How to reduce the cancer risk?

According to the NICPR (National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research) statistics, every year over 7 lakh new people are diagnosed with Cancer. Minor lifestyle changes can make a big difference. Say NO to Tobacco  Avoiding tobacco or decision to stop using tobacco is the first step towards cancer prevention.  Smoking has been linked to various types of cancer like cancer of the lung, mouth, throat, larynx, pancreas, bladder, cervix and kidney.  While chewing tobacco is linked to cancer of oral cavity and pancreas. Even the indirect exposure to secondhand smoke might increase the risk of lung cancer. Eat Healthy Diet  Healthy Diet can reduce the risk of cancer. Add fruits and vegetables and other foods like whole grain and beans in daily diet. Emphasis on planted foods and avoid high calories foods.  Researches suggest that eating large amounts of processed meat can increase the risk of certain types of cancer so limit the usage. Also drink alcohol and other beverages in moderation Get Vitamin D  To reduce the cancer risk spends 15 minutes in the sun light as we can get maximum vitamin D from sun light.


 People with low levels of vitamin D have a high risk of cancers of breast, colon, prostate, ovarian, and stomach, as well as osteoporosis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and high blood pressure.  Sun exposure should be in moderation because over exposure can cause skin cancer. Stay physically active  Body weight and obesity are directly linked with cancer.  Physical activities make a person fit and healthy. Healthy weight maintaining can reduce the risk of various types of cancer like cancer of breast, prostate, lung, colon and kidney cancer.  Spend at east 30 minutes in a day on any physical exercise like brisk walk, aerobic exercise, yoga or dancing. Regular medical check up  Regular check ups with doctor after 40 and screenings for various types of cancers such as cancer of the skin, colon, cervix and breast can help in identify the cancer on early stage and will also result into successful treatment.
