The apostle Paul wrote, Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
TRAINING: WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?
These last few years have been very exciting, as God has shown us his 2020vision for our UK family of churches. But as we all know, stating the vision is the easy bit, we must also ‘put our money where our mouth is’! For 2020vision that means allowing God to reshape us, our churches and our priorities. A big part of this is training. We need to get our training right in order to help people prepare to participate in God’s vision for them and for our churches. Ephesians 4 talks about Christ sending leaders to help with the great task of “preparing God’s people for works of service.” As someone once said, “If we keep doing what we’ve always done we’ll keep getting what we’ve always got!” Without fresh training strategies we are not likely to see the change of culture and priority that God is calling us to. We want to prepare Christan leaders for all spheres of life – church, mission teams, community initiatives, workplaces and families. Leaders that lead in daily life and leaders that transform our whole nation. I want to ask you: will you join us in preparing to serve God in our 2020vision? Will you engage with training, at an appropriate level, to move you forward in God’s purposes?

LEVEL 1 TRAINING PURPOSE Level 1 training identifies and invests into emerging leaders, as well as training people for specific roles in church and daily life. It produces people who are self-aware and growing, with a broad biblical understanding.
PROCESS Level 1 training is open to anyone who is a part of one of our local churches, and offers an all-round training, usually containing personal development, a biblical big picture and initial leadership and ministry training.
PARTNERSHIP Level 1 training will be delivered through our larger churches and regions, for example through discipleship courses, mentoring and year teams. www.saltlight.org/uktraining
Church leaders: you can access course resources via the website and regional teams will offer consultancy and help to get you going!
Run in such as to get t
h a way the prize
LEVEL 2 TRAINING PURPOSE Level 2 training will produce leaders that are competent in skills, literate in theology and rounded in character. They will be reliable, spiritual and entrepreneurial. They will be ready to lead churches, plants, and missional teams, as well as taking their place in family, community and marketplace life.
PROCESS Building on Level 1, Level 2 training is not a sausage machine, but rather presents participants with a number of opportunities to learn, taking responsibility for their own learning. Learning opportunities are a springboard for a life of learning, not the final word on a particular topic.
PARTNERSHIP Level 2 training will blend the best of local opportunity, mentoring and community, with regional leadership development and national training in theology.
LEVE leaders need both leadership and theology training

OUR TRAINING MODEL
As we have talked together about training, we have found ourselves talking about 2 particular aspects:
THREE C’S
Robust training must include three vital elements:
CONTENT
(our theology)
CHARACTER (our person)
COMPETENCE
(our leadership and ministry)
FOUR LEVELS
Training in a process, from immaturity to maturity. For the sake of clarity across our family we have started talking about 4 levels of training:
BASE LEVEL TRAINING the daily task of local churches as we prepare all of God’s people for works of service.
LEVEL 1 training, creating contexts where we can identify and nuture ‘Level 1’ emerging leadership.
LEVEL 2 training, developing mature ‘Level 2’ leadership, ready to serve the call of God in various spheres. LEVEL 3 leaders are specialist and equipping leaders
(often called Ephesians 4 leaders) who training and equip God’s people.
LEVEL 3 LEVEL 2 LEVEL 1 BASE LEVEL TRAINING
