Brainstorming: Allergy Stats
In the beginning, I was going to do my statistic on allergies. Since I do not have any known allergies I thought it would be interesting to find out what my peers are allergic to.

I choose this subject to be my final because I thought I could create a lot of different icons to represent my data.

Throughout my process I became stuck on text overlaying an image. While I thought it was a good idea at first I can see now that it throws off the hierarchy. While the image illustrates that my subject is about University of Kansas campus it does represent the data very clearly. Even when I attempted to add a bar graph to display the data more clearly the piece became more complicated. Simple shapes and clean type is the way.

Using simple shapes and the concept of shoe tread I created an image based poster. The title needed to be more identifiable and the tires more distinct than the rest of the shoe. Walk

How do you arrive to campus?
A simple bar graph or circle graph was too simple for this project. I tried to add in subject matter to the graphs, but the vision became lost. On the left, the icons do not seem to fit the graph. On the right, the bike tire was seen as a gear of some sort. Simplicity is key.

I started to stay away from images and focused on typography. I was going to focus on one stat, but then I thought the poster would be lacking. Slowly I added in shapes to display the percents and after revisions I created my final piece.
I wanted the viewer to move their eyes throw the poster. Catching their eye with abstract title and with the aid of the subtitle understanding the image. 32 graphic design students of the Unversity of Kansas took a toll asking them how they arrive to campus each day.
