Letter from... Â The President

Dear Circle K family, Ho Ho Ho! Happy Thanksgiving! Thanks for sticking around this long through finals and the struggles of life. I appreciate everyone who attended events this month from Fall Training Conference to Masquerade Ball! This letter is rather short this newsletter but has a friendly tip to remind you to stop the busy hustle and bustle of life and to appreciate those around you. This can be anywhere from thanking the stranger who opened the door for you to letting your parents/significant other know that you love them. Everyone needs a little bit more appreciation in their day and as they say "You give what you get". See ya later alligators,

Melissa Farlow

San Carlos Community Garden

PUMPKIN SMASH “Volunteering at the San Carlos Community Garden Pumpkin Smash was a great experience. I came thinking that people were just going to smash pumpkins, but no, there were other fun activities to do as well like building a toolbox, putting together a turkey craft, and painting a tile that will be displayed at the garden for everyone to see. There were also facts about gardening, a great group of people playing classic tunes, a pie eating and an egg toss contest. At the event, I helped the kids get started on painting their tile and also helped them along the way. It was cool seeing the creativity and ideas the kids have and wanted their tile to represent. While the kids were painting, the coordinator told me how the garden used to be an empty piece of land and that she and a couple people of the community got together and got funds to make use of the land and create a garden. Looking around it was great to see how a piece of land was turned into a garden that connected the community together to have a great time.”

MISSION TRAILS “The Saturday before Thanksgiving weekend I went on the Mission Trails hike with some cool people. I went with Sam, Victoria, Simi, Melissa, Patrick, Francis, Evelyn, Amanda and Alicia. It was a fairly warm day here in San Diego with clear blue skies. The first hike we did had a very steep incline. We wanted to go on this hike to view a portion of the trail labeled “Underworld”. At the top of the trail we passed several groups of rock climbers. At one point in the trail, we decided to turn around because the trail became unclear. The second trail we hiked went down into the underbrush and went along the San Diego River. Sadly, we could not find a crossing for the river but we did hear and see a small waterfall during the sojourn. Afterwards, we went to get yogurt from Yogurtland where I got free yogurt from Sam Pfau because she owed me yogurt for skipping class that week. Overall, it was a good hike because I got to get outside and use my legs to explore Mission Trails.”

Note from the Lieutenant Governor

Zach Manlapid

Hello! (It's me) This is Zach Manlapid, your current Paradise Lieutenant Governor, coming at you with a special message! Fall is winding down and (slowly) transitioning into Winter and with that comes a slew of finals, presentations, and projects. I understand that school is important and that's why we are all here, but don't forget to take care of yourself in the process! If you want to sleep, then make sure you somewhat sleep. If you want to eat, then eat! If you want to treat yourself, then you GO OUT THERE AND TREAT YO SELF~ This has been one crazy semester with Circle K, from the first GBM to New Member Install to FTC to M-Ball, and I just want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone that went out to anything! Circle K would be nothing without its members and everything this organization does, we do it with y'all in mind. We're already more than halfway done with the Circle K year so make sure you look forward to what is in store! And also, 'Tis the season of giving and family so make sure you let the people in your lives know how much you appreciate and love them. GOOD LUCK WITH FINALS AND I LOVE YOU ALL <3 -Zach Manlapid Paradise Lieutenant Governor

“Attending FTC was a commitment to an eight hour car ride that unexpectedly turned out to be quite fun. We sang, got to know each other, and took a wrong turn driving up into the dark mountains with dim headlights (shout out to Julia and Melissa for being amazing drivers!!). Finally arriving around nine, you could hear the cheers and feel the spirit of Circle K’ers from far down the pathway. FTC was a memorable experience of enriching workshops and building new friendships. I can now do the club’s pledge and tell people that they’re beautiful in sign language. However, if someone were to ask me what I enjoyed most about FTC, I would gratefully say, all the little moments I shared with the members of our home club, SDSU. FTC to me, is the laughter shared during the car rides, the unanticipated tears from learning more about each other, and the warmth of our members asking me how I was doing. I am proud and thankful for being a part of a club full of caring members. Despite the cold and long car ride, FTC was an irreplaceable experience that I look forward to attending the following year.” Written by Julie Tran

Children’s Initiative Conference

FALL TRAINING CONFERENCE: SONORA, CA November 6th-8th

“A starry night rooftop with a live band, delicious treats from Porto’s, a very lit dance floor, and the San Diego National Museum at your leisure for the whole night?! At first the idea of said event sounded like a dream night that I must have concocted during my 14-year-old hopeless romantic phase. But nope, the dream night was the wonderful 18th annual UCSD M-Ball. My personal experience that night was that it was one of the most lovely evenings I’ve ever experienced in my life. I got to spending the evening with my prince and love of my life, Matthew, and we enjoyed walking around the museum and enjoying the scene of things. The two most memorable parts of our evening were slow dancing to a cover of Etta James’ famous “At Last” and pretending it was just us on the starry night rooftop, and when my feet hurt too much he carried me from the second floor wedding style to the outside where we waited for our ride. My experience was very gushy and lovey, but overall M-Ball was a completely magical event I bet for many who attended. I give mad props to UCSD for pulling off such a romantic dream night any hopeless romantic could ask for.” Written by Jonah Faye Longares

Key 2 College “SDSU Circle K's 2nd Key 2 College occurred on November 21st! If you didn't know, Key 2 College is an event where we teach high school students the different aspects of college through workshops such as financial aid and study abroad. We learned a lot from our first Key 2 College, and this year we fixed our mistakes by advertising a lot earlier and individually reaching out to each school. We had about fifty high school students come to our event so it was a success! Also wanted to give a shoutout to all the workshop hosts and everyone else involved in making Key 2 College a success. I'm pretty happy with how the event turned and I hope that SDSU continues its new tradition of having its own Key 2 College.” written by Kevin Nhim
