Self lubricated by displacement lubricator for the cylinder, and pump lubricator for rotating mechanical components. Brake power measured by dynamo for torque measurement. CONDENSER Atmospheric pressure condenser with four pass water tube. Hot well for condensate collection with graduated level gauge directly connected to the condenser.

The unit is totally self-contained with protective anti-rust and enamel finish. The boiler and living steam pipes are properly lagged.

STEAM RECIPROCATING ENGINE SE 05 AND BRAKE ASSEMBLY

The steam engine is of the single cylinder double acting design incorporating a slide valve: it consists of the following main parts: ¾ Cast-iron bed plate, consisting of two parts aligned on the same plane - one of these two parts bears the crankcase and the structural frame for the engine, and the other part embodies the bearing support for the dynamometric brake flywheel; ¾ Crankcase in cast iron construction, secured to the bed plate by bolts and nuts, the crankcase mounts the vertical supports for the two self-lubricating ball bearings; ¾ Cast-iron frame for cylinder body. The cylinder columns consist of two sturdy ribbed T-shape sections which embodies two cylindrical guides - between which the piston-rod cross head slides; ¾ Cast-iron cylinder body - with slide valve. The cylinder body is thermally insulated on its exterior by coats, to cut down heat losses to minimum, and is covered with a thin metal sheathing. Two drain cocks are fitted on the cylinder, at top and bottom dead centre level, for draining condensate when starting the engine. On the lower end of the cylinder, it is fitted a brass stuffing box with glands for the piston rod. Crank gear consisting of a crankshaft, connecting rod, piston-rod with piston-rod cross heads, piston. 1. The steel crankshaft is fitted with adequate balance weights for balancement of rotary masses: on one end of it the eccentric-shave is keyed, and on the apposite end the flywheel, the braking system and the revolutions counter drive are fitted.

2. The piston-rod of steel has cylindrical shank worked out by turning process. The connecting rod is linked to the piston-rod cross head by a steel pin. The connecting rod is mounted to the crankshaft through an antifriction metal bearing. 3. The piston and the piston-rod are assembly by a way of a taper joint and a stop nut: this mode of assembling ensures maximum of stiffness to the part. The cross head consists of two curved surface guide blocks which slide between the cross head guides in the cylinder columns. This arrangement ensures outmost axial rigidity both of piston-rod and piston, not allowing any rise of components of lateral motion. The slide valve consists of: 1. Slide valve eccentric-strap and slide valve eccentric shave is mounted on the crankshaft and is secured to it by means of a rod fastening screw. The eccentric strap is built in bronze and is parted in two halves assembled through passing bolts. The eccentric strap is assembled with an advance angle of approx. 15°. 2. The slide valve connecting rod is linked to the eccentric strap by a slot joint: its jaw is linked to the slide valve stem by a pin. 3. The slide valve rod guide is fastened to the slide valve by way of nut and set nut, with a view to check at any time the position of the latter with respect to the steam ports. The slide valve rod passes through the upper part of the slide valve casing by means of a blind stuffing box. This arrangement makes sure a perfect adherence of the slide valve to the steam ports. DC BRAKE The Brake is a DC generator with independent excitation of swinging frame design and It is co-axially mounted to the steam engine by means of a flexible coupling. It is capable of braking up to 1 kW at 1500 RPM. The engine-brake assembly is mounted on a steel frame with vibration dampers. Torque is measured by means of an harm with calibrated counterweight (upon request a strain gauge load cell with direct reading in Nm is available). Speed is measured by a pulse pick-up.
