Biblical Animals
Hi kids! Last summer, I went on a “goat walk” at a nearby farm. The farmers, who have more than two dozen goats, a few Icelandic horses and some alpacas, invite the community in for fun activities with the animals, including a long walk with a herd of goats. They all roamed together, stopping at trees, bushes and in fields of wildflowers to munch on anything they could. It was so much fun! I even got to hold a baby goat. It was very cute— Meet Goaty, one of the many goats I met on my goat walk. until it started chewing on my hair. Those goats brought me so much joy. To some people in other areas of the world, a simple goat can be a lifeline, providing families with milk, cheese and meat that they can eat or sell for money. Read this issue of Just for Kids to learn more about The Salvation Army’s Gifts of Hope program, which provides lifechanging gifts to people in other countries—including goats!

Goats are picky eaters and strong chewers. They have a thick upper lip that helps them sort through their food for the parts they want to eat. They are playful and social, living in groups called “herds.” Goats can sense emotion and enjoy spending time with people who are happy. Unlike humans, goats have rectangular pupils in their eyes, allowing them wider vision. But to look up and down, they have to move their necks!
More than 100 different species of animals are mentioned in the Bible. Can you find these ones?
