Chamber Concerto
“... unprecedented tangents of the senses world ..." *
for percussions, flute, clarinet, and string quartet.
Inspired by the style "baroque-surrealist" of the Cuban writer José Lezama Lima*, I conceived of this concertant piece. The importance of the instruments is not to be soloists, but to be constitutive of a whole assembly formed of sound masses of different densities. The musical idea revolves around the Fields of Complementarity, in the rhythmic aspect, where an instrument is silent, is another who comes to stand to "fill the gap." In the harmonic aspect, Complementarity Fields are that the harmonic fields or registers which are untouched as " harmonics silences " are explored further on by masses of sound, instrumental textures in which the whole is more important than the parties. In the modal aspect (slow mouvement), a pedal note is to be illuminated or colored by the notes of different scales that comprise it. This piece was composed in Barcelona in 1984
