AIR COMPRESSOR EDUCATIONAL UNIT
This compressor test unit is constituted by a base frame covered with chequered steel plate on which are mounted a two-cylinder compressor, rating 10 atms maximum pressure and 400 litres per min. capacity, and an electric motor rating 4 hp, belt-driving the compressor. Compressor accessories, such as pulse damper, air refrigerant and condense separator are equipped with instruments conceived for educational purposes. Pressure may be continuously regulated at two stages: high stage from 7 to 3 atms., and low stage from 3 to 0,8 atms., by means of a pressure controller. The compressor feeds two reservoirs with capacity of 300 litres each which are suitable to be inter-connected both series and parallel, this depending upon the kind of experiment to be performed. On the reservoirs is installed the equipment necessary for the conduction of fluid dynamics tests. It comprises two interchangeable pipings for measuring the load loss, a differential pressure mercury type gauge, a differential pressure water-type gauge and 5 orifice gauges for air flow rate measurement. On these pipings are installed instruments for determining the educational parameters, such as water meters, thermometers, gauges, etc. The assembly controlled from a control board comprising control and measuring equipment, both electric and pneumatic, and a record clock for accurate recording of duration of test times. The air pressure that is supplied to the assembly can also be utilised for users of the institute, such as pneumatic equipment tools and for cleaning purposes.

TYPICAL EXPERIMENTS PERFORMED WITH THE EDUCATIONAL UNIT TYPE GCD3/1 The G.C.D.3/1 unit has been especially designed to carry out laboratory tests related to air pressure and relevant applications such as: ¾ Checking manometers ¾ Load losses in pipe systems ¾ Flow-rate measurement ¾ Air temperature at different compression levels ¾ Moisture content in air and using the psicrometric table ¾ Cooling water quantity and determination of heat output ¾ Measurement of electric motor ratings: voltage, current, output ¾ Energy balance and determination of compressor efficiency ¾ Flow rate testing by means of orifice gauge and differential manometer ¾ Safety valve calibration ¾ Pressure gauge calibration The unit can be supplied upon request with a double stage compressor for the investigation on the performance and efficiency of the double stage system.
