home & away streams Home & Away streams have been developed to provide students with placement experience ‘Away’ through the year that complements time spent at ‘Home’ in college. Our unique partnership programme allows students to bring a specialist focus to the core theological content each week, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
H&A: Theology & Performing Arts Combining with PivotPoint, an Oxfordshire-based professional theatre training company, KTC is offering a uniquely blended stream of Theology and Performing Arts.
Mondays to Thursdays are spent in college and Fridays with a partner organisation, along with a three week extended placement.
PivotPoint’s model is based on the classic ‘theatre apprenticeship’, taking on people who show potential, developing them through professional training giving them experience in a theatre context alongside professional actors and performers. It is a ‘whole-person’ approach, developing skill, character, spiritual integrity and understanding by coupling theology with performing arts.
These streams offer practical work experience and the opportunity to gain valuable insight into areas of Christian work and ministry (not validated).
This placement is suited to those who want a taste of the performing arts or who want to go deeper than their current level of training.
We have linked with several organisations to bring expertise in the performing arts, campaigning for justice and supporting the displaced, and are looking for more partnership opportunities for our students.
You will have one full day a week of professional training (one-to-one and small groups) in theatre arts, gaining experience in the life of a performing company. We will also give you personal development mentoring and coaching to encourage you to discover your potential and calling.
H&A: Theology & Justice This stream will run in partnership with the SPEAK Network, a prayer and campaigning network with members based in universities, towns and cities across the UK. SPEAK aims to position and equip students and young adults to bring spiritual, social, economic, political and environmental transformation – to see God’s Kingdom established in all its different facets. Participating in this stream will give you the opportunity to receive training and gain experience in a grass roots NGO by working with SPEAK one day a week. You will follow the theme of God’s justice through the Bible, church history and contemporary Christianity in our core theological content, connecting it with current issues met on placement.
KING’S THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE
H&A: Theology & the Displaced We are partnering with Refugee Support Network (RSN) to offer a stream focussed on combining theological study with practical engagement with those on the margins of society. Based in northwest London, RSN specialises in supporting young people affected by displacement and crisis to overcome the barriers that prevent them from accessing, remaining and progressing in education. Through educational mentoring, workshops and direct support combined with advocacy and consultancy work, RSN aims to equip those they engage with to realise their potential and build a brighter future, whether in the UK or elsewhere.

KING’S
live reflectively THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE
KTC is an accredited theological college based in Oxford and part of the Salt & Light network of churches. We run 10 month courses that help you connect your faith with the real world. Our courses are an immersive experience in both Word and Spirit in a passionate worshipping community that provides in-depth character formation and tools for leadership and coaching in effective mission and hands-on community engagement. We want to train missional theologians – Christians equipped to think theologically, live reflectively and who will make a difference in the world by being fully engaged in church planting, missional communities and transforming society.
TRANSFORMING
think theologically
Mark Mumford | UK Team Leader, Salt and Light Ministries “KTC sits at the heart of our training strategy for 2020 and I thoroughly recommend taking a year to get theologically equipped and have your character shaped to fully play your part in God’s plans.”
N.T Wright “I am thrilled to hear all that’s going on at King’s. If we are going to be authentic and indeed properly scriptural, we need to take time to consider the biblical story within which we are privileged to participate.”
Sally Treloar, 2009-10 “What an amazing privilege to take a year out to study the Bible, to learn new study skills that will last me a life time, as well as fun, adventure, travelling and most of all the amazing transforming power of God.”
Joseph Edwards, 2008-9 “Before KTC I believed that solitary study was the best way to engage with the Scriptures, but now, as a result of being encouraged to learn in community, I never want to read the Bible on my own again!”
Kim Gribbon , 2010-11 “My year at KTC has helped me move beyond past failures and lifted my eyes to what the future might hold in a life permeated by the transforming presence of God. I have had an amazing, hope-filled year!”
Melissa Peters, 2010-11 “This year has enriched my view of the big story of the Bible and how God includes us in his unfolding plans in the world. I have been challenged and grown in areas where fear was holding me back and rediscovered my adventurousness!”
Andrew Eley, 2010-11
“This has been a great year - enlightening, challenging, encouraging, releasing, informative, fun, equipping, provoking, confidence giving and more! I am glad that aged 55 years I joined the KTC community to prepare me for the next stage of my journey with God.”
