ELECTRIC CITY HIGH SCHOOL Anderson, SC Comprehensive Studio - Spring 2017
3
4 Electric City High School was a semester long comprehensive studio project that encompassed everything that I had learned during the course of my architectural education at Clemson University. The project was a reimagining of the current high school approach and mentality. It was located in downtown Anderson, SC and was a combination of repurposing existing buildings and new structures. This project was a partner project and involved developing not only the architectural design, but also the structural components, mechanical systems, and a detailed wall section exploration. This project was a honorable mention for the Harlan E. McClure Award, which is awarded annually to the most outstanding graduate student project at Clemson University based on its excellence in architectural design and overall comprehensive merit.

School Goals and Vision: ENGAGE: Scheduling “flex time throughout the day to encourage collaboration and planning of personal projects with real-life experiences EMPOWER: Creating a community of learners and critical thinkers that will transform into future entrepreneurs and leaders by focusing on the special needs of the individual student REACH: Encourage self-directed learning by developing student-teacher trust with high expectations and student driven mentorship INSPIRE: Outdoor and indoor classrooms with a building that offers a flexible learning environment that will keep students engage and motivated INQUIRY: Integrating subjects and different grade levels with PBL (project based learning tactics) that focus on community driver projects that focus on solving real-world problems in their local community

We wanted each of our maker-spaces to house the various grade levels and provide a place for each student to have their own space to work. Whether they are working on homework for their individual classes or on their projects, we want our students to feel like they have a sense of ownership and belonging in their maker-spaces.

REDEFINING A LANDSCAPE Barcelona, Spain Professor Toni Montes - Fall 2016
1 2 3
This studio project was located inside the Can Batllo community complex in Barcelona, Spain. In creating a new community center on this site, it was very important for me to mix the old architecture with the new so that the community still felt at home in the new construction. I also wanted my new intervention to build up and showcase the old building on the site by creating a landscape that leads you up to the existing building. In regards to the form development, I wanted the roof to be the defining piece of the intervention. The roof itself builds up to the existing structure by having it start lower and slowly rise with the various triangulated pieces.

PERMEABLE WALL Central, SC Professor David Franco - Spring 2016
1 2 3
The Permeable Wall was a semester long studio project based in Central, SC. The scope of project was to reimagine what the concept of the Walmart Superstore is through the use of the preexisting Walmart location in Central. Through this reimagining of the Walmart we were to include both commercial and residential programs for the site. I created a live / work community for the people of Central to help boost local economy as well as improve the sense of community at this specific location.

shaded gathering spaces large windows allow for ample sunlight During this project we were to consider constructability and HVAC options. I created stackable modules made of concrete in order to reduce the use of columns. I also used active and passive systems to increase air flow in the structures. The use of cross ventilation was a major factor in the ability to create ample air flow.
