University High School, Parkville, Melbourne, Australia. Very often, the success of students are determined by their grades in primary and secondary school, in university however, merely matter as much as how well students can motivate themselves and develop their interests & passions. The jump in lifestyle from school to university can be quite daunting for some students that it can disorientate them from focusing on more beneficial matters. The epitome of the concept for this design is therefore to help students transition from secondary school life to university through the careful design of spaces. The spaces found in this design forces different pedagogical styles of teaching with the addition of breakout spaces where students are encouraged to reflect and motivate themselves throughout their time in school, mimicking university life. The careful use of wood throughout the project psychologically creates a warm and inviting environment to explore and not be afraid to fail the first time. Revit, Enscape, Rhino, AutoCAD, Photoshop.

Neighbourhood Northcote Precinct Structure Plan urban precinct studio, 2018 Northcote, VICtoria, Australia.
2
Neighbourhood Northcote seeks to make Northcote a thriving outer-city suburb for future generations as Melbourne may soon be predicted to decentralise. As the population continues to grow and Melbourne expands in the next 50 years, housing will need to be intensified near public transport and a revamped space will be necessary to accomodate creative individuals and skilled minded workers. Qualities of community engagement in this proposal will be retained as much as possible albeit the population influx a new plaza, marketplace, relandscaped green spaces will all bring the residents of Northcote closer and resiliant to socio-economic changes of the future. Other members* in this project: Suraya Halim, Joanne Tong, Nan Zhang. *Only for site analysis, the final outcome of the project was produced individually. Rhino 3D, Illustrator, Photoshop

Increased Site Permeability to Public Park By subdividing Northcote Plaza’s large footprint into smaller blocks, this will allow permeability through into All Nations Park and will create an active street frontage around the shopping centre. It also creates opportunities for a community square (highlighted in fuscia) and a weekly marketplace (highlighted in yellow) to foster a sense of community for Northcote.
Landscaped hill to reduce physical barriers The location of these landscaped hills are along the train lines so as to remove physical barriers between the two neighbourhoods on either sides. This idea was inspired by Herring Larson’s Vinge Train Station in Copenhagen. It will serve as a rejuvenated park space while providing better connectivity for the public. 18
Rejuvenate and improve social housing Northcote’s social housing areas is proposed to be intensified and rehabilitated to provide new amenities for social housing residents and a private parkspace to improve their lifestyle and standards of living. Amenities like eateries, libraries and community spaces are to be expected on the first two floors of the new social housing buildings.
Intensify and grow Northcote’s activity centre High Street, being Northcote’s shopping and commercial centre, has potential to intensify and grow as the population of Northcote has many skilled workers. The growth of High Street will bring in new jobs foor the residents of Northcote and will reduce the need of travelling into the CBD for work.

Combined Map

Throughout the course of this subject, an urban morphological analysis of the city of Melbourne was undertaken using a range of techniques for urban mapping. Some techniques of urban mapping include figure ground mapping, functional mixes, streetlife and public space typology. The final products of the subject includes two maps that portray the varies techniques used to creatively contribute to different urban design concepts, approaches and outcomes within a global context. Legend Interfaces
Interfaces and Walking Pace This map aims to explore the pace of users in different parts of the Russell Street Transect and investigates the relationships between the interfaces of the urban landscape. The pace of users was recorded based on the tempo of their walking pace on the metronome scale and provided a tempo range between 80 to 130 beats per minute (bpm). Realistically, a more transparent interface would decrease the pace of users as their attention is drawn towards the street-level faรงade. Meanwhile, an impermeable faรงade would increase the pace of users. In the map, there have been areas of slow paces particularly in parks and places with interesting facades while other opaque and impermeable interfaces saw a spike in pace (with the exception of Hozier Lane).

Precedent for Cardigan Street Bridge Crossing (Lawrance, 2016)
Promote Loitering in Russell St Having seen the Assemblage map between the pace and interface, how can we reduce the pace of users in certain areas where there are high walking speeds and impermeable interfaces? Implementing the Cheonggyecheon urban redevelopment project and the Arc de Triomphe may be one solution. As observed in the Rhythm map, the walking pace is much lower in park spaces. This may be the case as users would find parks to be peaceful and they would want to indulge in the greenery. The Cheonggyecheon river project acts like the park, and will be situated in fragments, in places where quicker pacing is observed. This is to respect the grid system and still allow for vehicular traffic to flow through. Pedestrian zones are located near the Arc and near ‘rivers’ which would accommodate and facilitate uninterrupted immersion of the user. This would bring crowd into these areas and create attraction spots along the entire transect. With these implementations, it will hopefully aim to challenge the fastpaced lifestyle of the city and promote loitering with place activation. It would be interesting to observe how significantly slower the walking pace would be in these previously monotonous areas.

The Cascade Public Change Room Studio Air, 2017 Dights Falls, Yarra River, Melbourne, Australia. Inspired by the water currents on site and the Ban Pavilion by Orproject, the concept of cascade finalised to evolve around anisotrophy, fluidity and transparency. With the help of parametric modelling tools like Grasshopper, the changeroom is made from a network of folded polypropylene sheets which have predefined connections to create a systematic pattern that can seemlessly form walls and transition over to columns and roofings.
5
The use of transparent materials also challenges the idea of privacy. Since the polypropylene sheets are translucent in nature, overlapping and folding them creates an almost opaque wall with only the silhoutte of the user being visible. This explores the idea of being insecure, yet motivates people to become one with nature. Other members in this project: Sidney Sim & Trinh Pham Rhino 3D, Grasshopper, V-Ray, Photoshop, Laser Cutting

3d Modelling Fashion Designer Shop Personal Venture, 2017 My friend and I were approached to produce a retail shop render/artist impression for a friend of ours who was studying fashion design. It was an opportunity for us to take on a client’s request and produce a work that challenged our skills in both designing and rendering. A small amount of pocket money was earned from this venture as we made a satisfying outcome through the final renders and axonometrics. Other members in this project: Sidney Sim Rhino 3D, V-Ray

Time Out Conceptual Design SONA Competition, 2018 ‘Breathing Space’ was the theme of 2018’s Sona competition and in that two-day competition, our team used the kaleidoscope to metaphotically represent our idea of a breathing space. The Kaleidoscope is not only visual escape from reality, but it can also metaphorically decontextualise its surroundings and take you to another dimension of reality, one that is without expectations and with constant surprises. Observing past the kaleidoscope lies a portal where views are framed and amplified to invoke the tactile senses that makes oneself conscious of elements of an everyday pathway we may use but never realise its existance. The more we uncover these hidden elements, the more we come to our senses and ultimately we feel different, free of our anxieties and dutily expectations. Our playfulness, anger, greef and sorrows are released into this other world and for a moment, we have time to breathe and reflect, and with a clearer mind and a refreshed body, we return to reality with this imaginative dimension kept safe within the kaleidoscope.
