Jesus Brings a Man Back to Life

Hi kids! This week’s Bible story is about Mary and Martha, two sisters whose brother, Lazarus, died. This made them very sad. They didn’t know that Jesus was planning to raise Lazarus from the dead. Jesus told His disciples, “In this world you will have trouble. But be encouraged! I have won the battle over the world” (John 16:33). If you’re having a tough time right now, remember the story of Lazarus. God is powerful and we can trust Him, no matter what happens.

The People Welcome Jesus to Jerusalem

Hi kids! Next Sunday is Easter, which means this week is Palm Sunday. You might be wondering why it’s called Palm Sunday. The reason is that before Jesus died on the cross, He came to the city of Jerusalem. When He entered the city, He was riding on a donkey. The people there were so excited to see Him, they cut branches off palm trees and laid them on the road for His donkey to walk on. They welcomed Jesus like they would have welcomed a king. Though Jesus did not have a kingdom on earth, He is the King of all creation. Jesus is often called the King of Kings. Yet He chose to come to earth and become a human, just like us. And then He chose to die for us, so that we could be saved. Wow! Let’s be like the people in Jerusalem that day and worship the King of Kings.

hat a happy day! Crowds of people were on their way to the temple in Jerusalem. Jesus and His friends were going to the temple, too. On the way, Jesus stopped. He said to His friends, “There is a little donkey in the town. Untie it and bring it to Me.”

Jesus climbed onto the donkey’s back and began riding to the city. Many other people were walking along 5 1 the road to Jerusalem. Some people were so happy to see Jesus that they spread their coats on the road. Other people cut branches from palm trees and laid them on the road for Jesus’ donkey to walk on. They were treating Jesus like a king!

Some people ran ahead to tell others, “Jesus is coming!” And even more people came to see Jesus. They said, “Hosanna! Hosanna!” (Hosanna means “Save us!”) Some of the Pharisees spoke to Jesus. “Teacher,” they said, “tell them to stop shouting!” “I tell you,” He replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” It was a wonderful day in Jerusalem! The people praised Jesus!

Jesus Is Alive!

Hi kids! Happy Easter! It’s the most amazing, most exciting day of the year. Do you know why? Because today we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. On Good Friday, we remembered how Jesus gave up His life for us by dying on the cross. The Bible tells us that, because of sin—the wrong things we do—we are separated from God. But because Jesus died for us, God has brought us back to Himself. We can be saved because Jesus lives (see Romans 5:10-11). That’s why Easter is so exciting! Have a wonderful day celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus.

esus came to earth to tell people about God, His Father. But not everyone wanted to listen to Jesus. Some people hated Him. They told lies about Him and had Him arrested. Then they nailed Jesus to a wooden cross. Jesus could have saved Himself but He didn’t. He knew He had to die so that everyone in the world could be saved. After Jesus died, He was buried in a tomb. A few days later, Mary and some other women went to visit His tomb. But when they got there, the tomb was empty! Then suddenly, an angel appeared. Hi kids! Last week, on Easter Sunday, we celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus. When Jesus first appeared to a group of His followers after His Resurrection, they were afraid. They thought He might be a ghost. Jesus proved He was alive because He had a physical body. But Thomas, one of Jesus’ followers, wasn’t with the group when Jesus appeared. When they told Thomas that Jesus was alive, he didn’t believe them. He had doubts. Thomas told them, “First I must see the nail marks in His hands. I must put my finger where the nails were. I must put my hand into His side. Only then will I believe” (John 20:25). A week later, Jesus appeared to His followers again. This time, Thomas was there. When he touched Jesus, he said, “My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28). Thomas’ doubts were gone. It’s OK to have doubts and questions, as Thomas did. Jesus wasn’t upset with Thomas for having doubts. Jesus held out His hands and answered Thomas’ questions. Whatever happens, remember that God is bigger than your questions. God loves each and every one of us— we never have to question that!
