GENERAL: Electric control board for the automatic running of the Units. ¾ The control board is of cabinet type with front door and simply rests on the floor, with access for cables in the lower portion. ¾ Service cables connection is made by means of fast connectors. ¾ Engines have a proper instrument panel on board and the cabinet with the generator units control can be opportunely positioned in order to fit any particular laboratory arrangement. The cabinet is divided into three parts. ¾ The higher is divided in two sections and include the electric control, measuring instruments and protection for each generator unit. ¾ The middle section is dedicated to the devices for parallel control and managing of each unit. ¾ The lower is for The starting of system is made manually and subsequently are connected all the devices for protection, control and parallel run of the units. System for operation, control, and manage of the generator units These panels include the lines entry from the generators, the power circuits, controls and protection for each group, and their proper control instruments. ¾ Lines entry from the generator: it includes the main automatic switch for each unit, with magneto-thermic protection and the generator isolating switch. ¾ Power circuit: it includes the electromagnetic switch for parallel operation with pertinent manual and automatic controls. ¾ Protection for each unit: it includes the controls and protection for the engines and for the generators
GENERATOR PROTECTIONS ¾ Energy reverse: it operates when the system is in parallel operation ¾ Maximum load: it can be set from 50% up to 120% with maximum load, with alarm and request of parallel of the other unit. ¾ Overload: continuous over 110% with automatic switch open. ¾ Short circuit: it operates by means of the automatic switch open with magnetic release for current from 3 to 6 In. The system is provided with timers for transient cover and warning lights for the switch position. ENGINE PROTECTION Each group panel is provided with controls, checkover and protection for each engine and in particular: ¾ Starting and services connection key switch ¾ Stop push button ¾ Battery charger warning light ¾ Automatic engine protection for: ¾ Low oil pressure ¾ Engine high temperature ¾ Over speed. ¾ In case of every faults or alarms, there is the automatic stop of the pertinent unit, with the consequent: ¾ Parallel operation release ¾ Stop of the unit ¾ Optical and acoustic alarm up to the operator attendance. A low fuel level alarm is included in order to provide the refuelling before the stop of a unit

INSTRUMENT SYSTEM The control instruments for the generators includes a complete monitoring system for the energy produced: ¾ Voltmeter with change-over switches for line voltage and phase voltage. ¾ Frequency meter with expanded scale dial. ¾ N°. 3 Ammeters. ¾ 3 phases kilowatt meter with double scale (positive and negative). ¾ Hour-meter. SECTION FOR PARALLEL OPERATION In this panel are included all the instruments, controls and devices for the automatic parallel operation of the two units, change over switches for control and selection of the units, push buttons for parallel operations and the controls for the speed governor. AUTOMATIC PARALLEL CONTROLS ¾ Synchronising coupler: this device is connected during the operations to put in parallel the second unit when the first have reached the rated speed. It operates in order to set the second unit at the same speed of the first, by means of the automatic controls on the speed governor of the engine injection pump. When the unit have reached the rated speed, with small regulations, the system provides to reach the phase coincidence, and after, it turns on the parallel magnetic switch. Pertinent warning lights and regulators allow a constant monitoring of the parallel operations. Faults and defects are signalled by alarms and warning lights. ¾
CONTROL INSTRUMENTS It includes: ¾ Zero voltmeter ¾ Synchronising warning lights ¾ Change over switch for parallel devices. WORKING OF THE GENERATOR SET The manual switch of the generator set allows the following working conditions: ¾ Single: only one generator unit is selected for working, excluding the other (condition used for maintenance or low load) ¾ Automatic parallel: the parallel operation of the two units is made completely in automatic mode. The starting of the parallel set operations is made manually by the operators and in accordance to load requirement. ¾ Manual parallel: the parallel set operations are completely manual, including the synchronising coupling and load dispatch. The generator set is mounted with a unit selector in order to choose the sequence for running of each unit. MAIN UTILISATION AND LOAD DISTRIBUTION PANELS This section includes the main connection and control instruments for the supply of the energy produced to the utilisation and to the distribution panels. It includes: ¾ Voltmeter with change owner switch ¾ Frequency meter ¾ N°.3 Ammeters ¾ N°.4 switches 40A with warning light ¾ N°.16 switches 10A with warning light ¾ Terminal block.
Load dispatcher: it is connected when the synchronising coupler has set the parallel operation and it is disengaged. By means of a wattmeter, it operates on the engines speed governors in order maintain a constant power output shared between the two units. The load dispatcher works also to maintain a constant rated frequency in accordance to the load conditions by means of the engine speed governors.
