OrthTeam Centre patient Jean Ellis, 72, decided to self-fund for surgery with Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon Mr John Leach due to being in so much pain that she became a prisoner in her own home. Jean explains: “A spinal disc had protruded and was pressing on my sciatic nerve, causing severe back and leg pain. It became too much to bear; I couldn’t go out of the house and was unable to drive.

“I wanted to start living my life again and didn’t want to wait months on end for treatment. I decided to go private and was lucky enough to be able to afford to pay for my procedure. I was quickly seen by Mr Leach and even had surgery a week earlier than origi nally planned as I was in agony.

“I’m delighted to say that my procedure was a success and I’m now back doing the things I love, like going for long walks. My advice to anyone who is suffering in pain is that if you can self-fund for treatment, do it – you won’t look back!”
