fter God created the world and all the plants and animals in it, He said, “Let Us make human beings so that they are like Us. Let them be responsible for all the creatures in the world—fish, birds, wild animals and all the creatures that walk the earth.” So God created human beings in His own image. He created them to be like Himself. He created them as male and female. God blessed them. He said to them, “Have lots of children. Fill the earth and look after it. And even though there are so many people out there, not a single one is exactly like you. We are all unique. What’s even more amazing is that God knows every one of us. He made each of us and loves us so much. In the Bible, King David thanks God for how He created him. He writes, “How You made me is amazing and wonderful. I praise You for that. What You have done is wonderful. I know that very well” (Psalm 139:14). Thank You, God, for creating us in Your image and loving us.

Hi kids! Even though Jesus was the Son of God, He spent time with people who were really unpopular. One of those people was Matthew. People looked at Matthew and saw a thief. Jesus looked at Matthew and saw a child of God. That’s how Jesus sees us, too. You are deeply loved and valued because God made you in His image. You are an amazing creation! That’s something wonderful to think about this weekend as we celebrate Thanksgiving with our families and friends. As you look around the dinner table, remember that every person there is a child of God. May God help all of us to see ourselves and others the way He sees us.

Matthew’s house. Many tax collectors and sinners—people who did not follow God’s commands—were eating with Him and His disciples. Some religious leaders were also there and they were not impressed with Jesus. They asked His disciples, “Why does He eat with tax collectors and sinners? Doesn’t He know they’re bad people?” Jesus heard them. So He said, “People who are healthy don’t need a doctor. Sick people do. I’m not here to get those who think they are right with God to follow Me. I have come to get sinners to follow Me.”

Hi kids! Fall is a great time for baking. When it’s cold outside, there’s nothing like freshly baked banana bread or, even better, chocolatechip cookies! I’m not the world’s best baker, but it’s not too hard to follow a recipe. A lot of yummy treats start with the same basic ingredients—flour, sugar, butter and eggs. It’s what you add to those things that makes each recipe unique. It’s like that with us, too. We’re all humans created in the image of God, but He has given each of us special abilities. No matter what those gifts are—whether you can dance, draw, bake or something else— God can use them for good works. Chocolate-Chip Cookie Recipe
Ingredients: 250 ml (1 cup) butter 250 ml (1 cup) brown sugar 125 ml (1/2 cup) white sugar 2 eggs 10 ml (2 tsp) vanilla 560 ml (21/4 cups) flour 5 ml (1 tsp) baking soda 500 ml (2 cups) chocolate chips Directions: Heat oven to 190 C (375 F). Mix butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla in a large bowl until fluffy. Stir in flour and baking soda. Add chocolate chips and mix it all together. Lay parchment paper on baking sheet. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the paper, 5 cm (2 inches) apart. Bake 10 to 12 minutes, or until lightly brown at the edges. *Remember to ask a grown-up for help. Enjoy!

This week, I cleaned out my closet. I know that doesn’t sound exciting, but now my house is tidy. And, even better, I have piles of stuff to give to The Salvation Army! It’s important to be grateful for what we have and to be generous and giving toward others. Donating clothes is just one way we can help people in need. In this issue of Just for Kids, you’ll read an inspiring story about an 11-year-old girl from Chatham, Ont., who organizes fundraisers every year to support The Salvation Army. It just goes to show that, no matter how old we are, we can make a difference. How can you help others this week?

leven-year-old Raelyn Drew, along with her parents and little brother, Johnathan, seven, has been making annual donations to The Salvation Army since 2017.
When Raelyn was six, she asked her parents if the family could give all of their money to the homeless. When her mom suggested they could perhaps do something else to help, Raelyn came up with the idea to have a lemonade stand to collect donations. I S SU

This past May, the family donated a vanload of food, as well as $250 in grocery store gift cards, to the Salvation Army food bank in Chatham, Ont.

e each have one body, but it has many parts. It is the same with Christ. Through His Spirit, we have become one body.
Suppose the foot says, “I am not a hand. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, how could it hear? If the whole body were an ear, how could it smell? Every part has a purpose, and God has placed each part in the body just as He wanted it to be.
