UNDERGROUND LIBRARY
Academic Project, 2013
Team : Samuel Garcia, Arthur Mizutani, Paloma Vicente,
The goal of the project done for a discipline in the Architecture Course of UNESP Bauru was the realization of a Public Library in an existing plot in the center of the city, on an existing structure of an old underground parking. The five floors below the street level is the heart of the project. The access from the sidewalk level is made through a staircase at the south end and two elevators at the north end. Thought in a “U shape, the building creates a large square in the center, open to the public and with the function of integrating the urban network into the building. The program includes a media library, a library for children, research spaces, reading spaces, an openair cinema, a coffee shop and a literature-based souvenir shop.

Academic Project, 2013
Team : Samuel Garcia, Arthur Mizutani, Paloma Vicente,
In this project, the proposal was a new classroom building for an Architecture, Arts and Communication University. The building should attempt courses of Fine Arts, Architecture and Urban Planning as well as Product Design and Graphic Design. In order to preserve and enhance the experience already gained by the students and to preserve the Cerrado native flora in the area, the entire building was raised three feet above the ground, and the project design was thought in a way that allows for it to include all the vegetation of an existing small forest. The project is proposing a large space for activities and allows the users to occupy it freely.

The proposal was a requalification of a Public Garden, using wood furniture made by Muda Design Group. The intent of this project was to preserve as much as possible the existing landscape. Thus, a suspended network of walkways was designed to connect modular structures, based on the geometry of the Muda furniture, as well as on the hexagonal shapes of beehives. At ground level were proposed pathways through the native vegetation for recreational and physical purposes.

The idea of the Minhocao bicycle parking comes on the background of urban transformation that the city of Sao Paulo is going through in the present, some of which are the mobility - taking of the streets by the bicycles - or the lack of water in the city. The implantation spot we chose is a very controversial place in the city. The Minhocao bridge, which is closed for the cars every Sunday, and turns into a freestyle platform for the citizens, is proposed to become the next High Line Park. The Minhocao bicycle parking is a modular project, where each of the fifteen octagonal modules contains seven covered vacancies, the eighth part of the module being equipped with a shower. The bike vacancies are independent one from another, each one being equipped in the lower part with a small cabinet for accessories, which makes the bike being hung in a vertical position above it and allows the doors of the module to close completely. The module is replicable in any place, alone or in groups of many. The present project is able to secure a hundred bikes. In this case, the modules are interlinked with a metallic pergola, which also works as a web of water pipes, conducting the necessary water for all the showers and becoming, at the same time, a shaded square with places to sit for the citizens. Utilizing water in a smart way in order to economize it is a hot issue in the city today, this being the reason why we decided to reply to this challenge by recycling the rain water and filter it through the circuit of banana trees, a method highly used in Brazil. Every bike parking module is doubled by a module with similar shape, which holds the banana trees. They aren’t only a mean of sustainability, but also a plus of landscape design and a source of shade and fruits for the people. This proposal intends to boost discussions concerning urban mobility, the implementation of new green areas and awareness of water use.

24H CONTEST - IDEAS FORWARD Contest project, 2014
The project was made for a contest that proposes the design, in 24h, of a scientist shelter in Antarctica. The concept is based on the structure of the liquid water molecule, the main element characterizing the environment, and refers to its capacity of adapting to any surface. The exterior of the shelter has a sharp geometry, allowing it to become more aerodynamic. The program is divided in three functions. The first level includes the basic needs of the researchers, such as the bathroom, the kitchen, the electric generator and waste hopper compartments. The second floor is for the rest area and the working zone, connected by a vertical stair. The third floor is an optional space dedicated to relaxation and reading. The whole structure is lifted 2 meters from the ground, in order to be easy to locate on different plots, using a independent hydraulic system on each one of the 4 pillars connected to a main mobile platform that allows to control the height.

Ideas Forward http://www.if-ideasforward.com ANTARCTIC PENINSULA 29 Nov 2014 - 30 Nov 2014 The Project is based on the structure of liquid water molecule, by making a reference to its capacity on adapting itself to any kind of recipient. The aesthetics concept provided by the structural behavior becomes a reference to the arctic landscape, where the water on its solid state, the rocks and the hills show geometrics shapes amongst the white immensity. The program is divided on three main functions. The basic needs on the first floor, where it can be found the bathroom, the kitchen, the food pantry, the eletric gernerator and waste hopper compartiments. The second floor is for the rest area and the working zone, conected by a vertical stair. The third floor, accesed by another stair, is an optional space dedicated to relaxation and reading. The whole structure is lifted 2 meters from the ground level, in order to be flexible and easy to be located on diferents plots, using a independent hydraulic system on each one of the 4 pillars conected to a main mobile plataform that allows to control the height. The triangular elements on the external surface cut the wind, making it lose the strenght and bringing stability to the building.

The tower. houses 136 rooms with bathrooms and pantries with 4 dimensions (for 1, 2, 3 and even 4 residents of the same family), distributed vertically on 17 floors, with 8 rooms per floor (all of which with green terraces), with an internal distribution that creates the sensation of an upward spiraling movement on the facade. The shaft will include a circular, ventilated corridor, with two glass elevators and a central staircase. One floor will be used for a nursery and the two lower floors will be used for commercial spaces - some of which are to sell handicraft products produced by the residents -, and for assistance facilitiesfor the residents. The rent from the shops will help to lower the building's maintenance costs.
FURNITURE DESIGN Reception desk, realized within the office Abassi Sadki, in Tunisia, during the internship program (2014).
