A Champagne welcome greeted us as we walked in to Brown’s Hotel, situated in the heart of Mayfair and steeped in history. This is one of the capital’s most historic hotels, having opened its doors in 1837 and welcomed many distinguished guests, including royalty. Queen Victoria and Elizabeth II have taken afternoon tea here and the late Duke of Edinburgh and HRH Prince Charles attended notable dinners. It seems only fitting for Brown’s to introduce an experience that honours its royals and allows guests to delve deep into its past and present. This fivestar establishment was the location where Alexander Graham Bell made the first-ever UK phone call, President Roosevelt stayed on his honeymoon, and both Agatha Christie and Rudyard Kipling were so inspired that they penned many of their novels whilst staying here.

Brown’s Hotel personifies the refined sophistication of modern British luxury. Each room and suite is individually decorated and many feature antiques and contemporary artworks, creating an elegant and fashionable air. The Donovan Bar and Beck at Brown’s celebrate photography, art and Italian cuisine, whilst The English Tea Room offers an awardwinning, quintessential English experience. A luxurious spa and state-of-the-art gymnasium offer a discreet sanctuary within this vibrant city.

The redesign of The Donovan Bar is the work of acclaimed interior designer Inge Moore, who has collaborated with Olga Polizzi, Director of Design for Rocco Forte Hotels, to bring new levels of glamour to the space and to emphasise Terence Donovan’s reputation as one of the 20th Century’s most revered fashion photographers. Here, you’ll see the largest private collection of Donovan’s work in existence, including a photograph of Lady Forte herself. Brown’s boasts 115 luxurious guestrooms and suites.

Dine in Charlie’s – the menu celebrates British culinary heritage with creative, contemporary flair while embracing a bygone era of service. Overseen by Adam Byatt and led by acclaimed chefs Matthew Starling and Owain Atkinson, produce and its provenance and seasonality are of utmost importance and each dish comprises authentic ingredients personally sourced by the team from the highest quality suppliers across the world. From succulent Sunday roasts and traditional classics served on Brown’s sparkling silver trolley (the beef wellington is excellent) to tempting sharing plates and mouth-watering desserts, Charlie’s is the quintessential contemporary British restaurant in Mayfair. The Nutcracker at Charlie’s Charlie’s in collaboration with Black Rabbit Projects will set the scene for guests to watch the iconic story ‘The Nutcracker’ unfold whilst savouring a three-course festive feast. There will be two sittings, 5.30 pm – 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm – 10.30 pm on three evenings (28 November, 5 December, 19 December) and the storytelling will commence from the moment guests step through Charlie’s door.

Each diner will receive a secret dossier of clues explaining a mysterious disappearance and be urged to help the characters uncover the missing item’s whereabouts. Between interactions, the three-course set menu of winter-warming dishes will be served, featuring a starter of glazed beetroot and goats curd; Sutton Hoo chicken and onion squash served on chestnuts; and a gingerbread crème brûlée for dessert. With each course, a series of clues will be revealed within the table decorations and dishes, guiding guests on their festive journey and promising an evening of wonder and surprise.

The Nutcracker Experience is £98 including three course dinner + a welcome drink upon arrival for adults, free for children aged 0 – 3 years and £49 for children aged 4 – 12 years. Vegetarian and children’s menus are available upon request.

The Maggie’s on the Runway annual event raise’s funds for Maggie’s Manchester, a charity providing free support and information to people living with cancer. The event, which has taken place at the Concorde Conference Centre for a number of years, was made up of two separate experiences. During the day, the charity hosted an inspirational fashion show accompanied by an exquisite afternoon tea before the venue was transformed to deliver a glamourous gala dinner in the evening. Both events were headlined by the charity’s ambassador, Rick Astley, who performed alongside his full band in the evening.

Following the event, Margo Cornish, the event organiser, said: “We were so pleased with the organisation and quality of the service provided at our Maggie’s on the Runway events. It is no mean feat producing two large events back-to-back on the same day at the same venue, but the support we got from the team was excellent. Charlotte in particular provided great communication and customer service from start to finish. "I would also like to give a big shout out to the chef, who managed to create and deliver an excellent menu both in the afternoon and in the evening and with lots of compliments on the quality of the food and the service.”
