PFind out on Netflix

icture this! It’s the middle of the night and you hear strange growling noises coming from your living room. So you creep towards the living room, shivers running down your spine – only to discover that your parents or carers have turned into monsters! Big, hairy monsters with sharp teeth and ferce claws!

That might sound absolutely crazy, but that’s exactly what Princess Ellian discovers in a flm called Spellbound! Princess Ellian is the daughter of the King and Queen of Lumbria and she lives an amazing life. She lives in a beautiful palace, goes on plenty of adventures with her family and gets to fy around the kingdom on the back of a giant bird!

However, Ellian’s life changes for ever when something terrible happens to her parents. Ellian discovers that her parents have been turned into giant, angry monsters! Not only have Ellian’s parents been turned into monsters, but Lumbria is now in danger.

So Ellian sets off on a quest with a fuffy little friend called Flink to try and save her parents. It’s an adventure that will take her through mountains, deserts and dark forests. On her mission to save her parents, Ellian will discover that although her parents don’t look or act like humans, they still love her just as much as they used to!

You can watch ‘Spellbound’ on Netflix from 22 November

Princess Ellian has quite a challenge on her hands! She’s got a kingdom to look after and she’s got to fnd a way to change her parents from monsters into humans again! That’s a lot for a teenage princess to take on! She probably feels pretty scared and alone.

I’ve never faced challenges like the ones facing Princess Ellian. However, there have been challenges that I’ve struggled with, such as helping people I love who are feeling really sad or unwell. These situations have left me feeling scared and alone at times too.

Thankfully, no matter what challenges we face, we have a God who will always be with us. In Joshua 1:9, God tells Joshua that he doesn’t need to be afraid because he will always be with him. It’s the same for us too – we are never really alone. God will be with us, no matter what challenges we have to face.

Jesus Welcomes Children

Greatest of All Time

I’m going to give you a few options. Have a think about which ones you think are better. Winter or summer? Pizza or burgers? Dogs or cats? Jude Bellingham or Taylor Swift?

What answers did you choose? Why don’t you ask your family or friends and see if they agree with you. We’re big Taylor Swift fans in our house, but we also love football, so that last one was particularly tough!

Have you ever heard someone call a person ‘GOAT’? It stands for Greatest of All Time and it’s often used when talking about athletes, musicians or other famous people who are considered the best at what they do. The term was frst used to describe Muhammad Ali, because he was considered the greatest boxer ever.

In this week’s Bible cartoon the disciples get into an argument about which of them is the ‘GOAT’. They want Jesus to tell them which of them is considered the greatest. However, Jesus’ answer wasn’t the one they were expecting – he said that the best people are like children. He used kids as an example of how the disciples should think and behave.

Read the comment to the right to find out what Jesus thinks about children

Later in the cartoon, Jesus also tells the disciples off for stopping children from coming to see him. It’s clear to me that Jesus believes children are the ‘GOAT’. He loves and values every one of you! So don’t let anyone make you feel like you’re too little to be important. Your feelings, thoughts and opinions are all important to Jesus – and they should be to everyone else in your life too.

Bumper Bible Breakdown

Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.

Psalms of Praise

Most people sing a few songs at church. That might seem odd if you’ve never been to church before. God is amazing, but why do churches need to turn their services into musicals?

Although the book of Psalms has plenty of sad songs, it’s packed full of songs that praise God too – especially the last six songs. These psalms show us that God is so fantastic and so utterly brilliant, that we should want to worship him. We should be so full of joy that we want to dance, sing and play instruments! We should want to show him how thankful we are for all he’s done for us.

The message of the book of Psalms is that everyone should praise God. We should want to praise him in the good times and the bad because he made us and he loves us. Plus, we should want to praise him because he sent Jesus!

Living a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Disability History Month

Do you know what a disability is? We all have things we fnd easy and things we fnd harder. But disabilities affect the mind or body and can make it more diffcult to do or be included in certain activities.

You might have a disability yourself or you might know someone who does. People with disabilities may need extra support to do things others take for granted, but we all share the same need for love, friendship, care, inclusion and understanding.

Treat Everyone Equally

Disability History Month (14 November– 20 December) is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of people with disabilities and talk about what we can do to include them more so we can all experience a full life. It’s also an opportunity to understand the struggles that many people experience today and have experienced throughout history because of a lack of understanding, acceptance, support and opportunity.

Different Disabilities

Sensory disabilities relate to the senses – a person who is blind or deaf has a sensory disability.

Physical disabilities affect someone physically, such as cerebral palsy – a lifelong condition affecting movement and co-ordination. Most physical disabilities happen because of age, illness or an accident that damages part of the body. Anyone can develop a physical disability.

Learning disabilities affect how someone learns. For example, people with Down syndrome have a learning disability and might need extra support to help them learn to read, write and solve different problems.

Developmental disabilities include autism – this might affect the way someone interacts and communicates with others and how they experience the world around them.

Invisible Disabilities

Invisible disabilities are not visible to others, but can make life more challenging. These disabilities might be related to someone’s mental health, like anxiety and depression. They also include dyslexia, which can make it harder to read.

Sometimes people wear a lanyard with sunfowers on to show they have a hidden disability. It’s a good way of showing people that they may need more help or understanding.

Disability Throughout History

Some people used to think having a disability was a punishment. However, the Bible makes it clear this is nonsense – check out John 9:1-3 to see what Jesus said about that!

There was a time when children with disabilities were separated from their friends and siblings and sent to different schools. Today some children might go to a special school because it has extra support, but most children with disabilities attend the same schools as everyone else. So there are lots of opportunities for people with and without disabilities to mix together and learn from each other.

Even today people with disabilities are not always included and treated equally. Many people with disabilities want to work but they’re not always supported properly in fnding and keeping a job. People with disabilities have a lot to offer, and with the right opportunities and support they can do amazing things.

Famous Figures with Disabilities

Stephen Hawking had motor neurone disease. Over time he became paralysed, but that didn’t stop him from being a superb scientist!

George Washington was the frst President of the United States of America – he also had dyslexia!

Frida Kahlo was a famous artist! She had physical disabilities that made it painful to move, so she painted some masterpieces from her bed.

Ideas to Include Everyone

Make an extra effort to include kids with disabilities in your games. If you’re not sure how they could join in, ask them or talk to a grown-up. It may mean you need to adapt the game or play a different one, so be creative in fnding ways for everyone to join in. Show kindness to everyone! People with disabilities are all different – some might need a lot of support, while others don’t. We all have different challenges so it’s important we don’t judge people but learn from them instead.

Be patient! It might take some kids with certain disabilities time to fgure things out and that’s OK!

Everyone is different so treat everyone with respect!

Running the Race

This International Moon Day Colouring from George, aged 10, made us feel as happy as George’s astronaut looks! We love how George has used felt-tip pens to make his colouring stand out – the red craters on the Moon look fantastic!

There was a special day for the kids at Balham Salvation Army recently. That’s because the morning service was a young people’s anniversary – that’s a Salvation Army service that’s all about celebrating children and young people. As well as receiving plenty of prizes, the kids learnt about running the race, which means faithfully following Jesus every day!

Cool Colourings

Check out this fab National Radio Day Colouring from Alice, aged 7. We were so impressed by how neatly Alice coloured in the Kids Alive! logo. Well done, Alice!

This goodun-ball-ievably Women’s FA Cup Final Colouring was sent to us by Phoebe, aged 9. We think Phoebe has given this player a really cool kit. Great job, Phoebe!

If you’d like to star in our reader profle section we’d love to hear from you! Get a grown-up to send us an email using the address in the purple box below. Then we’ll send you the forms to complete.
