CHILDHOOD CANCER - SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENTS
Every year 250,000 children across the world get diagnosed with cancer and 90,000 of them are likely to die. Leukemia, cancers of the bone marrow and blood are the most common childhood cancers. They account for 30% of all cancers in children. The cause behind the childhood cancer is not known. Continued, unexplained weight loss Headaches, often with early morning vomiting Increased swelling or persistent pain in bones, joints, back, or legs Lump or mass, especially in the abdomen, neck, chest, pelvis, or armpits Development of excessive bruising, bleeding, or rash
Constant infections A whitish color behind the pupil, squint or redness in the eye, shrunken or swollen eye Nausea which persists or vomiting without nausea Constant tiredness or noticeable paleness Eye or vision changes which occur suddenly and persist Recurrent or persistent fevers of unknown origin TREATMENT The treatment of childhood cancer depends on several factors such as type and stage of cancer also the health of a child. Surgery Surgery is the removal of the tumor, either cancerous or non cancerous and surrounding tissue by the operation. Chemotherapy In chemotherapy drugs are used to destroy cancer cells, by stopping the cancer cells’ ability to grow and divide. Radiation Therapy Radiation therapy is the use of high-energy x-rays or other particles such as photons to destroy cancer cells. Immunotherapy Immunotherapy is biologic therapy designed to boost the body’s natural defenses to fight the cancer. Bone marrow transplant
Bone marrow that contains cancer is replaced by highly specialized cells, called hematopoietic stem cells. It also known as stem cell transplant, as stem cells in the blood are being transplanted. 
