Message from Mike Dear Innisbrook Members, Hard to believe summer is almost behind us! We are looking forward to an exciting Fall at the resort. I hope you will have the chance to sample a few of our new culinary offerings. We have introduced a Seafood Raw Bar on Saturday evenings at Packard’s Steakhouse to rave reviews. An Artisanal Cheese Cart is now offered to all Packard’s diners, which I highly recommend and hope you will enjoy soon. We are also expanding our wine list to include more fine wines by the glass, as well as by the bottle in both Packard’s and Market Salamander Grille. As you all know, summer is a good window for golf course maintenance which is going very well. We look forward to hopefully have you join us for Labor Day Celebrations at the Loch Ness Pool — more details to come on that soon.

Wishing you a wonderful end to summer.

From the Desk of the Director of Golf Valued Members, I hope everyone is enjoying the summer and able to spend time with friends and family. The Grounds Team here at Innisbrook has been very busy doing their normal summer maintenance programing that includes aerifiying greens, tees and fairways on the courses and practice facilities along with verti-cutting and topdressing green complexes. In addition to this pre-scheduled work, they have also been able to complete a few projects. One in particular that has turned out really nice is the installation of irrigation and sod along the right side of hole 13 on the Island Course. Because of the lack of Irrigation previously in this area, it was impossible to keep the grass alive along that side, however that is no longer the case. The team just completed laying/planting over 14 pallets of Celebration Bermuda Sod so the hole has never looked better – I look forward to hearing your feedback. In case you haven’t heard, we are extremely excited about Salamander’s newest, managed property in Jamaica, named Half Moon. This is a beautiful, gated resort that spans over 400 acres along the Caribbean Sea and is located just ten minutes from the Montego Bay Airport. Even more exciting is that Half Moon has a championship caliber golf course, as well as two more courses that we will have access to play named White Witch and Cinnamon Hill. These three golf courses, along with the Half Moon Resort, will serve as the perfect Stay and Play Golf Experience. In addition to great golf, Half Moon will be opening a new phase of the resort called the East Cove that is set to open at the end of this year. This $78 million-dollar expansion will offer some fabulous new facilities and solidify Half Moon as one of the Premier Golf Resorts in the Caribbean. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

"From Within the Tee Box" By Director of Golf Instruction, Dawn Mercer

Consistency... Consistency... Consistency... The constant wish for most golfers. First, take a look at the contact on the club face to determine your impact position. Off-centered strikes decrease the distance. For instance, studies show a quarter of an inch off center causes 10% loss, a half inch off center causes 20% loss and three-quarters of an inch off center causes 30% loss of distance. Now let’s look at Ben Hogan’s distance chart from his book Power Golf. Example: 8 iron Max 150 yds / Reg 125 yds / Min 115 yds — that’s a 35 yard differential with a caliber ball striker. Try to calculate a maximum, regular and minimum distance for your clubs to make better club selections into the greens. Better contact and more realistic distances help your scoring.

TIP OF THE MONTH

DO YOU NEED A REASON FOR EVERY MISTAKE IN TENNIS? With every missed shot, tennis players often feel the need to invent a reason for their mistake. Then, once they have a reason for their miss, they conjure up an unreasonable solution. Below are three situations to demonstrate how thinking this way creates the incorrect mental environment and is detrimental to your game.

1

2

3

A player steps up to the baseline to serve and serves long. The solution: Step back a foot or two so the ball will land in the service area. A player is in the correct position up at the net and receives a tough low ball, but misses. The solution: Move up two or three feet into an incorrect position to cover the low ball. A player is up at the net in the correct position and one lob goes over his head. The solution: On the next point, back up to the service line or farther.

These are the solutions that players create to solve problems that are not problems at all! In each scenario, the true answer is not external and physical, but internal and mental. Let me show you why this incorrect thinking can hurt your game. In all three situations the player does not take responsibility for the failure. Instead, he shifts the responsibility to changing something external. He simply moves his position on the court. Now this may seem harmless, but a player is attaching responsibility to a new position for making the shot. In other words, he did not miss the shot, instead it was the poor position. He thinks that if he was in this other position, he would have made the shot. Sure he would! In all three cases above, the player was actually in the correct spot. But to him this did not matter; he needed a 'reason.' Why is this poor thinking? Because the player is training his mind to think that missing is related to something external. This is not the way champions think. A champion takes control internally; he keeps his mind calm and relaxed amid the barrage of external adversities that are inherent in tennis. He understands that his mental environment is the key to developing mental toughness and the pathway to more wins on the tennis court.

Joe Mattingly, Director

pipeline | 17

Do not give into this type of thinking that every miss has to have an external reason. Begin taking control of your thinking and learn to maintain a positive mental attitude without a reason or an excuse for your failures. It's healthy.
