Campari is a contemporary classic with a rich heritage at the heart of some of the world’s most famous cocktails: Negroni, Americano, Negroni Sbagliato and Boulevardier to name a few.
In over 160 years of history its vibrant red colour, multi layered bitter taste and unmistakable Red Passion have continued to inspire bartender creations and stimulate consumers’ love for the brand worldwide.
HISTORY IN A GLASS
TRENDING
Just recently, Campari has been recognized as the number one Top Trending Liqueur and for the fourth consecutive year as the number one Bestselling Liqueur Brand by Drinks International.
Inspiring limitless creations since its birth in 1860, Campari has always been at the forefront of cocktail culture, inspiring passion in bartenders across the world. Irrespective of trends that have come and gone over the years, only a select few classic cocktails have stood the test of time. Campari is front and centre cocktail history, a firm favourite among great bartenders and an indispensable component of some of the world’s most well-known classic cocktails such as the Negroni, Americano and Boulevardier, all acknowledged in the recent report.
The Negroni cocktail gained the top spot for the first time in the Best-Selling Cocktails list, after 8 years of Old Fashioned domination – with Campari as the essential ingredient of the iconic serve, which reinforces the statement that ‘There is no Negroni without Campari’.
The Negroni was created in 1919 in Florence, meaning over 100 years have passed since the creation of the truly classic drink. One of the few staples to any good cocktail menu, the Negroni is listed in the IBA ‘Unforgettable Drinks List’, well known as the bartender’s bible, in which Campari is the only brand listed as an official ingredient. Revered for its perfectly balanced combination of three ingredients; equal parts of Red Vermouth and London Dry gin join Campari the red heart of the Negroni in the original recipe that is over a century old and continues to be enjoyed today. Today we toast together to this latest achievement.
HERE’S HOW TO MAKE TWO ICONIC CAMPARI COCKTAILS!
#1 Negroni
A true classic, standing the test of time since 1919
Dating back to Florence in 1919, The Negroni cocktail is said to have been created by Fosco Scarselli in his bar, Café Casoni, after the renowned Count Camilo Negroni asked him to strengthen his favourite cocktail – the Americano – by replacing soda water with a splash of gin. Scarselli added an orange slice as garnish, rather than the usual lemon twist, and from this moment on, the Negroni was born. In celebration of the iconic cocktail’s centenary, an exclusive plaque was unveiled on the walls of the former Café Casoni,
where the first Negroni was served, proving that Campari truly has been at the heart of the cocktail from the very beginning. The Negroni is now one of the most famous contemporary classic cocktails, specifically the second most requested cocktail in the world. As a result, anywhere you go in the world, you will find it in a bar. The original recipe, the perfectly balanced combination of equal parts of Campari, Red Vermouth and London Dry gin, is over a century old and continues to be enjoyed today. The International Bartenders Association (IBA) lists Campari as an official ingredient of the Negroni, and thus, Campari the red heart of every Negroni.
Ingredients:
1 part (1oz, 3cl) Campari
1 part (1oz, 3cl) Gin (Campari recommends BULLDOG Dry Gin)
1 part (1oz, 3cl) Sweet Vermouth (Campari recommends 1757 Vermouth di Torino Rosso)
To make:
Pour all ingredients directly into a rock glass filled with ice, Garnish with a slice of orange
#2 Campari Spritz
Simplicity is often the key to the best results.
A refreshing cocktail full of taste enhanced by the sparkling aromatic note of Prosecco
Ingredients:
2 parts (2 oz, 6cl) Campari
1 part (splash) Soda
3 parts (3 oz, 9cl) Prosecco
To make:
1. Pour all ingredients directly into a wine glass.
2. Garnish with a slice of orange
Campari is marketed and distributed by Farsons Beverage Imports Co. Ltd. Trade enquiry 2381 4400.

Deep in the heart of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, lies an architectural marvel which stands as a testament to the seamless integration of human ingenuity and the natural world. Developed by renowned architecture studio Tetro, this remarkable residence is nestled amidst the breathtaking wilderness of the Atlantic rainforest located in the Nova Lima region of Minas Gerais. With its visionary design and meticulous attention to detail, this project creates an unparalleled experience where residents can immerse themselves in the lush surroundings while cherishing the dai-
ly enchantment of the magestic rainforest. Açucena House by Tetro was built within the challenging topography characterised by steep slopes. The project is a response to a sensitive understanding of the terrain, where the initial contact revealed the necessity to preserve its natural characteristics.
The act of gazing upwards, from the ground to the fifteen-meter canopy of the trees, played a decisive role in creating a concept that addresses the challenge of constructing in such a steep location while maintaining the natural environment. This design provides residents with the daily experi-
ence of looking up and witnessing the sky through the treetops from inside the house.
The fundamental approach was for the architecture to conform to the terrain, rather than the other way around. The house rises above the ground, while animal and plant life thrives underneath. The program takes shape as a harmonious blend of art and nature, occupying the empty spaces between the trees without removing or altering the topography. Every single design decision was made in response to reinforce this concept. >>

Upon arrival, the house surprises visitors with its white color, its black pillars randomly placed to blend in with the tree trunks. The house appears to float, featuring a fluid floor plan dictated by the program’s integration among the trees. Its openings and folds in the slab offer glimpses of the treetops, creating a sense of volume.
The architecture is seamlessly integrated with the natural vegetation, yet it asserts its presence. Surprise and novelty, inherent values in art, are embodied in Casa Açucena, presenting itself as a white flower amidst nature. [ V ]

Q+A: Michal Monka
Royal Gypsy
Meet Michal Monka, the mind behind Jadoo, the Sacred Nomad Blankets which capture the essence of magic and wild human spirit within.
My artistic journey began at a young age, where I grew up in the small town of Acre in the north of Israel. The desire to beautify my surroundings was deeply ingrained in me, and I would rearrange things in my home despite getting in trouble with my parents. I always had my own unique style, which was unconventional for the time and place. At the age of 14, I convinced my parents to let me enrol in a prestigious art school in Haifa. It was a sacrifice, as I had to commute four hours a day, but my love for fashion was unwavering. After four years, I graduated with honours and later served two years mandatory military service.
After my service, I worked on a movie set and fell in love with an Australian stuntman. At 22, we got married and moved to Australia, where I landed my first opportunity in the fashion industry as a fashion coordinator and producer for Mayer’s, a large department store. My experience in Australia broadened my horizons and connected me to the global fashion community.
Upon returning to Israel, I founded my own fashion production company, creating monumental fashion stills campaigns for major brands in Israel and travelled around the world producing some of the most creative photo shoots and fashion campaigns. Looking back, I am amazed at the drive and confidence I had at such a young age.
The concept of Royal Gypsy came from my personal lifestyle and experiences. I have been traveling for many years and have encountered various situations, from camping on remote beaches to attending lavish palace dinners. Through these experiences, I realised that I am a Royal Gypsy - someone who can embody both worlds and maintain the essence of one within the other. This led to the development of certain core values, including authenticity, comfort, and a sense of chic. I firmly believe that no matter if you are Royal or Gypsy, it should never be an effort to be true to yourself and maintain a sense of beauty and elegance in all circumstances.
My collection is sourced from my core values and the impressions of my travels. I am deeply inspired by tribal cultures and their ancient traditions, art, and spiritual context. I strongly believe we must preserve these traditions and respectfully use it to try to bring a sense of worldliness and consciousness to my clients. My approach is subtle and embedded in simplicity, without any contrivance or proclamation.
My brand, Royal Gypsy, is all about empowering both women and men by reminding them of their innate essence. We aim to bring out the royal and the nomads and wild spirit within, through our clothing line and most recently, our Jadoo blankets. Our collections are timeless and not confined to seasonal trends. We draw inspiration from within and are connected to the global consciousness movements. >>

You can spot a Royal Gypsy outfit from a mile away, as it exudes a unique and unmistakable energy. Our collections always incorporate sacred symbols from diverse cultures and are charged with positive energy. We believe that clothing has the power to change our vibration, and as a designer, I am very conscious of the vibration my clothing creates. Recently, I have started performing ceremonies with the Jadoo sacred blankets, which has led me down a new path of practicing and healing others like never before.
I create each piece with a certificate of authenticity that explains the embedded symbols, source, and meaning. My inspiration comes from my travels, cultural exploration, and daily meditation that includes prayer and ritual. I don’t follow a specific method for my creative processes, as inspiration can come from anywhere. Being close to the ocean and my dreams also have a great effect on my creativity. What drives me is my calling to beautify and heal anyone who comes into my studio and the world.
During the COVID pandemic, I discovered Kornit, the world leader of print on demand fabrics, and teamed up with digital designers to create my latest product, Jadoo - the Sacred Nomad Blanket.
The word JADOO means Magic in an ancient language, and the blanket is a wearable jewel that can glorify any appearance in any situation while making the person feel safe and comfortable, magnetising the right people and circumstances to manifest their dreams. >>

Jadoo is unisex and comes in many colours and symbols combination and is designed to be used as a meditation blanket, travel blanket, shawl, headdress, longi, beach blanket, yoga blanket, bed sheet, throw-over, and anything else one can imagine it to be. It is a wearable accessory that magically transforms ones appearance and makes them stand up.
In the very center of the Jadoo blanket, a power symbol of sacred geometry is purposefully poised. Radiating its magical vibration, connecting us to the deepest desires of our higher selves, honing our intentions, helping us turn thoughts to reality. Jadoo is spreading itself in the world by itself, with each person feeling the grace and sacredness of the blanket and becoming an ambassador to recommend it to friends and loved ones.
2023 -2024 are the years of Jadoo, and I am excited to launch it to the world and continue follow my calling to spread consciousness, beauty with the hope it can help heal individuals , communities and our planet. [ V ]

FROM CATWALK TO CANVAS
Can you tell us about your journey as an artist and model? How did you get started in these fields, and what inspired you to pursue them?
Both journeys started when I was very young, my passion for drawing even earlier than modelling. Since I spent a lot of free time creating paintings I started at art school when I was 11 years old. I went there three times a week after my regular school and was able to pursue my passion while learning many important qualities of art. However after my A-Levels i studied fashion design in Düsseldorf which I successfully completed. Even fashion was always something that I had enthusiasm for, which is why I worked in the fashion industry for a longer time after my graduation. But after a while I realised that I wanted to build something for myself, take a chance with my art and turn my passion into my profession, because I
believe that you need to love what you are doing to be successful and to do it every day!
As a model I started at the age of 14 when an agent asked me to try my career as a model. At this age it was also a dream to work as a model for my whole life.
I have been in several model agencies and gained a lot of experience, but when I got older I realised that this industry is too superficial for me. I worked with kind people and I worked with people who treat you badly and that’s something you need to be ok with and you must not let it get to you too much so that your self-esteem does not suffer from it. It’s not that I don’t like modelling anymore, I just know by now that modelling is not my dream job, but rather remains just a hobby. >>

PEOPLE
S/S_‘23 ISSUE 065 PEOPLE
What are some of the challenges you have faced as a young artist and model, and how have you overcome them?
As a model it was really challenging not to take things personally when some people treat you badly, especially if you are a sensitive person. In the end this aspect also distanced me from my desire to work as a model full-time as i knew that this profession will not fulfil me.
As an artist, I can say that this is exactly the challenge I am facing right now. Three months ago I decided to make my art public and in an attempt at making my dream a reality, which is being able to live as a full time artist. I quit my full time job in the fashion industry and work only part time to have more time for my art. It feels great to invest my time in things i love.
It’s hard to stay motivated when things don’t go the way you want them to. Sometimes people will try and demotivate you, but never give up! believe in yourself and follow only what makes you happy while keeping your eye on the goal at hand. Luckily i also have the support of my family, friends and especially my partner, who believe in me.
Describe your artistic style. How do you express your creativity through your work?
Most of the time i get inspired by everyday life like people or things which personally appeal to me, this could be an iconic personality or animal, even a hobby of mine like boxing. To tell you the truth I have too many inspirations in my head which I need to convey on canvas, but one must not bite off more than one can chew. The time will come for each and every idea to be executed.
Normally I work with collections that include 2-3 pictures of the same subject matter. My style is a mix of both pop art and stylised photo realistic drawings, I see myself more a visual artist and am currently experimenting with various mediums like acrylic, oil, spray paint, pencil or charcoal as
well as 22k gold leaf and epoxy resins. Every technique has its own advantages and I like trying out new things to further enhance my personal artisic style.
Could you share a specific project or campaign that you are particularly proud of? What was your role in it, and what made it memorable for you?
To be honest, I am proud of all my projects I have done so far, because every one was born from an idea which inspired me and I put lots of passion and time into. While I am drawing I forget about all the other things and can just detach myself from negative thoughts.
But it’s not just the drawing itself that feels good. What I love most is when I make people happy with my art and inspire them, like when the client sees their finished commission and is happy with it.
Once i drew a portrait of my father and me as a little child as his Christmas present. The joy I gave him made me really happy and those are the memorable moments for me.
As a young artist , what steps do you take to stay motivated and continually improve your skills?
I always try to remember that it takes time to build your own business. >>
S/S_’23 ISSUE 066 PEOPLE
...“My style is a mix of both pop art and stylised photo realistic drawings, I see myself more a visual artist”...
There is a German saying‚ ‘no master has fallen from the sky yet’ and that’s totally true. I have explored and experimented with many mediums and art techniques, but when it comes to the arts, the learning never stops and i am commited to take it as far as i can to improve further.
My motivation comes from the work itself as well as the client’s who appreciate and want to display my art in their own homes, wheth-
er it is a commissioned work or a collection picture i’m always keen to get started.
The ever-evolving world of art how do you stay relevant and adapt to changing trends while staying true to your unique artistic voice?
In the ever-evolving art world, staying relevant and true to your artistic voice is a delicate balance. Art, for me, is not confined to
museums or books; it’s a feeling expressed through various forms like music, dancing, and drawing. Instead of constantly following trends, it’s vital to believe in your unique definition of art. While some may not appreciate your work, those who love and value it will be your true audience. Therefore, remaining authentic to your artistic voice holds greater importance than always adhering to trends.

A GASTRONOMIC ICON
De Mondion Restaurant is found on the rooftop terrace of The Xara Palace, a 17th century baroque palazzo set into the bastion fortifications of the walled city of Mdina. A gastronomic experience awaits you. The seasonal and locally grown produce is skilfully transformed and masterfully presented. The care and attention to each dish reveals the individual chefs inspirations. Mediterranean, local, sustainable and fresh, with a nod to traditional French cuisine. A contemporary wine list, with recommendations by a very capable sommelier will ensure a perfect paring to each dish. The restaurant is further enhanced by exceptional service and breath-taking views of the island.

Vamp magazine meets Executive Chef Clint Grech from The Xara Palace, Relais & Chateaux,
Chef Clint Grech started his career in catering when he was very young due to the influence of his grandfather who owned and operated a very well-known catering establishment in Mellieha. Since he was a child, Clint has seen practically all his family working hands-on in this catering establishment and a passion for this industry developed at a very tender age.
Clint joined Institute of Tourism Studies where he studied for four years focusing on Food Preparation and Production. During this period Clint also managed to achieve WSIET Wines and Spirits. He was lucky to spend his first internship in the acclaimed Le Meridien London Gatwick which he describes as “an experience to remember”.
It is here that Clint understood that catering is his life and his future. During this period Clint also had a great opportunity to spend two weeks at the Gavroche with acclaimed Chef and Restaurateur, Michel Roux.
Can you tell us about your culinary background and what led you to become an Executive Chef at De Mondion Restaurant?
I started working at the de Mondion at the young age of 16 as an intern when I was doing my studies at I.T.S. I fell in love with the place and always had a dream that one day I will run the kitchen. This came true after 21 years.
What is your vision or philosophy when it comes to food and dining experiences?
I focus mainly on sustainability while supporting local produce. Malta is blessed with such interesting ingredients and produce but if we are not careful, they will be lost. So I feel it’s very important to support local fishermen and farmers.
Could you describe the unique culinary style or signature dishes that guests can expect when dining at De Mondion?
We use all parts of the Octopus. In fact I dehydrate the heads and make a Dashi out of it. So zero waste whenever possible. As a main course we serve the Suckling Pig. The inspiration and thought behind this dish is the nod to the traditional Maltese ‘spit roasting pig’, in which families and friends gather together and enjoy it. >>

I wanted to bring this celebration to de Mondion. So we created this dish ensuring all the joints of the Pork are used.
As a dessert we did a take on ‘Cannolo’ filled with baked local ricotta and finished it with roasted peach and buttermilk ice-cream.
To start with we have the ‘Gozo Octopus’ which when I purchase myself, each must weigh over 2kg.
How do you approach menu development and creating seasonal dishes that reflect the local ingredients and flavours of Malta?
My goal is to take our guests on a virtual journey around our beautiful island. My responsibility is to honour the seasons and people behind our produce. My vision is to showcase culture, history and art through gastronomy.
Menus are changed according to the produce which is fresh and in season and alter the menus on a daily basis.
In your opinion, what sets De Mondion Restaurant apart from other fine dining establishments in the country?
De Mondion is a Michelin awarded establishment and part of The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux, we treat our clients as family, just as though we are inviting diners into our home. De Mondion is set on the rooftop of the hotel and boasts outstanding views from the bastions which overlook the Maltese Islands. The restaurant is well known for its outstanding dishes and consistant high standards.
How do you foster a collaborative and innovative environment within your kitchen team?
Team work is key. We are like brothers and spend long hours together. Another important factor is motivation and discipline.
Can you share any challenges you’ve faced as an executive chef and how you overcame them?
Finding good quality chefs is getting harder every day. I try to invest in the interns and young chefs. I will train them the way needed and build them up the ladder, one step at a time. That was how I was trained.
Sustainability and ethical sourcing are increasingly important in the culinary industry. How does De Mondion Restaurant address these aspects in its operations?
We are working on a project where all our food waste goes to Xara lodge through Xara Gardens, where we have an aquaponics system together with our own farm where we get almost all our greens.
Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring chefs who aim to reach executive positions in their careers?
One of the most important things in hospitality is discipline. They have to understand the sacrifices they have to go through, but it all boils down to work with passion and work from the heart. [ V ]

A New Dimension in Mole Mapping That Saves Lives!
Early detection of skin cancer with automated total body mapping technology!
To diagnose skin cancer as early as possible, holistic screening includes not only individual moles, but the entire skin.
Automated Body Mapping is a system that can identify and track pigment spots and other suspicious skin changes on the patient’s entire body. We do this by using a special camera and advanced image processing software to capture images of the patient’s skin. The system then creates a body map of all your pigmentary changes and skin lesions like a mosaic. These images are then analysed by the AI software to identify suspicious skin changes. The AI then creates a body map to accurately mark all the suspicious areas and track the changes over time.
We simultaneously take magnified images of suspicious findings with a special high-resolution camera (up to 240x), compare the data with previous skin findings and analyse them for malignancy. Even the smallest changes can be detected with this procedure. This helps to avoid unnecessary operations. The recorded areas are of course subsequently examined by our experienced dermatologist and discussed with you.
With this worldwide most modern skin screening procedure, we can safely monitor your skin and detect abnormalities as early as possible and then treat them. Do something good for your skin and make an appointment today!

Why get a Total Body Map?
A body map tracks year-on-year changes giving the dermatologist a highly accurate baseline from which to detect changes. Body mapping can help reduce the incidence of skin cancer by detecting changes early. Early detection reduces the severity of skin cancer and quite literally saves lives.
Body mapping in conjunction with your dermatologist reviews provides an easy, reliable means of accurately comparing and tracking lesions, and conducting total body skin exams.
Did you know?
More than two thirds of all melanoma develop “de novo” on healthy skin and not from already existing moles. For optimal safety, it is important to track the entire skin in addition to individual moles. The advantages of the computer assisted ATBM procedure are obvious: This allows entire skin documentation during regular check-ups. Every visit, new photos can be compared to past sessions allowing the visualization of every change at the earliest possible stage.

Domaine de l’Ile Rosé de Provence (Porquerolles, Provence – France)
This new winemaking venture from the Chanel group is one more example of their classy craftsmanship. It hails from a beautiful island just off the coast of Provence; the benefits from the complex soils and fresh sea air are abundantly clear.
The bouquet bursts with aromas of strawberries and redcurrants, while mandarin and grapefruit give it a citrus lift. There is racy tension and a fine structure to the palate, leading to a saline and refreshing finish. This would be perfect with an array of salads –and to celebrate the start of summer. 2021 is ready to drink now, but can also develop further in the bottle.
