our vision
We are a community united in faith and sharing a vision of God’s kingdom that inspires us to imitate Christ. We are committed to passing on a life of moral values to future generations, respecting the dignity of every human life, daring to step out in faith, fiercely holding on to the truth and graciously inviting others to join us.
our mission
Our mission is to invite others to join us in our prayer as the Body of Christ as we teach the Truth of the Gospel to all and share our time and treasures with others in service and justice. We do this by trying to follow Christ’s example.
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” - John 14:6
A LET TER FROM MONSIGNOR BILL , PASTOR
dear parishioners:
N
ow is the time. Now is the time for Building Bright Futures. For many years, parish leadership, volunteers and architects studied the needs of our parish and created a master plan to address facilities. Out of all this work, our greatest need is a new Catholic Education Building. Now is the time to make our facilities match the high quality of our programs. Our current Intermediate Building is our original education building and needs a serious upgrade and the best option for us is to replace it. Our new facility will house classrooms, laboratories and locker rooms for our youth. The design of the structure will help to ensure that we do not flood as we did during Hurricane Harvey. We will increase the number of rooms available for meetings and include new office space. Now is the time to join the Archdiocesan capital campaign, IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission to help build new facilities for our seminary, to help endow scholarships for inner city schools and to strengthen reserve funds for possible future disasters.
In the past, many rose to the challenge when it was their time. Now is OUR time to make our campaign, Building Bright Futures, a grand success! I am asking for your generous support to make this vision possible. God Bless,
Msgr. William L. Young, III, Pastor
BUILDING BRIGHT F UTURES
Building on a Foundation of Faith Established in 1939, St. Vincent de Paul parish has flourished in part because of a strong commitment to Catholic education. As quickly as our church was built, a Catholic school was established. Originally staffed by the teaching Sisters of the Incarnate Word, the school has consistently grown in size and stature. Today, more than 4,000 families call St. Vincent de Paul their parish home and more than 500 day students and 550 CCE students continue faith formation in the parish school building. These young people are educated by lay teachers, 35 for the school and more than 80 CCE instructors. While the spiritual direction we provide is as strong as ever, our facilities are not. With aging buildings, we must be proactive to ensure the long-term viability of our programs. Simply put, we must invest heavily into our facilities. The construction of a new Catholic Education Building is our greatest need.
Building Bright Futures The Building Bright Futures campaign seeks to raise $10.8 million to construct a new Catholic Education Building for the day school and CCE students. This will replace the 70-year-old Intermediate Building and part of the Primary Building. The new construction will provide our students a brighter future by giving them the proper environment in which to maximize their education. This campaign will also build brighter futures for Catholics in our larger faith community. A portion of funds raised will be allocated to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston’s IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission campaign. This effort will provide needed assistance to seminarians and inner city Catholic schools, while also helping to rebuild parishes affected by Hurricane Harvey. Building Bright Futures provides a unique opportunity to build the Catholic faith – at home and beyond.
In the spirit of the many St. Vincent families that sacrificed to build our community, IT'S NOW OUR TURN TO ANSWER THE CALL. Constructing a New Catholic Education Building
T
he current Intermediate Building hasn't been renovated in nearly 30 years. Due to the age of the structure, much would need to be done to upgrade it and meet current building codes. Estimates indicate that renovation of the current structure would be almost as costly as the construction of a new building. In addition, due to current codes for plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems and installation of elevators, a renovation would actually result in smaller classrooms! Weighing both options, parish leadership unanimously approved construction of a new building. The new Catholic Education Building will be a 36,000 square-foot, two-story, state-of-theart facility. The building will house pre-kindergarten through 1st grade as well as 6th through 8th grade day students. Classrooms and hallways will be large with moveable desks and flexible space. Each classroom will have dedicated CCE storage. Presently, CCE instructors transport their own materials for each class session.
Additional features include:
• 17 classrooms, including a new science lab, visual/media lab and collaboration lab • Locker rooms and concession area. • Offices for counseling, tutoring and athletics. • Teacher work rooms.
• Lounge/study area. • An outdoor second-floor deck for group activities and parish gatherings. • An updated design to ensure that the building is not susceptible to future flooding.

Campaign Goal
Providing Meeting Space The plan includes repurposing classrooms in the current Primary Building creating larger gathering spaces for parish use. The Monsignor Jamail Family Center books space months in advance and many groups are forced to meet off campus. Creation of this new space will alleviate this problem.

I support our capital campaign. Why? From my experience, as an educator, I know the importance of environment and its effect on how children learn. Therefore, whatever we need to do to make learning more effective for our children, I support. I hope that you too will support our capital campaign. Sister Virginia O’Donnell, Honorary Chair

A
fter the destructive path of Hurricane Harvey, IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission was put on hold. As the Archdiocese began to assess the damage it became evidently clear we needed to move forward with the IGNITE Campaign in order to address the new realities of the Archdiocese. Resuming in the Fall of 2018 and continuing through the Spring of 2020, every parish in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston will participate in the IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission Capital Campaign. This very important Archdiocesan-wide campaign will seek to raise $150,000,000 in support of the needs of our Archdiocese in the following areas: • Addressing renovations and modernization of St. Mary's Seminary to include: • Refurbish the plant infrastructure • Construction of new dormitory • Renovation of two existing dormitories • Funding two educational endowments: • Archbishop Joseph A. Fiorenza Inner City Catholic Schools
Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund
• Scholarship for Catholic Elementary Schools Endowment Fund • Supporting Faith Formation to include: • Grants to support lay ministry efforts in the Parishes • Future Disaster Recovery Fund • Rebuilding our Parishes & Schools in Light of Harvey
As part of the Building Bright Futures Campaign, we have included our IGNITE campaign commitment of $1.7 million into our total campaign goal. By including our commitment, our parish is only subject to conduct one all-encompassing campaign versus multiple efforts at the same time. More details on the IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission Capital Campaign will be available on the Archdiocesan website at www.archgh.org.
Q&A
faq Why are we conducting a capital campaign now? The impending potential for large repairs on an old building and the timing of the Archdiocesan campaign are the main reasons for conducting a capital campaign now. Representatives from the Archdiocese met with parish and school leadership in January 2017 to explain the options for participation in the IGNITE campaign. The leadership group included the parish council, the parish finance council, the buildings and grounds committee, the school board, and some parish and school staff. This leadership group unanimously approved a combined campaign that would include raising money for both a new Catholic Education Building at St. Vincent de Paul and for the IGNITE campaign. The benefit of conducting a combined campaign is that the parish will not pay the Archdiocese the regular 10 percent assessment on funds raised, potentially saving St. Vincent de Paul $1 million or more.
When was the last parish-wide campaign? How much money was raised and what was it used for? The last parish-wide capital campaign was the Respecting Our Past, While Building for Our Future campaign in 2011. It was a comprehensive campaign designed to meet many needs. Thanks to many generous donors, $5.5 million in improvements were made throughout the church and school campus including: • A redesigned entrance on Buffalo Speedway.
• A remodeled kitchen and cafeteria including more seating and a new upper deck overlooking the field.
• A remodel of the St. Jude alcove at the right front side of the church providing an • The renovation of the gymnasium with expansion of seating. new heating units, improved lighting, fresh paint and addition of permanent • The relocation and remodeling of the bleachers. Perpetual Adoration Chapel.
• $1.2 million set aside for the future Daily Mass and Sacramental Chapel.
Will the current plan allow for expansion of the school population? Our current plan does not expand the population of the day school. A significant population increase would require additional space for another gym, playground and cafeteria. The current footprint of our property does not have the space required to accommodate further expansion.
What is the timeline of the campaign? The campaign will focus on major gifts from March to May. The public phase of the campaign will take place in September and October 2018.
How can I help? There are several ways you can help. Watch for campaign information in the bulletin, on the parish and school websites, and in your mail. Volunteer to help spread the word and visit with other parish and school families. Give your financial support to the effort. Finally, pray for the success of the campaign.

We are so grateful for the faith, hard work and sacrifice of so many who have been part of our school, community and parish through the years. This campaign will provide a space for the integration of faith and learning in which both children and adults can develop spiritually and intellectually. We appreciate this opportunity to take our place with families who have gone before us and help provide for the current and future needs of our SVdP community. Together as one community, let us move forward enthusiastically to touch the lives of many and assist them in their walk with Christ." Rafaelle and Faith Sepe, General Chairs

methods of giving Selecting the best gift plan depends on one’s personal financial situation and goals. As tax laws are always changing and each individual’s situation is unique, donors are encouraged to consult with financial advisors to determine which method of contributing is most beneficial to them. We encourage you to consider a 10-20 percent initial payment to begin your commitment.
P
ledges are commitments made in good faith, but are not legally binding. Donors may want to consider stretching pledges over a three-year period to maximize the total amount of support. This commitment can be fulfilled through monthly, quarterly, semiannual or annual installments. Payments on pledges are deductible for income tax purposes as provided by law. Gifts of Cash
Planned Gifts
Gifts made by cash or check are the most common and will allow St. Vincent de Paul parish to address its immediate needs. However, the parish will gratefully accept gifts in various forms, including the following:
Planned giving is the process of carefully selecting the best method and asset for making a charitable gift. A deferred gift through an estate plan or life income gift offers you the ability to support the parish and retain the income from those assets during your lifetime. Such a gift can enable you to take full advantage of the tax laws to accomplish your financial and charitable goals. Planned gifts can be made through:
Securities - Stocks, Bonds and Mutual Funds
Charitable gifts of stocks, bonds or mutual funds that have been held for at least one year and have appreciated offer special tax advantages. You will receive a tax deduction for the full market value of the gift, but you will not pay capital gains tax on the appreciated amount. If you sell depreciated stock and contribute the proceeds, you will receive both a tax deduction for the charitable gift and deduction for the capital loss. Life Insurance
St. Vincent de Paul can be named as a primary or contingent beneficiary of a life insurance policy. Life insurance gifts are simple; just ask the insurance company for the appropriate forms to make the parish the owner or beneficiary of a policy. Gifts of life insurance are tax deductible, as are the future premium payments.
• Bequests by will or living trust • Charitable Gift Annuities • Charitable Lead or Remainder Trusts • Beneficiary benefits from IRA’s, pensions, or financial accounts Please contact your tax advisor for more information about these options. Matching Gifts
Many companies offer a matching gift program for employees and retirees. This allows donors to maximize their giving potential. For information and required forms, check with your company’s human resource department.

Starting nearly eight decades ago, succeeding generations of SVdP families have banded together to do something special not only for their children — but those who would follow. They gave generously of themselves to help build and maintain buildings where learning could flourish in their minds, while the light and truth of Jesus Christ inspired and guided their hearts. Today, we feel truly blessed to have a similar opportunity to step forward and contribute to something so important to this incredible community that has given us so much." Jim and Paulina McGrath, General Chairs
St. Vincent de Paul Church and School have been a part of our family since we moved here in 2014. As parishioners, parents, and volunteers we feel blessed that we are a part of this community. Colleen and I are both Catholic school-educated and we have found St. Vincent’s to be a great fit for our family and most especially our son, Michael. We feel honored to play a role in this capital campaign and we know that this will help SVdP continue to grow and help future generations." Bill and Colleen O’Brien, Honorary Chairs
campaign prayer Heavenly Father, you bless us with gifted opportunities. Our parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and countless others built our schools and parishes that we might receive the truth of the Gospel and follow you in love and generosity. You have promised a future full of hope and, with a heart of gratitude for all the sacrifices others have made, we begin this campaign of Building Bright Futures for our parish. We also join Cardinal DiNardo in the Archdiocesan campaign, IGNITE: Our Faith, Our Mission, to build a future full of hope for our parish, school and Archdiocese. The joy we receive from seeing children learning, growing, serving and becoming disciples of Jesus is a reward that can fill our hearts. Help our campaign attain the goal set before us. What we do now will have impact on generations to come. Our parishioners, young and old, will walk the halls of our new building knowing many have provided for their bright futures. Amen
St. Vincent de Paul Church and School have been a part of our family since 1975. As parishioners, alumni, parents and volunteers; we have witnessed how special this community is, and we feel blessed to be a part of it. Those who came before us enabled our family to have a wonderful place to worship, a first-rate Catholic education, and a strong, supportive community. We feel honored and compelled to help provide the same environment for the future generations to come. Frank and Kelly Hogan, General Chairs
