THE WILD ROBOT IN CINEMAS NOW

the storm at the start of a new flm called The Wild Robot is a pretty horrendous one! As giant stormy waves crash onto the beach of a desert island, a giant robot called Rozzum 7134 wakes up. She can’t remember how she got to this island, but she does remember what her job is – to be a servant! So Rozzum 7134 heads off into the forest looking for someone to work for!

Deep in the forest, Rozzum 7134 discovers opossums, a beaver and even a nasty bear. However, none of these creatures want Rozzum 7134 to serve them. In fact, they’re absolutely terrifed of her. They think she’s a monster!

Then, after a terrible accident, Rozzum 7134 fnds a tiny goose egg in a nest. Suddenly it doesn’t matter to Rozzum 7134 that all the other animals want her to go away. She’s found her purpose! With the help of a cheeky fox called Fink, Rozzum 7134 plans to raise this baby goose (which is also called a gosling) until it’s ready to fy away!

Rozzum 7134 then gets a new name – Roz. Roz makes plenty of mistakes, but she learns how to be a brilliant mother. And it’s not long before Roz realises that although she was built to serve humans in a faraway city, this desert island is exactly where she belongs!

In The Wild Robot, Roz has to come to terms with the fact that things aren’t turning out how she expected. She’s in a situation she didn’t choose and that she’s not prepared for. It’s not an easy time, but eventually Roz discovers that the desert island is exactly where she’s meant to be.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve felt like Roz many times during my life. I’ve found myself in situations where I’m not sure how to act or where I don’t know what the best decision to make is.

This is when I turn to God and ask for his help. In Jeremiah 29:11 it tells us that God has a plan for all of us. God doesn’t promise us that everything will be perfect or easy, but if we talk to him he’ll help us fnd our way to exactly where we’re meant to be.

The Death of Lazarus

Emotions Like Jesus

Hello, kids! How are you feeling today as you read this? This summer, I went on a cinema trip with my children to watch the flm Inside Out 2. I loved it! If you haven’t seen it yet let me tell you some of the characters that live inside Riley’s head. You have Joy, Anger, Embarrassment, Disgust, Envy, Anxiety, Ennui (that means boredom in French), Fear and Sadness. These characters are all of Riley’s emotions.

Do you know what I really love about Jesus? I love it that he had the same emotions as you and me. In this week’s Bible cartoon we read about Martha and Mary. These sisters are feeling really sad about their brother Lazarus, because he was sick and dying. So the sisters send someone to tell Jesus. When Jesus fnally arrives, he fnds out that Lazarus has already been buried in a tomb. In fact, he’s been in there for four days! At this moment, the Bible tells us that Jesus cried. (Interesting fact – this is actually the shortest verse in the whole Bible!)

Thankfully the story doesn’t end there. If we read on we discover that Jesus asked for the stone in front of the tomb to be rolled away. Then he ordered Lazarus to come out – and guess what. He did! Although Lazarus was still wrapped in bandages, Jesus told people to remove them before letting Lazarus go on his way.

Read the comment on the right about Jesus sharing our emotions

How does it make you feel to know that Jesus shared human emotions too? It flls me with comfort to know that when I’m feeling upset, Jesus feels that with me too. So the next time you’re feeling sad, remember that Jesus knows exactly how you feel because he has the same emotions as you.

Bumper Bible Breakdown

Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.

What’s the worst day you’ve ever had? A guy called Job had plenty of absolutely terrible days, even worse than you could imagine!

At frst, Job had an amazing life. He loved God and God really looked after him. Then one day, the Devil went to talk to God. The Devil thought that Job only followed God because of all the good things that God had given Job! So the Devil was allowed to put Job through some really hard times. This was to prove that no matter what Job went through, he wouldn’t hate God.

Job lost everything he had. He became so sick that his skin became disgusting and was covered in maggots! His friends visited and said mean things to him. However, Job wouldn’t hate God. So God made Job healthy again and really looked after him. After everything he’d gone through, Job lived a long and happy life!

Optical illusions use colour, light or patterns to confuse our brains – that means the illusions look different to what is actually there.

Take a look at this pattern – do the three rings look like they’re revolving in different directions? They’re not moving at all, but our brains process light and dark areas at different speeds, which creates this illusion.

1. Ask a grown-up to help you peel the plantain and cut it up into small pieces.

3. Add all the other ingredients into the bowl except for the oil. Mix them together until you get a soft mixture (like a pancake but not as runny!).

Living a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Did you know that The Salvation Army publishes Kids Alive!? The Salvation Army also works in 134 countries! It looks different from place to place, but loving and serving God by loving and serving others is at the heart of what they do.

This week is International Development Week (19-25 October). So Hayley Still from The Salvation Army’s International Development UK team wants you to know how you can explore, celebrate and support The Salvation Army’s work tackling poverty and injustice around the world.

This ID Week, we are highlighting the difference that we can all make when we work together and support each other.

What is International Development Week?

International Development Week is about sharing what The Salvation Army is doing internationally. It’s a time to celebrate great examples of people working together to overcome poverty. It’s also a time to continue raising awareness about the issues of injustice – these are things that are keeping people from living life in all its fullness.

New Beginnings

The theme for ID Week this year is New Beginnings. New beginnings are a big part of The Salvation Army’s work around the world. As a Christian church and charity, The Salvation Army wants people to know Jesus and experience his life-changing love and the new beginning that brings.

The Salvation Army is involved in supporting and delivering community development projects in different countries. These projects include building toilets in schools, training farmers to boost their harvests and raising awareness about human traffcking. Through these projects, people’s lives can be changed for the better.

This ID Week, The Salvation Army are highlighting the difference that we can all make when we work together and support each other.

Meet Clinton

After his grandma died, Clinton left his village in Uganda and crossed the border to Kenya where he’d been promised work. Unfortunately, things did not go well. He shared his story.

‘A few years ago, I needed work and so was happy when my friend told me about a job in Kenya. I crossed the border and started working on a building site for 150 Kenyan shillings per day (about 80p). It was hard work and I struggled to pay for rent and food. One hot day, I took a break to get a drink of water. The manager angrily told me this was not allowed and chased me away. In the chase, I fell and broke my tooth.

‘I later found a different job tending cattle. I was promised money and meals for my work, but this turned out to be lies. I was sad, hungry and lonely. One day my boss became angry with me and poured boiling water on my arm. I ran to the neighbours for help. I called my parents and they contacted The Salvation Army’s anti-trafficking project who helped me return home.

‘After returning, I joined a group where we save money together. This helps us to start small businesses or pay for things that we need. After we meet, we always get together to play football. This means we avoid the things in the community that could get us into trouble. If we have any issue, we can talk to the group. We support one another as friends here… and share the truth about human trafficking so no one else has to experience it.’

Clinton has found that by sharing his experiences and working together with other people in his community, he can experience a new beginning. Being part of a caring community has transformed Clinton’s life and given him hope for a brighter future.

How Can You Take Part in ID Week?

Pray for people like Clinton, who are affected by human traffcking. You can also ask your parents or carers to submit a prayer of salvationist.org.uk/prayersofhope.

Fundraise for The Salvation Army’s Helping-Hand Appeal! Maybe you could make bracelets to sell or organise a sponsored event. For more information about Helping-Hand, check out salvationist.org.uk/helpinghand.
