B1180 – COMPUTERCOMPUTER-ASSISTED LABORATORY FOR ELECTRONIC TRAINING

B1180 (right) connected to an experiment board (left), in the center is a CAL module

General: This system is the successful practical implementation of organization principles and teaching methods made possible by the developments reached in PC networking and distributed processing techniques. The system is a modular computer-assisted laboratory aimed to become the backbone structure of the Electronic Laboratory. It consists of a centralized Instructor Position, made of an IBM-compatible PC 486/PENTIUM and a number of student positions (up to 64) monitored, assisted and controlled by the master position. Each student enables his position to work by entering his pass code. He is then assigned a task to perform and is continuously assisted in developing it. The student is requested to enter at the keyboard of his terminal the result of each work step performed. In this way each student is continuously assisted and also monitored for the purpose of evaluating his performance. Many classes can share the same laboratory facilities. There is no constraints on how many students, in turn, can work at each terminal. The information on which job is carried on and how is being done are retained in each student’s personal file which can be

accessed from the instructors position at any time. The student’s terminal is a compact device (approx 260 x 300mm) with large display and keyboard. The microcomputer of the student’s terminal communicates bi-directional with the instructor’s position via a common data bus linking all the student’s positions. The data bus therefore has a simple structure, easy to install and maintain. The student’s terminal can work in network with the instructor’s position, as shown in fig.1 and also as a stand alone unit. The student’s terminal will be loaded at the beginning of the lab session with the teaching software related to the subject of the lesson and this will drive the student through the execution of the experiments. This is done by inserting a CAL module where the program is stored in EPROM. Together with the Computer-Assisted laboratory, Electron can supply a wide range of training aids (experiment boards) which are supported by teaching documentation compatible with the system. The boards are grouped in “Trainers” which reflect in their composition and characteristic the corresponding ones for “traditional teaching” described in the catalogues by Electron.

Ordering code: B1180 – One student position and accessories kit (Connection cables etc.) B1180-IP – Software for the Instructor Position

Optional: B1180-PC – Personal Computer for the instructors position

Note: When placing the order for the laboratory, the customer must to state the composition of the laboratory in terms of: – – Number of systems (1 Instructor Position + N student pos.) – Number of student positions (N) heading to each Instructor pos. – Number and types of series of experiment boards (trainers) The “CAL” modules are available by adding the suffix CAL to the experiment board code.
