Happy Easter!

Last Sunday was Palm Sunday when we celebrated Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and remembered the amazing reaction to his arrival. However, a lot happened in the story between Palm Sunday and Easter. In just one week Jesus taught lots of lessons; celebrated Passover at the Last Supper with his followers; prayed to his Father in Gethsemane; was betrayed by Judas and arrested; stood trial before the Roman governor Pilate; was sentenced to death and killed on a cross! So if you think you’ve had a tough week, imagine having to go through all that! Jesus’ death on Good Friday isn’t the end of the story, though. Just two days later the next part of God’s plan was put into action and on Easter Sunday Jesus was alive again! Incredible, huh? But that’s not the end of the story either! No, the story goes on and on as Jesus’ followers told people about him and the amazing things he did on Earth. And those people told more people, who told even more people. Eventually the news that Jesus’ death meant everyone could have a fresh start and a closer relationship with God spread all over the world. In fact, Jesus’ story was passed down from generation to generation until the good news reached you! That means you can enjoy a fresh start, join the story and share the good news of Jesus too. Now if that’s not something worth celebrating, we don’t know what is!

Happy Easter, everyone! That’s easy for me to say, but I really do hope you enjoy celebrating Easter – in spite of the strange times we’re living through. Talking of strange times, they don’t come much stranger than the events of the first Easter. Actually, I find it kind of helpful that Jesus and his followers lived through some weird stuff. It makes Jesus more real to me and reassures me that he actually gets how we sometimes struggle with tough stuff. Something else I find helpful about the craziness of the Easter story is that it gives us hope. Jesus didn’t stay in the tomb and his followers didn’t feel sad, afraid and alone for more than a couple of days. The current weirdness we’re living through isn’t permanent. There are better times ahead and with Jesus by our sides we can get through this together. Have a crackin’ Easter!

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT THE EXCITING NEWS THAT JESUS IS ALIVE!

Believe It? Share It!

H

When they got there they were surprised to see the stone had been rolled away and Jesus’ body gone. What Jesus said would happen actually happened! Death was defeated and Jesus was alive! What an amazing miracle! So amazing, not everyone believed it. Even Jesus’ disciples didn’t truly believe – not until they’d seen it for themselves. But once they had, they couldn’t wait to tell all their friends. We need to have faith and believe what Jesus tells us through the Bible. What happened during that first Easter is something to get excited about. Even more exciting is that Jesus died and rose again for you and me. This week, thank Jesus for what he did for us and remember the excitement of the women in the story. Jesus is alive! Now tell all your friends!

ave you ever heard someone say, ‘I’ll believe it when I see it!’? It’s the kind of thing people might say when someone else tells them something out of the ordinary is going to happen. For example, if you declared, ‘I’m going to keep my bedroom tidy for a whole month!’ your parents or guardians might respond with, ‘We’ll believe it when we see it!’ It’s easy to believe things that we’ve seen or that seem normal. It’s not so easy to believe things that are unusual or we’ve never seen happen. Even though Jesus told his followers that he would come back to life, they didn’t believe it. That’s why in this week’s cartoon Bible story we see the women heading to the tomb with jars of burial oils and preservatives for Jesus’ body – they didn’t believe.

EASTER FIT Write the words related to the Easter story into the correct spaces in the grid – we’ve written in some letters to help you – and an Easter message will appear in the light blue column.

Selected verses from

Psalm 51

The Bible book of Psalms is a collection of songs that help us to tell God how we’re feeling – whether we’re happy, excited, worried or sad. There are psalms praising and thanking God, asking for his help and reminding us that, no matter what, we can always trust him. So however you’re feeling, dig in! There’s sure to be a psalm that’s just right for you.

Have you ever done something that you weren’t proud of? Don’t worry, we all have! This psalm written by King David encourages us to own up to the mistakes we’ve made and try our best to be better by following God’s way for living. God loves you, he’s always ready to forgive you and he will help you to make the best choices in life.

God, be merciful to me because of your faithful love. Because of your great compassion, erase all the wrongs I have done. Scrub away my guilt. Wash me clean from my sin. I know I have done wrong. You are the one I have sinned against. Remove my sin and make me pure. Wash me until I am whiter than snow! God, create a pure heart in me, and make my spirit strong again. Don’t push me away or take your Holy Spirit from me. God, you will not turn away someone who comes with a humble heart and is willing to obey you. (Easy-to-Read Version)

Dear God,

Thank you for sending your son Jesus to die for me so that I may be forgiven for all the wrong things that I’ve done.

Amen.

Here are some gobsmacking facts about practically everything, to boggle your brain or wow your mates…

A strawberry isn’t actually a berry, but a watermelon is! The scientific definition of a berry is a plant that has three layers – an outer skin, a fleshy middle and seeds contained inside. That means that raspberries, strawberries and blackberries aren’t true berries because their seeds are on the outside. However, watermelon, bananas, grapes and even aubergines are technically berries. We find that berry interesting!

Learning through fun at home

ck Ja

Lots of you will be off school at the moment as most of them are shut to try to stop the spread of coronavirus. While you’re stuck at home you might be struggling to keep entertained. So we thought you might appreciate some ideas to keep yourself busy during this challenging time. They’re all easy to do at home and link in with the subjects you might have been learning at school. This week’s suggestions are Easter-themed for eggs-tra fun!

Science

Science can be seen all around us, especially in living things. Plants need water, carbon dioxide and sunlight to grow. You can observe how this happens by making yourself some crackin’ cress heads. You’ll also have some egg friends to keep you company. All you need are some eggshells, cress seeds, cotton wool, an egg cup and a felt-tip pen. If your family is struggling to get hold of eggs, try ordering them online or alternatively use a clean yoghurt pot instead of an eggshell. Here’s what you need to do.

1

Ask your parents or guardians to carefully take the top part off a couple of eggs and pour the eggs out into a bowl – you can scramble the eggs for a yummy lunch!

2

Rinse out the eggshells carefully. Decorate the shells by drawing faces on them with your felt-tip pen, then place them in an egg cup to dry.

3

Dip bits of cotton wool in water and place one inside each of your shells at the bottom.

5

Find a spot in your home that’s dry and gets lots of sunlight. A windowsill is perfect. Leave your egg friends there and check on them every day to see if they’ve started growing hair!

4

Sprinkle about one teaspoon of cress seeds into each shell.

Languages

Lots of you are probably learning a language at school. Languages are great for communicating with our friends all over the world. Cut out these cards, mix them up then try to match the French words to the things they represent. Once you’ve learnt what the words mean, you can also place them face down and play a game of pairs.

Religious Education

There’s no better time of the year to learn more about Jesus. Why don’t you design your own comic book strip like the ones that appear in KA! JAM every week? You could design one about the Easter story.
