B3520 – AUTOMATIC CONTROLS TRAINER

General: The trainer is a comprehensive series designed to provide extensive training in the field of Automatic and Process Control. The hardware modules are constructed of green by fiberglass panels, with white silkscreen printing which indicates component symbols and functional blocks. The modules have a basic size of 25,4cm in width and an height of 15 or 23cm, depending on the model. The trainer is supplied complete of accessories (connecting cables and plug-in cords), instruction manual for each module,

and, where applicable, with application software diskette.

Accessories supplied: A unique power supply has been created for this series of boards (factory code B4191), it has all the facilities necessary to perform the experiments during study sessions. – – – – –

LINEAR/NONLINEAR/NON-LINEAR PROCESS SIMULATOR (code B3510B3510-D): The B3510-D includes functional blocks, which may be used to study the simulated behavior of various types of linear and nonlinear processes, and the different control techniques involved in each situation. These circuits are: – – – – – –

PROCESS CONTROLLER (code B3510B3510-E): The B3510-E includes functional blocks, which may be used to study and simulate, amongst others, the behavior of P, I, D control systems involved in various situations. This module is a general tool with the trainer. In particular, when used with the Process Simulator above it allows practical investigation of the theoretical and fundamental aspects of automatic controls. This process controller includes: – –

DC reference generator. Signal generator, square wave/triangle, frequency-adjustable, usable both as a variable reference or to impress controlled disturbances to the system under test. PID controller, also configurable as P, PI, PD controller, as well as ON/OFF controller with adjustable hysteresis.

OVEN TEMPERATURE CONTROL (code B3510B3510-A): The B3510-A board is equipped with four different types of commonly used temperature sensors (J-TC, NTC, PTC, Bimetallic switch). Automatic control applications may be simulated by interfacing this module with others in the B35 series, for example the B3510-Z PC interface board. The B3510-A module comes complete with a connection cable kit and extensive instructions manual.

DC MOTOR SPEEDCONTROL (code B3510 B3510510-G): The B3510-G module incorporates all the sub-systems necessary for the study of DC motor speed control in both open and closed-loop setups. The module has two small DC motors ganged together. One is used as the drive motor and the other as a tachometric feedback generator. A slot-type optical feedback sensor is also mechanically ganged to a DC motor. SERVO POTENTIOMETER SYSTEM (Code B3510B3510-J): This module includes a geared DC motor (approx. 1 revolution per second), which operates a screw-driven mechanism, ganged to the slide of a linear potentiometer. A second linear potentiometer allows the setting the reference position. This setup enables the student to study the benefits and limitations of a closed-loop position control in automatic systems.

LIGHT CONTROL MODULE (code B3510B3510-C): The B3510-C is a comprehensive module which allows the study of the most common types of light sensors and control circuits. It is sub-divided into clearly identifiable areas to facilitate its use. It includes a light source (incandescent lamp) and three different types of sensor (photo-resistance, photodiode, phototransistor). Each one is equipped with its own interface circuit, to experiment open and closed loop systems in an automatic control setup.

FLOW CONTROL MODULE(code B3510B3510-M) This module includes one of the most commonly used flow sensors, the Rotary vane-type flow meter. The B3510-M is conceived to allow the student to study and gain experience in the use and limitations of these devices. The module also has a variable-speed fan mounted into a duct where the flow sensor is mounted.

A/D AND D/A BOARD FOR PCPC-BASED CONTROL (code B3510B3510-Z): The trainer is used in conjunction with a PC, and creates an intelligent interface to the experiment modules, for the purpose of collecting data, pre-setting analog and digital outputs and sampling input terminals. It can also be used as a general-purpose microcomputer system to experiment software developed for automated systems. Microcomputer unit is based around a CMOS microprocessor of the Z80 family. The study topics allowed by this trainer range from the practical investigation of the fundamentals of Automatic Control Theory to practical sample application of great interest.
