Samuel Lozeau believes that in our modern reality we need to design and analyze space beyond the physical and temporal boundaries to understand and enhance the quality of our cities. This vision brings him to think that physical interventions in the urban need to be handled from a design perspective through a multidisciplinary approach. Presently based in London, Samuel is a recent graduate from The Bartlett School of Architecture MArch in Urban Design. As a highly-motivated young professional, he is eager to start applying his knowledge and interest in Urban Design and the city in a working environment. Building on an academic background in Planning and construction oriented Architecture, Samuel also holds a diverse work experience in both public and private sectors in Montreal, Canada.

In these spaces it’s where we can open a discussion on the relation between sea and land and to bring a new vision to urban design by looking at the port landscape from a sea perspective anchored in a deep maritime knowledge. Exploring its main apparatus - the container - the project extrapolates from this archetype the notion of protocol, scale and measurement to apply it to the territory and the exchange between land and sea. SHIFTING LANDSCAPE The project is centered on the notion of measurements and scales. There is a need to re-negotiate the friction between the traumatic materiality and borders of the port landscape. As urban designers we can design on a larger architectural sense the forms and functions, while having a clever understanding of the relationship between the design and all the other components in which the architecture of the port revolves.

These attach to the existing landscape a space containing Hill composed of contaminated dredge material. The earth is containerized in geotextile depending on their degree of toxicity

RE-THINKING THE SECTOR MÉTRO LONGUEUIL - UNIVERSITÉ DE SHERBROOKE This project constitutes a synthesis of my final studio for my Bachelor in Urban Planning. It was part of the 2012 Annual exposition of the Build Environment Faculty of the University of Montreal. The metro Longueuil-Université de Sherbrooke sector and its surroundings have an important geographical position on the south shore near Downtown Montreal. This sector has been the subject of numerous studies and analysis and is part of the economic centres to be developed by the City of Longueuil. However, projects developed for this area have centred on a maximum densification within its boundaries, without any consideration to the scale game of its spatial context. In this project I wanted to take advantage of the existing potentials to propose bold redevelopment for this area while taking advantage of its accessibility, its activities and its spatial and architectural characteristics. I aspired to develop a dynamic environment, focusing on originality, proximity, diversity of forms and activities structured around a network of public spaces.

move forward by offering a new vision of mobility, based on responsive and ingenious ideas. Our communities are facing many urban and environmental imperatives and our duty is to think further than the mere notion of sustainable development in terms of our infrastructure.
My contribution : Strong participation in the concept development and project design. All the 3D conception and renderings.
Capitalizing on the potential for development and minimizing urban fractures, our concept is a boldly designed structure, energy self-sufficient, which is part of a new urban network for all forms of transport. Unveiling Montreal through a series of large openings, our cylindrical concept depicts the grand entrance to the city center by imaging the infinite droplets comprising the St. Lawrence River, which Montreal owes its existence.

CASE STUDY PLACE VILLE MARIE ESPLANADE This project was produced within an elective Landscape Architecture course and consisted in the analysis of the Place Ville Marie and its esplanade. We needed to understand and represent its composition but also review and critic its integration in the urban context. Place Ville Marie accounts for of the most powerful symbol of Montreal. The name itself evokes the history of the city I call home. This masterpiece of the modern sixties architecture was designed by renowned architect Henry N. Cobb et Leoh Ming Pei to whom we respectively owe the Louvre’s pyramid in Paris and the Bank of China in Honk Kong. The evolution of Place Ville Marie and the city of Montreal are largely intertwined. Constructed at the verge of the economic and social revolution, this steel and glass tower of 188 meters is the first modern skyscraper that will lead to the construction of a whole new downtown. The project included a revolutionary new underground central train station connected to the building by interior pedestrian commercial corridors.
