IJesus is Alive! Happy Easter
t’s Easter Sunday tomorrow (20 April), which means that this issue is going to be packed full of features all about Easter! However, the Kids Alive! team have set ourselves a challenge. We love puns about Easter, but we used way too many in last year’s Easter issue. So this year, we’re not going to use any puns. None at all!
As much as we enjoy Easter-themed puns, we love Easter itself even more! Meeting up with family, going to church, eating way too much chocolate–what’s not to like about Easter? Easter really is amazing, but what makes it such a special time is that it’s all about Jesus! Easter is an opportunity to remember that Jesus died for us and to celebrate that he’s alive!
So when you’re enjoying your Easter eggs this year, make sure to remember that Easter is all about Jesus. And if you’ve got friends who don’t know what Easter is about, why not tell them about Jesus too? You could even show them the Bible cartoon on page four of this week’s issue – because the story of Jesus is definitely worth sharing!
There you go – we made it the whole way through this article without using any Easter puns! Didn’t we do eggs-cellently? Oops, that was a pun – and not a very bunny … we mean, funny one! Are we still making puns? Well, this is starting to feel a bit eggs-tra! Don’t worry if you don’t get all of these puns, though – someone can eggs-plain them to you! Anyway, hoppy … we mean, happy Easter!
Have you tucked into any delicious chocolate eggs yet?
Maybe the Easter Bunny has even left some for you to hunt for!
Do you know why we enjoy chocolate eggs at this time of year? People have used eggs to remind us of the Easter story for a long time. Eggs symbolise new life – because the baby chick hatches out of its shell.
The Easter story is all about new life too. Chocolate eggs can remind us of the tomb that Jesus was laid in after he was killed. When Jesus came back to life on Easter Sunday, he made it possible for all of us to start a new life with him as our friend.
It’s like a fresh start and it means we can be forgiven for the wrong things that we do. What a cracking thing to remember when you’re munching on your chocolate eggs this weekend. Happy Easter, everyone!

Easter Sunday
The Most Important Story
My grandad loves cars. He can spend hours talking about them! However, when he’s spent 35 minutes telling me all about how big the boot in a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454 is … well, I’ve got to be honest, I do wonder what his story has got to do with me!
As you read this week’s Bible cartoon, I wonder if you found yourself asking the same question – ‘What has this story got to do with me?’ The Easter story took place around 2,000 years ago. Its main characters are people who were alive way before your great-great-greatgreat-great grandparents. Yet the story of Easter is the most important story that you’ll ever hear. That’s because when Jesus died all those years ago, he actually died for you!
We’ve all done bad things in our lives – even if those bad things don’t seem so terrible to us, such as telling a lie to our parents or carers. However, the truth is that we deserve to be in trouble for all the bad things we do. But Jesus, who lived a perfect life, died to get the punishment that we deserved!
Read the comment on the right about how Jesus can save us
Not only did Jesus die, but he rose again! This proved that Jesus really was God, and that he really had made a way for us to be a part of God’s family. This was brilliant news for the disciples and it’s brilliant news for us too! What has the story of Easter got to do with you? Well, because Jesus died – and because Jesus is alive – you can join God’s family!
says Jacob Adams
Thank You, Jesus
The story of Easter shows us that Jesus has done so much for us! Use the space below to write a prayer to thank Jesus for everything he’s done for you.
Bumper Bible Breakdown
Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.
Whale of a Time
Have you ever heard the story about a man called Jonah who was swallowed by a whale? To be honest, we don’t know if it was a whale that swallowed Jonah –the Bible tells us it was a big fish. But Jonah did spend three days in a fish’s belly!
Jonah had been given a mission by God to go to an evil city called Nineveh. Instead, Jonah tried to run away … actually, he tried to row away because he hopped onto a boat! However, God wasn’t going to let Jonah escape. While Jonah was on his boat, God sent a massive storm.
To stop the storm, the sailors on the boat threw Jonah into the sea. That’s when God sent the giant fish to swallow him. Jonah realised that God had saved him and agreed to follow God again. So Jonah was spat out onto a beach, ready to continue his mission!

So here are a couple of random facts that you definitely (and by definitely, we mean don’t really) need to know.
If we were to tell you that some fish can walk on land, would you call us bananas? It’s actually true! Fish such as mudskippers, Northern snakeheads and walking catfish might look like any other fish you’d find in the ocean – except they can also travel on land. So if you ever see a fish walking on a beach, don’t get too freaked out!
Why did the Easter Bunny wear a hat?
Because it was having a bad hare day!
What do you call a mischievous Easter egg? A practical yolker!
What do you call a chicken that’s always bragging? An eggs-aggerator! What kind of bunny can’t hop? A chocolate bunny!
Starting at row 1, use the letters from the row above to make a new word in each row until you arrive at the base of the pyramid with a six-letter word. Clue: Christian springtime festival.

Living a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual
Have you heard of Stephen Lawrence before? Stephen was born in 1974. He had a loving family, and he was very talented at maths and art. Stephen was working hard at school, because one day he wanted to become an architect!
Then, on 22 April 1993, when Stephen was just 18 years old, he was killed by a group of white men! These men killed Stephen because of the colour of his skin. They wanted to hurt Stephen because he was black.
Stephen Lawrence Day Stephen’s Legacy
After Stephen’s death, the police started to investigate Stephen’s murder. However, a report in 1998 showed that they didn’t actually investigate it properly.
Stephen’s mum and dad fought to make sure that Stephen would get the justice that he deserved, and this opened up conversations all around the United Kingdom about tackling racism!
Remembering Stephen
All these years later, people around the UK take the time to remember Stephen on 22 April. This day now has a special name – Stephen Lawrence Day. Stephen Lawrence Day is organised by the Stephen Lawrence Foundation, and organisers of the day have three goals…
To take the time to think about Stephen’s life and the effect his death had.
To encourage people to stand up for what’s right.
To work towards a hopeful future.
What is Racism?
Stephen was the victim of something called racism. Racism is when someone is treated differently or in a way that isn’t fair, just because of the colour of their skin, or because of the place that they come from!
When someone is racist to another person, they’re ignoring that everyone is actually equal and that everyone deserves to be treated with respect! Racism really affects people who have experienced it. Someone who’s experienced racism might feel upset, lonely or threatened!
What Does Racism Look Like?
Someone might do something that’s obviously racist, such as calling someone mean names because of the colour of their skin, or acting violently towards them. However, racism isn’t always immediately obvious. At school, it might be not picking someone to join a team because of the colour of their skin, or making jokes about them.
Stand Up!
If Stephen Lawrence Day is about standing up for what’s right, then that definitely means standing up against racism and other forms of discrimination (which means treating people differently because of who they are, such as their race, gender or religion).
So how can you stand up for what’s right?
If you’ve experienced discrimination, or if you’ve seen someone being discriminated against, talk to a grown-up that you trust!
Challenge people you know if they say or do something that’s racist! Make it clear that this is something that’s never OK. If you see that your friends are doing something that’s racist, don’t just sit back – tell them it’s wrong!
If you have a friend that is experiencing discrimination, let them know that you support them! This could be spending time comforting them when they feel sad, or listening to them when they want to talk about what they’re going through.
Hope For Tomorrow
The Stephen Lawrence Foundation believes that one of the ways to make the world a better place is by working to give everyone amazing opportunities! They believe that everyone deserves to have a good education, and everyone should be able to get fab jobs if they work hard!
If you’re looking to be inspired, then you should check out a book written by Stephen’s brother, Stuart. Growing Up Black in Britain is a book that looks at seven different black people who grew up to do fab things! To find out more, head to stuartalawrence.co.uk and stephenlawrenceday.org.
