As the school begins and the summer sun starts to fade, we reflect on the work completed in 2018-19 as part of our Research and Design process and begin to set the stage for 2019-20. The first stop on our summer travels was a whole-school Learning Summit designed to allow Faculty and Staff at Saltus the opportunity to share what they have learned through the process. Already, the faculty have embarked on a new framework for an inclusive and student lead curriculum for the next academic year.
At the heart of all progress is the student, but we were reminded recently at our Founder’s Day Celebrations by the respected educator and presenter, Dr. Vernee Butterfield, that the strength and diversity of our team and leadership at Saltus creates the foundation on which to build. That is why I am pleased to share with you the school’s Diversity and Inclusion Statement which was approved by our Board of Trustees in April 2019. Saltus is committed to establishing a safe and inclusive, equitable and welcoming environment in which all members of the community are respected and valued and can contribute to and participate in the life of the school. We value intellectual curiosity, difference and believe that growth and learning can only come from interaction among people with different experiences and worldviews.
