ESSENTIAL TRAINING
This training is suitable for Corps Officers and Managers CIEH Level 2 Award Health and Safety in the Workplace is an ofqual accredited course, designed to ensure employees are aware of their own safety, the safety of customers, contractors, volunteers, other employees and the public, within their workplace Note: Officers/managers are responsible overall for health and safety in their centres. Therefore they need some knowledge of health and safety to do this effectively. Where a manager/officer hasn't had any training we would strongly recommend they undertake this course as without it their responsibilities are unknown. Exam: Multiple Choice style

RAMP (Risk Assessment Management Plan ) Safeguarding Unit (THQ)
ESSENTIAL TRAINING
This training is suitable for Corps Officers and Centre Managers This course is designed to lead COs and Centre Managers through the process of risk assessing a potential employee or volunteer with a criminal record. From the risk assessment the course looks at how to devise management plans. In addition, the course is also useful for a Corps Officer to consider the management plan for use in other contexts, such as when a known sex offender wants to attend the corps Best practice requires all officers to attend, although it is understood that some positions makes this training more pertinent than others. This is a one day course led by the Safeguarding Unit at THQ.

Safe and Sound 3: Safe Church SISTAD
ESSENTIAL TRAINING
This training is for all Corps Officers, and is mandatory for Salvation Army employed children’s and youth workers The course is also beneficial to all corps children’s and youth ministries workers The objectives of the course are to: Equip officers and personnel who, at any time, could be confronted with issues of abuse (both current and historic) during ministry.
This training is offered by SISTAD and details can be found in their brochure in the Personal & Professional section. Applications should be made on the Internal Courses form and processed via DHQ.

Children’s Leaders’ Training (YPSM & JSS pre-commissioning) Captain Graham Slader - DCO

The Children’s Leaders’ Training course is designed to equip prospective YPSM’s and JSSs. It comprises seven units; six from Core Skills and an additional Salvation Army Context unit. There is a total of 18 hours training which can be delivered through organised training sessions or one to one with a mentor. (A mentor is assigned regardless of training method) The requirements for YPSMs and JSSs differ as follows:
YPSMs • Completion of units A-D prior to commissioning (recommended for Asst. YPSMs) • Completion of units E-G following commissioning JSSs • Completion of units A,B,D and G prior to commissioning Training progress is recorded by the mentor/DCO and an Evidence Portfolio is created by the trainee to demonstrate their learning. Core Skills is the recognised training resource for children’s ministry in the UKI Territory. It contains six sessions, each designed to take two hours. Sessions can be delivered individually, or combined for a longer training event. h+ Making Good Sense of the Bible Facilitator Workshop 2nd May 2013 @ Colchester Citadel I day course – times to be confirmed As a response to a decline in biblical literacy amongst churchgoers The Bible Society has developed the h+ Making sense of the bible course. The programme is not about providing simple answers but enabling participants to grow in understanding, experience and confidence in how to interpret the bible. Facilitator training workshops take place over one day. Delegates receive their own multi – media facilitator’s pack. You’ll hear all you need to know about h+. Rosemary Archer - YMCA Retail Skills Certificate Retail Skills Diploma Customer Services Certificate The YMCA trainer for our area lives in Hatfield Peverel and conducts the training on site with the individuals concerned. There is no cost to The Salvation Army and those line managing students will not be heavily burdened with paperwork, but will be asked to participate in student reviews, which take place from time to time. Whilst DHQ are happy to assist in any way we can, initially it is suggested that you make direct contact with YMCA Training to discuss your individual requirements and check on the criteria that need to be taken into account. Who can apply? Anyone who undertakes a “front of house” role [e.g. centre receptionist, charity shop assistant] and who meets the following criteria:•
Aged 19+
•
Unemployed
•
Not already on a government scheme
•
Not in receipt of benefits (NB. Disability Allowance is permitted)
If an individual is in receipt of Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) this can be acceptable, providing that individual is not yet ready for work. YMCA will be able to give more detailed advice with regard to meeting the criteria requirements, during the application process
