BFD-6
INTERCHANGEABLE ENGINES EDUCATIONAL UNIT
BFD/6 unit with 4stroke diesel engine and additional accessories
This test unit of simplified constructive details has been designed to permit the individual conduction of tests on internal combustion engines and self-teaching experiments by students. Relevant technical requirements are very flexible as a result of the application of a loading generator as power brake unit quite suitable for being fitted with any kind of small power rate prime mover. The educational applications of this small, self-contained engine test unit are wide: Principles of operation of internal combustion engines of different type suitable for high school level of education thanks to the possibility of equipping the unit with additional investigation instruments up to the plotting of the engine cycle and to a complete computer assisted data acquisition and experiment processing system. Vocational level, suitable for training technicians in the field of industry maintenance activity (motor pumps, small motor generators, motor compressors) and in the field of agro mechanics, where these small engines are of common use for several applications like motor pumps, small hand driven tractors, motor cultivators, seeders, atomizers, spreaders, fertilisers, mowers. In this particular vocational field, it is in fact strongly felt the need of a own operational autonomy by the operators in agriculture to examine failures, execute repairs and routine maintenance on their own equipment and machines.

BFD-6
The B.F.D./6 test unit is available both in a basic design with different type of engines or without engines and in a version equipped with optional out fittings. These are of interchangeable design for the purpose of obtaining the basic equipment matching with more than one type of engine. The following engines are available: 2 stroke Otto cycle 4 stroke Diesel 4 stroke Otto cycle. The engines supplied are provided with standard attachment and flexible joint half-coupling for easy installation on the test bed and self alignment with the dynamometer. Provision has been made on these engines for fitting of suitable devices developed by us for detection of open and indicated cycles. This sort of accommodation can be made also to any other type of engine, provided adequate characteristics are available on this unit.
diesel engine single cylinder, four stroke air cooled displacement 224cm3 max power 3kW at 3400 rpm max torque 10,4 Nm at 2400 rpm
gasoline engine single cylinder, four stroke air cooled displacement 220cm3 max power 3,6kW at 3600 rpm max torque 11,4 Nm at 3000 rpm
CONSTRUCTIVE DETAILS The B.F.D./6 test unit is composed by a carrying structure, of sturdy frame steel construction, bearing the DC dynamometer and the engine under test and by a control board housing all the instruments and controls. The engine housing bed plate has dual vibrations damper suspension and it is provided with a standard attachment means for industrial single cylinder engine with plane bottom crankcase, rating up to 5 hp at 6.000 r.p.m. A flexible coupling provides for connection of the engine to a self-ventilated dynamometer loaded by a control potentiometer. The motor-dynamo unit is used both as starter for I.C. engines (in the upgraded version) and as power output generator (as a dynamometer). The stator part of the brake is equipped with a lever arm and a torque detector for direct measurement of torque output. A dial on the control board allow an instant reading of the torque values: a schedule converts the power output in Hp with respect to r.p.m. The choice of this equipment of regular use in industry field depends upon the versatile and optimum degree of the brake efficiency its simple and boundless mode of operation with no need of maintenance, involving no hazard or trouble possibilities, provides all premises for an optimum grade of efficiency within a wide r.p.m. range.
