Editor’s Letter Dear Residents, local groups and advertisers, What a year it’s been! Although it has been good to see people enjoying the simple things in life; cooking, family time, walking, nature and in general consuming less and being a bit less “spoilt”. Family and friends have been such good support in our small meet ups, it’s one of the things that has really got me through these strange times. On New Years Eve I’m ditching the traditional “Ole Lands Eye” for “Hip Hip Horray”! Forthcoming Printed Editions Winter Edition Spring Edition Early Summer Edition Late Summer Edition Autumn Edition Christmas Edition

LOOSE PARISH COUNCIL (LPC) CLERK: Kim Owen

Holly Glade Pembroke Road Coxheath Maidstone ME17 4QJ Tel: 07855 000156 (Mon-Thurs 9am-5pm) website: www.loose-pc.gov.uk email: office@loose-pc.gov.uk

Loose Parish Council

In what continues to be a very difficult year for so many people, Loose Parish Council has been working extremely hard to help local residents, with various issues, which have arisen during the ongoing Covid-19 disruption. LPC has always been very mindful of its role in identifying risks, ensuring public health and safety, plus the welfare of the community. Whilst this has meant that, at times, some decisions have proved to be controversial, Parish Councillors are all volunteers from the local community, giving their time freely, for the benefit of residents.

Loose Parish Pavilion

The parish pavilion hall is gradually being reopened for existing regular hirers, given permission to operate and provided risk assessments, which meet with Government Covid-19 guidelines. Currently, these are primarily Slimming World and organised children’s groups. Due to the size of the hall, the Rule of Six, and the changing Covid situation, other groups and activities have not been able to restart and, as at mid-October, there are no plans to open the pavilion to nonregular hirers.

12

LPC Council & Committee Meetings

The Parish Council is continuing to hold monthly meetings electronically, via the Zoom platform. Some committee meetings are also taking place. Members of the public are welcome to participate in any council or committee meeting (there is an agenda item on all agendas specifically for this). If you would like to attend, please contact the Clerk for the Zoom access code. Please note: If you are interested in making any representations or commenting on any item on the Planning Committee’s agenda, decisions are currently being made by Round Robin emails only. Emails need to be received by 5pm, on the Friday preceding the Monday meeting.

Coronavirus (Covid-19)

We all want everyone to stay safe and receive the help they need. If residents need help, support or assistance to improve their quality of life, please contact the Community Warden, Liz Lovatt on 07813712107, or the KCC Kent Together 24 hour Helpline on 03000 41 92 92.

Rewilding of Brooks Field

Loose Parish Council has started to create a new wild flower meadow area in Brooks Field, located in the centre of the village, by the stream. A digger has removed the turf and topsoil ready to receive a mix of wild flower seed.

Keeping Property and Sheds Secure

There have been a number of incidents over the past few months of damage and thefts from vehicles and sheds. Please can residents report any suspicious activity and ensure nothing of value is left in vehicles. It is important to ensure all items are securely locked and not to have any items on display, particularly as the nights get colder and darker.

Scams

Several residents have mentioned receiving scam phone calls or emails. If anyone has responded to a scam in any way, please can they get in touch with the Community Warden, as there are steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of becoming a repeat victim of this. Trading Standards work closely with Action Fraud. All scams should be reported to Action Fraud on 03001232040. If money has changed hands, the police should also be notified. If a scammer is believed to be in the area dial 999 and report it to the police.

Hopefully, next year, this area with be vibrant and colourful with poppies, daisies, cornflowers, yellow rattle, ladies bedstraw and white campion. This mix had been specially selected to attract bees, butterflies and pollinators. The next task will be to deter the birds from eating the seed. If any families would like to create a scarecrow, please let us know and we will locate it in the middle of the new meadow. Contact the Parish Council at office@loose-pc.gov.uk. Loose Parish Council is currently looking at the budgets for April 2021-March 2022. What would YOU like the council to be doing? Ideas to office@loose-pc.gov.uk.

Walks & Rambles.... Why not try a self guided walk at Linton Park and Deer Park 4.5 miles / 7.3 km Allow 2 hours – 2 hours 15 min Starting from Linton public car park near St Nicholas Church. ME17 4AW, (Grid Ref: TQ754502 (What3Words senior.drill. proof ) OS Explorer 148 and Explorer 136 cover this route. Boughton Monchelsea Church - Church Farm – Linton Park – Toke Farm. Just 5 stiles Leave the CP going east on the Greensand Way. Cross a lane (in the direction of Liddington Oast) about halfway as you continue onto Boughton Monchelsea Church. On reaching Church Lane you turn left and take a path on the right in a few yards. You may like to enter the churchyard to appreciate the view of the deer park from the back of the church and then return. Take the footpath from Church Lane, initially by a wall and then through a small car park. After approx. half a mile at a footpath crossroads you leave the Greensand Way by turning right (by a large chestnut tree and a manhole at the junction). On this path, ignore path KM123 to the left, to continue ahead. Then, further on, as you cross a field to a stile ahead (at the time of writing rough underfoot due to dry mud), bear right, ignoring the stile but go diagonally across the field to the right of a large dead tree to join a lane. At the lane turn right to continue in a westerly direction along the lane. At a T-junction with Church Hill go left (with Church Farm House in front of you) for a few yards to take a footpath on the right (after converted barn). This path takes you across a field and over a bridge and stile to go through Brick Kiln Wood. Then over a meadow (marked as an orchard on the OS map) to reach Loddington Lane. Turn left on the lane for a short distance to take 14

another path on the right into Linton Park (just after locked “Private Fishing” entrance. Cross the park passing a lake on your left. Just after the lake, bear right, slowly away from the fence on your left. At the A229 turn right and then left into Wheelers Lane. Pass Toke Farm and proceed into Vanity Lane. Look for and take a footpath on the right, opposite Pitts Farmhouse. If the gate is locked you can easily bend underneath it. This path takes you back into Linton across a newly planted orchard. At the bottom of the valley continue ahead but go slightly over to the left to select your route between the newly planted rows of trees. Head for the church visible in the village ahead. Once across the orchard, look for a narrow path ahead to take you up to the main road. Cross the road back to the church car park. GPX file for your phone or GPS if you use one.

What people are saying about us . . . “A fantastic experience to take my miniature Yorkshire Terrier to Sarah. After 7 years with the same dog groomer I was a little nervous to change but didn’t need to be. Sarah made my pooch feel completely at ease and she looks and smells gorgeous.
