2021-2022 2022-2023 CURRICULUM GUIDE

Guidelines for Dropping a Course A student must have the approval of his/her parent or guardian to drop a course and must process the request for withdrawal with his/her counselor. Once the semester begins, the following rules apply: • • •

Dropping a course is only permitted between registration and April 15 of the preceding school year and the first day of school to the 30th day of the enrolled semester. If a student drops a course on or before the 15th day of the semester (not including holidays, institute, and non-attendance days) no record of the course appears on the student’s transcript. Students who drop a course between the 16th and 30th day of the semester (not including holidays, institute day, and nonattendance days) will have the course title and a grade of “W” (withdrawn) recorded on their transcript. (Note: “W” grades are not included in computing grade point average and do not affect honor roll eligibility) • Cannot drop if below the minimum graduation requirements • Students will not be added to a new course within a semester after the 16th day of class due to dropping a course • Students who drop a course on or after 31 days of the semester (not including holidays, institute day, and non-attendance days) will have a grade of 59% with a“WF” recorded on the student’s transcript (Note: “WF” withdrawal failing) • A student wishing to withdraw from a course after the 11th week of the semester must complete a petition to withdraw from the course that is reviewed by the Principal’s Office • “WF” will be calculated into the overall grade point average • Saint Viator Administration reserves the right to not permit a course to be dropped

Repetition of a Course • Students may repeat one time a course in which the original grade is a D+ or lower provided: • principal’s office, the counselor, department chair concerned approve the repeat; • the repeated course is taken for a grade and at Saint Viator High School • In the case of repeated courses, the GPA will be determined by using the points from the higher of the two grades. The original grade and credit remain on the students’ academic record, however. If credit was already earned in the course, no additional credit is given.
