Monday, October 7th - MEMORIAL OF OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY

Te Catholic Church dedicates the entire month of October to the Holy Rosary. Tis month-long observance is largely due to the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, celebrated on October 7th. According to legend, Mary entrusted the Rosary to St. Dominic in the 13th century to aid in conficts with the Albigensians (who held that the physical world was inherently evil). Later, the Dominican pope, St. Pius V, extended the popularity of the Rosary by introducing this feast day in 1571. Toward the end of the 19th century, Pope Leo XIII promoted the practice of dedicating the entire month of October to the Rosary.

Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, Pray for Us!

Religious Education

Smiles, Friends and Names

Religious education classes began on the Little Flower’s saint day (October 1st). St. Térèse of Lisieux teaches us so much through her simplicity, purity of heart, and childlike trust in God.

Catechists welcomed students back with a hearty smile, and invited each one to share something about themselves with classmates. We always take time to welcome students by name – names have great signifcance. As the prophet Isaiah tells us, “But now thus says the LORD, I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” Te focus on the frst day of class also centered on why we gather each week, and how we accomplish Catholic formation.

Everyone is excited to begin a new year in religious education.

May God bless the children, their families and the work we set out to do in HIS name this year!

Mrs. Granieri

“I do not well see what more I shall have in Heaven than now. I shall see the good God, it is true; but as to being with Him, I am wholly with Him already upon earth.” – St. Térèse of Lisieux

RESPECT LIFE MONTH STATEMENT

October 2024

Most

Reverend Michael F. Burbidge

We are living in an exciting time of revival. Our National Eucharistic Congress, and the Eucharistic processions that led to it, involved hundreds of thousands of Catholics who will never be the Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist, gives us the fullness of life. He calls each of us to respect that

fragile, or vulnerable, they are the most in need of our care and protection. Pope Francis reminds us that “every child who, rather than being born, face of Jesus Christ, bears the face of the Lord,

But what we now see is has tragically created a national mindset where many Americans have become comfortable with some abortion industry to continue to provide any amount of abortion. Given this challenge, the U.S. to address all the ways in which human life is threatened, “abortion remains our pre-eminent

brothers and sisters, destroying more than a 2

“We are facing an enormous and dramatic clash between good and evil, death and life…”

In a tragic way, abortion has become the preeminent priority for others as well. We see many politicians celebrating the destruction of preborn children, and protecting access to abortion, even up until the moment of birth. Few leaders are standing up to limit the harm of chemical abortion (abortion pills) to mothers and children, which is now the most common form of abortion. And heading into the November elections, as many as ten states face gravely evil ballot initiatives that would enshrine abortion in their state constitutions.

Pope St. John Paul II’s words resonate today: “we are facing an enormous and dramatic clash between good and evil, death and life, the ‘culture of death’ and the ‘culture of life’ … we are all involved and we all share in it, with the inescapable responsibility of choosing to be 3

And so we need a revival of prayer and action:

• for the legal protection of every human life, from conception to natural death, and to vote for candidates who will defend the life and dignity of the human person.

• We must call for policies that assist women and their children in need, while also continuing to help mothers in our own communities through local pregnancy help centers and our nationwide, parish-based initiative, Walking with Moms in Need

• from participation in abortion, through the Project Rachel Ministry

• Most importantly, we must rededicate ourselves to fervent prayer on behalf of life.

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Prayer Before the Blessed Sacrament

Lord, Jesus Christ, I believe You are as truly present in this holy Sacrament as You were when dying upon a cross for our salvation or as You are now enthroned in glory in heaven at the right hand of the Father. You said that You would give us Yourself as the bread of life, which if we eat we shall live forever (John 6:25). I believe this truth because You are truth itself. With confdence in Your loving forgiveness therefore I have approached Your altar conscious that my unworthiness to receive You is outweighed by Your desire to be united to my soul. You desire to nourish my soul on its earthly pilgrimage until the day when I shall be with You in the eternal banquet to feed on the unveiled beauty of Your Presence forever. May this Sacrament of Your Body and Blood which I have received be to me the cleansing of all my sins the strengthening of what is weak within me and my sure defense against all the perils of this world. May it bestow on me Your forgiveness and establish me in Your grace. May the holy Eucharist be to me the medicine of my life the abiding memory of Your Passion and death my stay in weakness, the Viaticum and sure supply of all my life’s pilgrimage. May this wondrous Sacrament lead me as I go, bring me back when I wander, receive me when I return, uphold me when I stumble, raise me again when I fall, strengthen me to persevere even unto the end, and bring me to Your glory. O Jesus, may the blissful presence of Your Body and Blood so change the state of my heart that it may never again fnd sweetness in anything but You alone. Let my heart love no other beauty, seek no unpermitted love, desire no consolation, admit no other delight, care for no honor but Your honor, stand in fear of no enemy or sufering in this life. You are my God, forever and ever. Amen - St. Tomas Aquinas (12251274)

Cheerful Catholic Academic Scholarship

THE SCHOOLS OF ST. MARY

in Memory of Alumnus Jonathan Diller ’10 Announced

The Town of Oyster Bay held a press conference on Monday, September 30, at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh, announcing the launch of the Detective Jonathan Diller Scholarship Fund.

With a host of media outlets present, Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino proudly delivered the news of joining forces with local business MGD Investment’s principal, Larry Weinberger, who came to him with the idea of creating an event in memory of the fallen NYPD hero, who was killed in the line of duty in March 2024. From that moment, the event has built up steam, and the community is playing a vital role. The date is Wednesday, November 20, at the storied entertainment venue on Railroad Avenue beginning at 6:30 PM. Stephanie Diller, the widow of Det. Diller bravely stood alongside Supervisor Saladino and other dignitaries to announce the establishment of the scholarship, which will benefit students at Saint Mary’s High School in Manhasset, where the late Detective was a member of the Class of 2010.

Principal Gerard J. Buckley was invited to the podium to speak on behalf of St. Mary’s High School, where he publicly thanked all of the parties involved, especially Mrs. Stephanie Diller, for the generous gift of this named scholarship. This scholarship will not only provide financial support

but also inspire future St. Mary’s Gaels who aspire to live a life of service beyond self while achieving academic success.

Supervisor Saladino also shared at the news conference that Mr. Weinberger made the first donation of $5,000 that morning, emphasizing the importance of this initial contribution to kick off the $100,000 goal of the fundraiser.

Tickets for the November 20, 2024, fundraiser at Mulcahy’s are available online at muls.com, and donations to the Detective Jonathan Diller Scholarship Fund can be made online by visiting saintmaryshs.org or scan the QR code.
