This weekend is one of my favourite weekends of the year. For a start it’s my birthday weekend, but it’s also the weekend when Premier League and Championship sides enter the FA Cup, which means some smaller sides get to take on the big boys. Smaller teams that knock bigger teams out are often referred to as giant killers. That reminds me of the most famous giant killer ever – David, the shepherd boy who killed Goliath. David was the youngest and least important member of his family, but he trusted God and with him on his side he did some amazing things – he even became king. You may be young, but you are important to God and he has great things in store for you. You won’t have to go slaying giants and you probably won’t become a king, but trust God, live your life his way and expect exciting things to happen.

ave you ever tried to work out the answer to the puzzling question, ‘Which came first? The chicken or the egg?’ There isn’t really a right or wrong answer, is there? Without a chicken there would be no egg, but chickens come from eggs! Jesus’ answer to the question, ‘What’s the most important out of God’s ten commandments (instructions) in the Bible?’ is a bit like the chicken and the egg question. Jesus said the most important instructions God gives are to love God and love others. Like the chicken and the egg, you can’t have one without the other. When we love God, we’ll start to love others. When we love others, it shows that we love God and follow his ways. Also, it’s really hard to love people
by Melita Day-Lewis
as we should without God’s help. Check out the ten commandments in Exodus 20:2–17. Every instruction can be summed up as loving God and loving others. For example, one of the commandments is ‘Do not tell lies about others’. God is truthful – he never lies. So, those who follow him will try not to tell lies too. Telling lies about others is unkind and hurtful. This instruction helps us to love others the way God wants us to. Not only that, it will protect our friendships and keep us from falling out with others. God’s instructions or commandments are brilliant! Doing our best to follow them will always help us to live better, healthier and happier lives.

What’s your favourite Bible verse and do you know it off by heart? If so, do you often repeat it to yourself? Reciting Scripture we’ve memorised is a great way of expressing how we feel – all our joy, hopes and concerns. It’s also a great reminder of God’s promises and enormous love for us. That’s why in Deuteronomy 18:11, we’re encouraged to place God’s word in our ‘hearts and minds’. So have a go at learning the Bible verses below… May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord smile down on you and show you his kindness. May the Lord answer your prayers and give you peace. Numbers 6:24–26 (Easy-to-Read Version)

Just Right! Did you know that God created you exactly the way he wants you to be? It isn’t always easy, but you should try to love yourself and all the different things about you that make you unique. No one is perfect – in fact, perfect is overrated! We all mess up sometimes and everyone has flaws – even grown-ups. That’s totally OK – you just have to do your best to look after yourself and others.
Everyone has different skills and talents – what are some of yours? You can write them down or draw them here.
What is Body Image? Body image is the way you feel about your body. This might be what you think or how you feel when you look in the mirror, or the way you picture yourself in your mind. Sometimes you might feel that you aren’t good enough and you feel sad about yourself. But it’s important not to compare yourself to other people. Some of you are tall, some are short. You might have straight hair, curly hair, wavy hair – or no hair at all! Life would be pretty boring if everyone looked the same, thought the same, dressed the same, talked the same… you get the picture! Be proud of who you are, what you look like and the amazing things that you can do!

Bible Bubble This week, we’re thinking about Ephesians 3:19, which says: ‘Christ’s love is greater than anyone can ever know, but I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with everything God has for you’ (Easy-to-Read Version).
Hopefully there are people in your life you love, and you know that they love you too. Even the person who loves you most in the world doesn’t love you as much as God does. The Kids Alive! team wants you to know how much God loves you. He even sent his son Jesus to die on a cross, so that the wrong things we do can be forgiven. When you know how much God loves you and accept him as your friend, he will be with you wherever you go.
Your Turn! Use this box to create your self-portrait. You can include some of the things about yourself that are amazing and wonderful, including the special things you can do and your favourite parts of yourself.
