SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES

STUDENTS 8-9 a.m.

Check-In and Continental Breakfast

Guerrieri Center - Concourse Students receive Preview information packets and New Student Reader materials. A continental breakfast is offered in the Guerrieri Center’s Fireside Lounge. Students may also get their Gull Card student identification card. Look for additional information tables at check-in, including:

Outdoor Seminar Program

Signed up yet? These special outdoor programs provide incoming students the opportunity to build lasting friendships, encourage self discovery, learn about SU, get to know student peer leaders and have a truly unique experience before the first day of classes begin!

• Parents and Family Association

Find out information about how to become involved with SU’s Parents and Family Association.

• State Employees Credit Union (SECU)

(8 a.m.-4 p.m.) The State Employees Credit Union is the banking institution that supplies the ATM on campus. Stop by and talk to their representative to get information on student checking accounts, savings accounts and debit cards.

8-9 a.m.

Foreign Language Placement Testing

Guerrieri Center - Computer Lab Room 133 (inside Career Services) Take a computerized foreign language placement test in 30 minutes or less in

French, Spanish or German to help you decide if you want to take a foreign language at SU and to see if you are eligible to buy college credits based on work completed in high school.

9-9:25 a.m.

Welcome Session

Guerrieri Center - Wicomico Room Welcome and opening comments from your hosts, the Vice President of Student Affairs Office.

9:30-10:25 a.m.

Faculty Comments

Guerrieri Center - Wicomico Room Representing the SU faculty, Dr. Darrell Mullins, Communication Arts Department, and Dr. Arlene White, Modern Languages and Intercultural Studies Department, talk about academics at SU; providing students an opportunity to discuss concerns and expectations and to ask questions relating to University academic life.

Housing & Residence Life On-Campus Living • Students Only

Guerrieri Center - Nanticoke Room 236 Housing and Residence Life staff provide information on goals, policies and regulations, roommate issues, and programs offered to the resident student population. Students who will be living on campus are required to attend this session.

Commuting Students & Off-Campus Housing • Students Only

Guerrieri Center - Pocomoke Room 234 Representatives from the campus provide information about access to services, Dining Services, Health Services and parking services for commuting students, as well as search tools offered at the Guerrieri Center Information Desk for students looking for off-campus housing. Students who will be living off campus are required to attend this session.

I enjoy reading, researching, playing Super Nintendo and going to the beach. What advice would you give students who are just starting their college career at SU? Work hard and play safely. Get involved in campus affairs to meet new people, make new friends, and enhance your SU experience.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I like to play intramural Frisbee and soccer as well as read and watch movies. What advice would you give students who are just starting their college career at SU? Take advantage of every opportunity to try something new no matter what others may say about it.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I enjoy athletics, attending campus events and spending time with my friends. What advice would you give students who are just starting their college career at SU? Get involved! It will help you get to know the school, people and the community.

Guerrieri Center - Wicomico Room Students and parents have the opportunity to hear from representatives from the offices of Student Counseling Services; Student Activities, Organizations and Leadership; Multicultural Student Services, University Police, Student Health Services and student peer leaders.

Lunch

Commons - Dorchester Room 127 Students and their families meet for lunch and students are assigned to an advising group before they leave the dining hall. Students MUST be in the Dorchester Room at 1 p.m. to meet their academic advising group. Faculty and staff are on hand to provide resource information during lunch and to answer any specific questions you may have. Lunch time table participants are: ! Athletics ! Campus Recreation

Guerrieri Center - Fireside Lounge Preview peer leaders provide a tour of a residence hall room and a short walking tour of the campus, identifying buildings. (Weather permitting.)

Reunite with Families

Guerrieri Center - Fireside Lounge It is anticipated that the individually paced student course registration finishes during this time. Students reunite with their parents after they have completed registration.

Please note: All of the resource offices listed here are open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Please feel free to visit the offices to obtain any information that you may have missed during your Preview day.

Parents in Transition

Guerrieri Center - Nanticoke Room 236 Participants explore ways in which the transition to college impacts parents and students. They also examine strategies parents and students can utilize to enhance this developmental transition so that the college experience becomes academically rewarding and emotionally strengthening. Topics include separation anxiety, emotional adjustment, campus resources and academic strategies.

I participate in paintball, hockey, basketball, weight lifting, fishing and rollerblading activities. I really like to just read or play on Xbox-live with friends. What advice would you give students who are just starting their college career at SU? First … go to class! Second … prepare for exams more than just the night before! Last and most importantly … make the most of your time here, because the harder you work now, the more fulfilling your future will be.
