Hi kids!

This week, Canadians have a special day to celebrate— Canada Day! Canada officially became a country on July 1, 1867. On Canada Day, we can celebrate how fortunate we are to live in a safe, peaceful country. We’re also lucky that we have a safe, peaceful God to protect and love us. In this issue of Just for Kids, you will learn a Bible verse about God’s grace and what it means to you. Your friend, Abby

Hi kids!

At church, you might have heard about junior soldiers—maybe you are one! In The Salvation Army, junior soldiers are kids who have chosen to love and obey God. They learn about God and the Bible through leaders at their church, and when they are ready, they sign a very important document called the “Junior Soldier Promise” and they are enrolled in a special ceremony. In this issue of Just for Kids, you will learn about the Junior Soldier Promise and what it means to be a junior soldier. If you are interested in becoming one yourself, talk to your corps officer or youth leader at church.

ISSUE27

The Junior Soldier Promise

Every junior soldier makes a promise that they will trust in God, pray and read their Bible. They promise to think, speak and act as a Christian, to not participate in harmful activities and to tell others about God’s amazing love. The junior soldier signs their Junior Soldier Promise and receives a special pin, declaring that they are a soldier of God.

Junior Soldier Spotlight: Luke Hoeft

Why

It’s fun worshipping God, there’s lots of learning about history and God and Jesus. I like the songs at church and the sermons. I learn a lot from people who know more about the Bible than me.

To me, being a junior soldier is a step closer to being with God. It is the beginning of my journey with God.

What

Luke Hoeft was enrolled as a junior soldier at Heritage Park Temple, Winnipeg, in 2022

I have thought about being a Salvation Army officer because I want to help people and let them know they have a place with God.

Shipwrecked!

Acts 27

When is the best time to buy a pirate ship?

When it’s on sail

Hi kids!

I have a funny story to tell you. One summer, while boating on a small lake with my family, the boat ran out of gas and the engine stopped!

At first, we were worried. We were stuck with no way to get back to the dock. Two family members had to swim to a nearby cottage and with the help of a friendly neighbour, we were up and running again! Our boat made it safely home.

In the Bible, there is a story about the Apostle Paul who was not so lucky. He was travelling around, spreading the good news about Jesus, when the boat he was on sank! Read this week’s story to find out what happened next.

What church do pirates attend? Find

The Apostle Paul, who once hated Christians, had been arrested for being a Christian. He was put on a ship to Rome so he could be tried in court. It was late fall. Paul tried to warn the captain that it might be stormy at sea. But the captain didn’t listen. Sure enough, once they set sail, a strong wind blew up. It carried them far out to sea where they were tossed and blown for two weeks.

Church Scavenger Hunt

Next time you are at church, search for the following items and people, and get to know your church!

Hi kids!

What is your favourite part about church? For me, it’s clapping along to worship songs, learning from sermons and catching up with friends after the service. We share something in common with the people at our churches—our love for Jesus.

In the Bible, there are plenty of stories about people gathering to learn about God and pray together. Even Jesus worshipped and gave sermons to groups (and sometimes very large crowds!) of people. When we all come together, our voices are louder and our faith is stronger. Your friend, Abby

Let us consider how we can stir up one another to love. Let us help one another to do good works. And let us not give up meeting together.... Instead, let us encourage one another with words of hope.

—Hebrews 10:24-25

Hi kids!

When I wake up in the morning, I make my bed. It is important to me that my room is clean and tidy. I spend a lot of time at my home, so I want to make sure that it is a comfortable and peaceful space to live.

As Christians, our home is not just the place where we live on earth, but our home is in heaven with God. And God makes sure that our heavenly home is clean and peaceful so that we will be happy there.

Have you ever wondered what heaven looks like? Read this week’s issue of Just for Kids to see what the Bible says about heaven. It must be a beautiful place!

ISSUE30

A New Heaven Revelation

In Revelation 21:3-5, which is from the very last book of the Bible, John recalls hearing a loud voice coming from a throne in heaven. It explained what happens in heaven. “Look! God will now live with the people. They will be His people,” the voice said. “God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death. And there will be no more sadness. There will be no more crying or pain. Things are no longer the way they used to be.”

Then, the voice in heaven said: “I am making everything new. You can trust these words. They are true.”
