Observing my fellow train passengers recently, I realised every one of them was interacting with a mobile phone. Not so
long ago, we’d have all been reading a newspaper or a favourite Penguin paperback. We now have the technology to power our homes with clean energy (p.9) or to get across town on an eco-bike (p.31).
Reaching Net Zero within the next few years feels challenging. Still, with political will, combined with human ingenuity, it doesn’t seem impossible.
The popularity of the mobile shows just how quickly new technology can become part of our everyday lives. Within the next decade or so, will renewable energy, breathing cleaner air and paying less for our utility bills seem equally commonplace? I do hope so

sn't it fascinating how our bodies remember? They can hold onto the memory or energy of physical and emotional experiences. When experiencing stressful situations, our system leaps into action, a necessary response for immediate survival. Yet, this very reaction can etch deep marks within us, developing a cycle of chronic stress. Have you ever noticed how your body reacts to stress?
When confronted with stress, our bodies initiate a physiological reaction, releasing cortisol and adrenaline to prime us for action. These hormones boost alertness, prepare muscles, and elevate energy, readying us for ‘fight or flight’ Cortisol regulates vital functions to meet immediate demands, while adrenaline increases heart rate and blood pressure. Crucial for short-term emergencies, this response can become detrimental when persistently activated, leading to chronic stress. So how does this affect our lives in the present moment?
Staying constantly alert depletes our energy, leading to adrenal fatigue from endless cortisol and adrenaline demand. This results in profound tiredness, stress management issues, and a sense of malaise. Chronic stress also numbs emotions and
clouds thinking, making it hard to focus, make decisions, and engage with life, significantly lowering our well-being and quality of life. So how can you change these cycles so that the past stops affecting the present?
This cycle, where past stresses compound with the new, can feel overwhelming. It’s as if our bodies keep a record, replaying it at the least opportune moments. Research indicates stress peaks on Monday at lunch and dissatisfaction on Tuesday. Allocating time for self-care on these days, such as a brief walk or connecting with a friend, can significantly disrupt this pattern.
Within these cycles there lies a beacon of hope for true change. Somatic practices, particularly breathwork, present a profound method to counteract stress. It’s about tuning into our bodies, listening, and gently unravelling the tensions. Have you experienced the transformative calm that follows a session of focused breathwork?
In Southsea, we're uniquely positioned to explore these practices, including the invigorating potential of cold shock therapy. But remember, a tailored approach is key, especially for those of us with a sensitive or taxed nervous system. Maybe a gentler approach is what you need, rather than jumping into a bath of ice water? At least to start with.
Somatic (body-centred) practices empower us to reconnect with our bodies and inner wisdom. They shift us from feeling overwhelmed by stress to understanding our body’s signals and responding with care and compassion. With each breath, we take control of our well-being, choosing our responses to life’s challenges.
Southsea is a treasure trove of holistic services
often offered in group settings. Whilst classes can offer some change, and community work is key, the deeper transformation occurs when your journey is personalised.
Embracing a holistic approach is crucial for true transformation. It’s not just about attending a session or two; it’s about weaving these practices into the fabric of your life, allowing them to guide you towards a deeper understanding of yourself and facilitating lasting change.
When you adopt a tailored holistic approach, you can weave together practices of breathwork, meditation and introspection for a truly lifechanging experience.
“Every day I would feel a lump in my throat from stress and anxiety, triggered just by looking at my laptop screen. After a few weeks, I realised that the lump in my throat was disappearing. After just over a month, I feel calm where I once felt stressed”

“When I started being mentored, I had trouble describing how I felt because I just felt numb inside,
foggy and disconnected. Now I feel open, and much clearer-headed. I can feel my emotions shifting inside me and I'm able to describe them, this seems to have given me access to an energy I’d forgotten I had.”
A, Client
Now, imagine taking the first step on this journey of renewal and empowerment. What areas of your life are ripe for change? What stressors are you ready to release, and what peace are you ready to embrace? Discovering your path to inner peace begins with recognising what's ready to evolve in your life.

s the endless winter gives way to the gift of spring the empty esplanades and waterside walks of Portsmouth and Southsea will once again start to throng with pedestrians and laughter whilst the gentle waft of ice cream and suntan lotion will once again linger in the air.
Meanwhile, the estate agents of the city have been buzzing with a marked upturn in enquiries and a bevy of fresh instructions reaching the marketplace place creating a successful start to the year unlike we’ve seen for several years. The major concern of everyone we speak to is what is happening with prices?
once they have a deposit arranged. Might be an expensive year for the Bank of Mum and Dad!
House prices have remained fairly stable, although the more expensive properties have had to make adjustments to stimulate interest. However, there are always houses that do not require any price reduction, either because they are unique, or they are within a housing bracket that’s in short supply — with a good pool of potential buyers.
“I think this year will see confidence continuing to return to the market
and with inflation holding steady”
I think this year will see confidence continuing to return to the market and with inflation holding steady and falling there must be a margin for interest rates to be eased, bringing relief and further confidence to those who have been waiting for a more favourable lending environment before taking the plunge.
First-time buyers have been very active, with the cost of renting now exceeding the cost of mortgages for the first time in a while, we can expect those who have been renting to step into homeownership
The relentless road works and closure of the Eastern Road have demonstrated how much we need to improve the transport infrastructure in the city. It was mindblowing this week to find Kingston Crescent and St Mary’s Road jammed with traffic, and inoperative lights outside the Dockyard, adding misery to a difficult situation. Surely now is the time to dust off the plan for the monorail system that was proposed a few years ago?
There will be much to look forward to this year from the D-Day celebrations that will see the eyes of the world focus on Southsea Common again to Victorious, Kite festivals and everything in between let’s hope for the weather and a summer to remember.

estled in the rolling countryside of West Sussex, just a stone’s throw away from Home Farm, Goodwood’s flagship restaurant stands proudly as a symbol of great British produce, quality and provenance.
For over three centuries, the family has tended to Goodwood, making it one of Europe's rare selfsustaining organic farms; a theme that has been thoughtfully entwined throughout the interior decor, with 300 years of rich farming history radiating from every corner of the restaurant.
After a warm welcome and being shown to our table, we perused the extensive food and drink menu, which includes Goodwood’s very own gin and organic range of beers.
We opted for the new lunchtime set menu;
boasting an array of delicious, organic starters, mains and desserts.
Each dish has been meticulously designed and prepared; the beetroot starter with pickled vegetables and puffed rice were not only vibrant in presentation, but an exquisite example of seasonal ingredients being used to their full potential.
The Saddleback pork chop with braised leek, roasted salsify and cream chervil sauce for mains was delicious and took the notion of ‘comfort food’ to an entirely new level.
Goodwood’s butcher is directly involved in designing dishes according to what cuts are available, curating unique menus that ensure nothing is wasted.
The meal was rounded off with an indulgent chocolate dessert and a freshly ground coffee, whilst soaking up the ambience of a bustling lunchtime; it was evident by the smiling faces on neighbouring tables that we weren’t the only ones impressed by the culinary offering and cosy, homely vibes of the restaurant.
Whether you’re looking for a traditional Sunday roast, to celebrate a special occasion, or just fancy treating your taste buds to something new, Farmer, Butcher, Chef offers a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience, and puts the best of British fare and sustainability at the heart of every dish.

Last month, The Omega Art School for adults, opened its second, highly successful annual exhibition at The Jack House Gallery in Old Portsmouth. “The exhibition highlighted the wide variety of mediums we teach, from watercolour, printmaking, collage and oils and it was lovely for our students to see their work hung in a professional gallery and achieve sales. With increasing enrolments each term, from complete beginners to more experienced artists, the school has become a really exciting, creative hub,” said Kevin Dean, who began the school about 4 years ago.
“So many people haven’t drawn or painted since their school days, but have always had an ambition to become more creative. Making art at home can be a good place to start, but the lack of direction and feedback soon becomes frustrating. Our carefully structured
10-week courses, delivered by empathetic artist/tutors provides students with practical skills and focus. A lot of people come to us, feeling that they are not good enough to join an art course, but once they get started and realise we can all tap into our creativity, they forge ahead with growing confidence.”
The summer term, starting April 22nd offers two Preliminary courses, on Monday evenings or Tuesday mornings, perfect for absolute beginners. There are also various other courses, at different levels, for people who feel they know the basics.
With the warmer, longer days ahead of us, maybe this is the time to realise your ambitions and get creative with The Omega Art School, check out: www.theomegaartschool.com email:omegaartschool@gmail.com tel: 07981 867 826 ALL ABILITIES WELCOME

Quiet luxury is coming to Southsea with the much- anticipated launch of Solent View.
Think London styling at the seaside and you start to gain a clear picture of what this delectable mix of penthouse, duplex and one, two and three bedroom seaview apartments will offer.
not disappoint.
There is no stinting in the specification for the development. Expect Neff appliances with countertops and splashbacks in Calcutta Gold Quartz in the kitchens.
Top-quality materials and appliances have been curated to ensure the best possible coastal living experience.
A spectrum of muted tones, means the spaces feel lighter and brighter. High ceilings, hand-laid wood block flooring and a soothing colour palette mean there is a visual stillness.
I always say you can tell a great deal about a place by the quality of the door furniture and the aged brass handles here do
Clean lines, covetable lighting and so much space make you want to get your tired old abode on the market as soon as possible so you can move to this delightful new address.
Minimum use of materials tends to lead to maximum impact and that is exactly what has been achieved with these new coastal homes.
All this means the full impact remains with that view – and boy what a view it is.
The changing nature of the seascape means it will always give you something fascinating to look at whatever the weather, or time of day.
From the penthouse position, you get an uninterrupted Solent vista and can expect to see everything from paddle boards to Royal Navy carriers sailing into view
Not for nothing has Southsea recently been highlighted as the Best Place to Live in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight by Muddy Stilettos, a leading lifestyle site. According to them, “Southsea combines traditional Victorian charms with the kind of edgy, hipster vibes and character you will find in Brighton or Shoreditch.”
While the three penthouse apartments are undoubtedly eye-catching and the remaining 26 apartments would make the perfect seaside residence, the two duplex apartments are just exceptional.
High ceilings elevate the feeling of space still further and the living area on the lower level, with access to a cool courtyard, means this will be the perfect party space.
