity. Patriotism.

We come from diferent places, backgrounds, and all stages of life. But the common thread is our Catholic faith. We are Catholic families seeking to improve ourselves and the world. It’s one thing to say who you are. It’s another thing is to live it. Put your values into practice. Become a Knights of Columbus family.
