Welcome to our Autumn 2018 season programme This autumn season, Sampad celebrates the tremendous talent of young British Asian artists and continues to shine a light on the very best of our local culture. We are excited to be reviving our ever-popular series of free music events, Mid-day Mantra, in partnership with the India Institute and University Music at the University of Birmingham. In this special show, the stunning Dome at the Bramall Concert Hall will come alive with the sounds of sarod and percussion from charismatic and talented performers Soumik Datta and Ayoze de Alejandro Lopez. Yes, it really is free! As part of our Sakshi strand for women, we are delighted to be launching our Chai & Chat series in October, starting with a session on the written and spoken word. We invite budding writers and enthusiastic listeners to gather together over a warm cup of Chai at Zindiya Streatery and Bar. Rest assured, the tea and creativity will be flowing in equal measure! As the autumn days get colder and darker, we hope to spread warmth and light through our lively and varied programme. We look forward to seeing you there. You can stay up to date with the latest Sampad news and events by joining our mailing list online via www.sampad.org.uk, and following us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Look out for this symbol for Sakshi: Sampad’s promise to deliver four years of events and workshops telling the stories of women.

TRI & EKA: Double bill

Classical and contemporary Indian dance blend together in this dynamic double bill which features the most exciting young talent in South Asian dance, alongside live musicians. In TRI, captivating Bharatanatyam dancer Anaya Bolar and Kathak artist Shyam Dattani (both BBC Young Dancer stars) put a fresh spin on classical Indian dance as they tell an emotive story of love and devotion. In EKA, the mesmerising trio of Anaya, Emiko Jane Ishii and Kesha Raithatha convey female unity and strength as they imagine the Hindu goddesses of learning, wealth and power in a modern world.

Work in progress. Includes a post-show discussion. A middle-aged, middle-class, multicultural mum with millennial sons, this light hearted work-in-progress is a meditation on Sudha Bhuchar’s 'squeezed middle' life in Wimbledon, as she navigates her sense of ‘home’, friendships, family and returning to India. Told through fragments & monologues, this piece is inspired by evening conversations over Aperol spritzers! Sudha has appeared in Eastenders, The Archers and at the Royal National Theatre.
