For a long time I was looking for a text to describe a city, any city, in its raw, stressful aspect, the infinity of human agglomerations with speed of modern world, in a word the contradiction of a city. Until I found the magnificent text by Oliverio Girondo. Fifty years ago (1942) he had written Testimonial, text as current as today, a poem full of images that are perfectly suited to the text I was looking for.
More than a set to music, this piece is a poetry in sound, the sprechgesang is used to color the speech. This piece is closer to the choral poetry regarding the recitation of the text, but departs from it in the sense that the talk is slightly colored by singing. Rhythmically, the game of voices unfold the text and its meaning through echoes and overlaps in different degrees.
