Zapateado of Xibalba for alto flute and percussion.
Hunahpu and Xbalanqué are challenged by the lords of the underworld to play ball in Xibalba. This chapter of the Popol Vuh has many interpretations and that can mean so many levels from the historical legend of the formative period of the prehistoric Maya-Quiche culture to a children's fable with giant and fantastic animals that a child can understand with fascination. This is a tap dance or dance, human and cosmic game, that has to do with the nine stages of the underworld.
This piece can be played either alone or as part of the Concerto for flute and percussion Tzolkín.
