DOUBLE CIRCUIT EDUCATIONAL REFRIGERATION UNIT
The educational refrigeration plant G.F.A.2-C. includes two Freon compressors and is designed for training students both from a theoretical and a practical point of view in operating the types of commercial refrigeration and air conditioning systems. Beside the usual fittings of a refrigeration system in the plant are emphasised the basic difference existing among the two control devices of the refrigerant fluid in the evaporation phase. These devices are the capillary expansions tube and the automatic expansion valve (A.E.V.) The principle of operation of the plants is based on the "piloted mode" for which all components and accessories are mounted on a vertical panel. This arrangements enables: ¾ Making consequentiality of single operation clear ¾ Allowing parts interchangeability ¾ Evidencing differences existing in the expansion systems. Moreover it is also possible to reproduce artificially troubles on the system through hand valves in the lines.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANT The plant is supported by a metal frame mounted on castors and embodies two independent refrigeration systems. These are the following: ¾ Expansion through capillary tube ¾ Expansion through automatic expansion valve. CAPILLARY TUBE SYSTEM The compressor of the hermetic type has a power output of 1/4 Hp. and embodies two three way cocks on the suction and delivery lines for charge and maintenance operations. The condenser is cooled by a independent electrical fan. COMPRESSION LINE Which includes: ¾ Cut-off valve ¾ Pressure gauge - scale 1-30 bars - and cut-off valve ¾ Filter drier ¾ Sight glass and moisture indicator on the compression phase and cut-off valve ¾ Expansion capillary tube ¾ Sight glass and moisture indicator on the expansion phase ¾ Finned evaporator (in the freezer). SUCTION LINES - which includes: ¾ Sight glass and moisture indicator on the cutoff valve ¾ Pressure gauge - scale 1-10 bars - with cut-off valve.

AUTOMATIC EXPANSION VALVE SYSTEM The compressor assembled on this expansion system has the same characteristics of the one assembled on the capillary system. COMPRESSION LINES - which includes: ¾ Electrovalve for pressure control ¾ Oil separator ¾ Pressure gauge - scale 1-30 bars - and cut-off valve ¾ Heat exchanger ¾ Flow line cut-off valve ¾ Filter drier ¾ Two-way solenoid valve ¾ Sight glass and moisture indicator on the compression phase ¾ Automatic expansion valve ¾ Sight glass and moisture indicator on the expansion phase ¾ Finned evaporator (in the freezer) SUCTION LINES - which includes: ¾ Sight glass ¾ Cut-off valve ¾ Heat exchanger ¾ Pressure gauge scale 1-10 bars and cut-off valve FREEZER A freezer is assembled on the upper part of the panel. The freezer is lagged by foamed polyurethane resins having high insulation degree and is fitted with a double glass window. Inside the freezer there are the finned evaporators and the temperature sensitive bulbs for the thermostats - one for each systems - and for the thermometer recording the temperature in the freezer. The respective thermometer and temperature control thermostats are mounted on the panel at side of the freezer.
CONTROL PANEL The control panel of the plant is arranged below the freezer and includes: ¾ Main switch ¾ Automatic starting switch with warning lamp for the capillary tube system compressor ¾ Automatic starting switch with warning lamp for the A.E.V. system compressor ¾ Pre-selector switch for operation either with capillary tube system or A.E.V. system ¾ Ammeter for the compressor electrical input ¾ On-off switch for the inner lighting of the freezer. ¾ One digital thermometer with mobile bulb All tubes and fitting are marked with different colours to made easier, for educational purposes, the location of each system and the function of each part of the system. For a complete educational utilisation of the plant are available on request all the auxiliary devices, fittings and tools for the training of students, servicemen, and apprentices. TYPICAL EXPERIMENTS ¾ A simple refrigerator ¾ The reclamation system ¾ Charging system ¾ The capillary tube system ¾ Automatic expansion valve ¾ The compressor ¾ Control system ¾ Trouble shooting the hermetic compressor ¾ Evacuating a system and pumping a vacuum ¾ Solenoid control ¾ The heat exchanger. ¾ Plotting of the thermodynamic cycle by means of a mobile bulb thermometer.
