Letter from

the Editor

Hi everybody!

October has gone by so fast!!! This month I started volunteering at Wilson Middle School and it’s taught me a lot about the type of teacher I’d hope to be one day and the type of person I want to be for others. And Thanksgiving is a little ways away but I’d like to appreciate the boys of Apartment E, my mentee Dorna, the Secret SamMitches fam, the Porter group, all of the contributors to this newsletter, my mom & dad, and my roommate Mitchell for being kind enough to stay up late with me and help me work on this newsletter. Hope you all have a great November! Please hit me up if you ever want to hangout! Love, Sam Pfau

Letter from... The President

Hi hi hi! Welcome back to SDSU Circle K! I’m Melissa Farlow, the President! Thanks to you 36 new members who paid dues since last time bringing this crazy club to 67 paid members! Remember to pay dues to Andrea Steele ($30 or $31)!!! I LOVE PAID MEMBERS!!! I’m about to say this at GBM but I’m stressing pretty hard due to my almost graduating life, not getting accepted to Teach for America and just lots of life things overall. Who knew adulting would be so difficult. BUT, the one thing I always know cheers me up is Circle K. Thanks to each and every one of you who comes out to meetings and events. You really make a difference in my life and the lives of others. I am very tired and want to sleep but need to stay awake so my sleeping schedule goes back to normal (thanks @daylight savings day). I almost fell asleep in class today (like doing that one eye open, one eye closed thing) but Dr. Mayes looked right into my soul so I had to open both my eyes. The absolute worst. Thanks for reading this little blurb! Peace out girl scout <3 Melissa Farlow

Kiwanis Spaghetti Appreciation Dinner

“The Kiwanis Spaghetti Appreciation Dinner took place on Friday, October 9th.

Every year, SDSU Circle K puts on a dinner for the Kiwanians because they do a lot for us, such as lowering the cost of district events like Fall Training Conference. My committee really pulled through, with Kevin Zinkofsky, Mitchell Nguyen, and Sam Pfau cooking delicious spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread. After dinner we all played some bingo, which everyone seemed to enjoy. However, I did not think about the process of bingo all the way through, and a game of blackout ended up taking forever because I kept pulling the same number. After bingo, we presented our gifts to the Kiwanians, which were personalized with a cute little design and each Kiwanian's name on it (Shoutout to Laiko and Tatiana for making them!). Overall, it was a great night and I am looking forward to next year's spaghetti dinner!” Written by Kevin Nhim

Crazy Kompetition for Infants: CKI South “This year, Crazy Kompetition for Infants South, was held on October 17th, 2015 in Stanton, CA. The annual event is hosted to unify the southern Divisions of the District in a tournament of games while raising money for the Pediatric Trauma Program. I originally was not going to attend, but ended up going on a last minute decision as a spectator! It was a great opportunity to see and meet people from other schools. Even though I was just watching, I was still able to cheer for all the SDSU teams and honestly preferred it, considering the heat. But despite the heat, from the rock-paper-scissors competitions to the relay races and jump rope portions, it was easy to see all the teams had a lot of fun playing. Although we did not place, SDSU Circle K had a wonderful time bonding with each other and reuniting with other friends across the District. Looking forward to next year’s already!” written by eileen vedar

New Member Retreat “I've never been camping before in my life, so I was about to experience wilderness 101. I learned how to set up a tent, thanks to Kevin and Patrick. I finally got to make a s’more at a camp site surrounded by trees and amazing people. One of the biggest highlights for me was the family reveal made by the awesome Julia. I was proudly placed into Masters of Disaster. After the joyous reveal of the six families we immediately battled against each other the best way possible, karaoke ripoff and calling each other out with hand gestures. Another activity that made the retreat more adventurous was the night hike with Kevin Nhim and DaChen. Let’s just say my first hiking experience was not the best, because Kevin and DaChen pulled a prank on us. They jumped out of a bush like savage animals and managed to frighten us. That night I realized the members were willing to risk their lives to go on the search for Kevin and DaChen. I’m grateful to be part of a club where they’re ready to take immediate action for an individual’s well being.” Written by aracely Valadez

New Member Installation --------------------------“New Member Install was an amazing experience filled with laughs, tears, and friendship (also food). New Member Install is an event to celebrate new and returning members of Circle K. The night included speeches from a variety of members, performances, and dinner. The food was great, the performances were spectacular, and the speeches struck the emotions across the scale. As a new member the atmosphere felt very inviting. Not once during the night did I feel like I was isolated, I felt like I belonged. I also felt a sense of excitement. I was (and still am) excited for what is in store for the club. Excited for service projects, fun-raising, socials, and friendship. I had a sense of being in a family, which was much welcomed since I was 450 plus miles away from my actual family. Speaking as a new member, I want to say thank you to everyone who welcomed us into your family and I hope that we make you proud. written by denny cao

Explore San diego

Explore San Diego: FAMILY COMPETITION

“Explore San Diego was the first family competition this year and probably one of my favorite events so far. We all squished together like sardines as we rode the trolley to Old Town where the first mission was given to each family. After we finished our first task, we hopped back onto the trolley towards Seaport Village where our second and final mission took place. When we completed our tasks we ate and socialized with our families. Before we left, Julia announced the placings of the competition… and guess what?! RUTHLESS ROSEBUDS WON! Although I admit winning is fun, being able to hang out with my family for the first time was the most rewarding part of this event. Seeing that everyone was having a good time and putting all their worries aside was truly gratifying. I cannot wait for the next family competition and encourage everyone to get to know their families because you never know how many great adventures you will have with them in the future!” written by victoria Romero

MEMBER HIGHLIGHTS Name: Tran Vu Nickname: Senpai Major: Criminal Justice Year: 4th What's your favorite part about Ratchet Generation 2.0? Being one of the OG founders of ĐŻG (by the way, back then, the crew's name "Ratchet Generation" started off as a joke, but it stuck), I'm really happy to see it grow to what it is today. ĐŻG gives me a chance to maintain my passion for dancing while somewhat integrating it into CKI (and now into other events). Even though the group has the initial foundation for K-pop choreography, it also has the foundation to be an open community for like-minded individuals who simply enjoy socializing or performing. With all of the warranted stress that comes along with managing dancers, the final results continue to provide me with a sense of appreciation and pride for taking part in this type of community.
