PEARL TO RENOVATE AND REOPEN STABLE HALL Built in 1894, the Pearl Stable was home to the brewery’s fleet of draft horses, and most recently, it was a gathering place for San Antonio. The venue was previously known as Jersey Lilly. According to the Pearl, “The stable will reopen in 2023. The Pearl also announced, “The stable will feature an outdoor German-inspired Biergarten as a component of Stable Hall. H-E-B TO RENOVATE SHOPS AT LINCOLN HEIGHTS STORE, WILL TAKE OVER ADJACENT TWIN LIQUORS SPACE

Last September, H-E-B confirmed plans to renovate its store in The Shops at Lincoln Heights (999 E Basse Road). The location was previously an Albertson’s. HEB moved in, in August 2002. According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the store will expand to an estimated 117,285 square feet. They are adding over 42,000 square feet to the facility. As news of the renovation spread, the rumor mill began churning. Was HEB going to add a second story to the store? Was the company taking over the Stein Mart space in the center? 14 78209magazine.com

H-E-B wasn’t saying much about its plans, but company spokesperson Julie Bedingfield told me, “We are not moving into the Stein Mart space.” And, she added, “Because of the supply chain issues in the construction space, we haven’t shared our plans for the store publicly, but as soon as we feel confident in timelines, I’ll be sure to give you details that your readers will be interested to see.” I was able to confirm one of the rumors. A manager at Twin Liquors, which sits adjacent to H-E-B, told me the liquor store would move into part of the space vacated when Stein Mart closed in 2020 to make room for H-E-B to take over their space.

NEIGHBORS AND NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION OPPOSE RE-ZONING REQUEST FOR 112 E. SUNSET When the owner of 112 E. Sunset Rd. applied for a zoning change from residential to commercial, neighbors took to the streets to object. Signs urging “Keep East Sunset Road Residential” sprouted up on neighboring properties between Broadway St. and N. New Braunfels Ave. The concern was mirroring their stretch of Sunset like the heavily commercial portion of W. Sunset, between Broadway and Jones Maltsberger Rd. The property owner reportedly had leased the single-family home to a commercial sanitation business. San Antonio code compliance ordered the owner to shut down the commercial business. The Oak Park Northwood Neighborhood Association board of directors unanimously voted to oppose the rezoning request. Faced with united opposition to his effort to rezone

the property, the owner postponed the application with the zoning commission. His attorney, Patrick Christensen, told me, “The ‘postponed’ rezoning application means they have six months to reinstate the case if they pay a $415 fee. If they reinstate the case, the neighborhood and surrounding property owners will receive notice again.” He added, “They understand that Code Enforcement will cite them if they start up operations again. They told me they will either fix the existing house and sell it or maybe build a new one, all within what is allowed by the existing zoning designation.”

By way of full disclosure, my wife, Gina Galaviz Eisenberg, is president of the Oak Park Northwood Neighborhood Association. 16 78209magazine.com

PETBAR ALAMO HEIGHTS LOCATION IS NOW OPEN! Petbar, a self and full-service washing and full-service luxury dog grooming boutique opened its first location on Broadway in the heart of Alamo Heights. petbar was founded in Dallas by Dan and Ashley O’Loughlin in 2015 when they were seeking a clean and relaxing grooming environment for their schnauzer, Bella. After numerous groomers failed to meet their expectations, they decided to build a boutique that captured their vision for a pet spa, and thus, petbar was born. Petbar is a Texas based franchised pet boutique that is growing rapidly to meet the needs of pet parents who demand an exceptional experience for their fur babies. Marc Hildebrand and Cyndi Flores, both San Antonio natives, teamed up to bring the petbar concept to Alamo Heights. BUSINESS PROFILE -

It’s a Dog’s Life in 78209 According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, Texas has more dogs than any other state in the U.S. It is estimated that Texas is home to 7.2 million dogs, and there are many thriving businesses here in San Antonio that cater to our furry, four-legged friends. One of the city’s most successful canine boutiques also happens to be located right here in Alamo Heights. At the “tail end” of 2014, Mike’s Dog Store opened in the Sunset Ridge Shopping Center. The owners, Mike and Tina Kuykendall, have created a dog lover’s paradise that features everything from designer collars and leashes to specialty dog food and organic dog treats to the most adorable and creative dog toys you can imagine. The store is a riot of colors and textures that will inspire you to empty your wallet for the pleasure of your beloved dog babies, and you’ll want to return again and again to restock your pooch’s favorite things while discovering some that you never knew your dog could not live without. Mike is a native San Antonian and attended Churchill High School. Tina hails from California but has called Texas home for many years now. Together, the couple has three children, who are all attending college in various states, and they are proud of their knowledgeable staff, who are well known for their outstanding customer service. When asked what sets Mike’s Dog Store apart from other pet stores, he will tell you, “We love to get to know our customers and their dogs. Every dog is unique, and we will help you find the right specialty foods and toys that match your dog’s personality and play style.” Feeding our four-legged friends is very important to their overall health and longevity. Mikes Dog Store carries many different high-quality dog food brands that address specific issues your dog may be dealing with. Whether your dog has food allergies, health issues, or is just plain picky, Mike and his team are sure to have something that will address the issue. Mike says, “You should feed your dog the very best food that you can afford to keep him or her in the best health possible. We are always looking for the best biologically appropriate dog foods for our customers, and we can help you keep your dog’s weight, skin, teeth, and bodies in great condition.”

During the holiday season, Mike’s Dog Store offers an excellent opportunity for your pup to take pictures with Santa. For a $15 donation, your Fido or Fifi can get sit on Santa’s lap and also make a difference in the lives of other, not-sofortunate dogs. All proceeds go to Poquita Paws Rescue and to the photography program at Cole High School, which spends the day taking photos and delivering digital prints to participating pooches and their owners. Our dogs are an important part of our families, and we love to spoil them, even if they don’t know how good they have it. Mike’s Dog Store understands this and works hard to find the most unique, quality pet products out there to stock the store. So, whether you are a fan of the original “Saturday Night Live” era and you think that your pup would appreciate a chew toy in the shape of Mr. Bill, or your little princess paws needs a new tutu for her doggy play date, Mike’s Dog Store has it all.

MEET YOUR NEIGHBORS -

Bringing Color and Flavor to Alamo Heights By Meredith Kay Photography by Al Rendon

As soon as you meet The Gomez family, there is no doubt in your mind that they will have an interesting story. Joe A. Gomez III is friendly and affable, and will make you feel as if you are talking to a friend. Kathleen “Kat” Day Gomez is engaging, with her bright colors, unique jewelry, and beautiful smile. Aiden Gamez, Kat’s son, is curious and observant, and his mind is always creating. Together they are a creative force and have dedicated their hearts to bringing beauty and great taste to their Alamo Heights neighborhood. Joe and Kat met in 2019 and were married last March, when Snowmageddon ruined their February 2021 wedding plans. Joe grew up in San Antonio until high school, when his family moved to San Marcos. When he graduated, he returned to San Antonio to attend St. Mary’s University, where he received his degree in Entrepreneurial Studies. Joe spent 23 years working with Cavender’s Boot City and Western Wear, managing décor and branding. He has also always been an avid foodie, teaching himself to perfect his cooking techniques throughout the years. Joe launched NOVEM Cuisine during the pandemic, and he is now in high demand as a personal chef and inhome dining experience curator. “I was inspired by my father, who loved to cook and travel, and I love working with clients to bring their visions to life for parties and unique dining events.” NOVEM is Latin for the number “nine,” and Joe takes the name because he only has nine fingers, after losing a finger in a severe auto accident in his early 20s. Kat is quite the style maven. She was born in Pennsylvania, but her family moved to Converse when she was 12. She attended Judson High School, where she received the Presidential Award for Literary Excellence. She knew as a teenager that she wanted to live her life and make a living at creating art, and she has quite successfully done just that. She says, “My dad taught me how to market myself as an artist to local businesses, and now I get to work with amazing business owners helping them bring their design and image visions to life.” Kat creates multi-media art shown in galleries worldwide while also running a successful graphic design, photography,

and branding company as a creative brand consultant. She is a dynamic woman with many talents and says that it was only when she was identified to have ADHD, and later that she was on the autism spectrum, that her many interest really made sense. Kat’s son, Aiden, is also on the spectrum, and he has definitely inherited his mother’s artistic side. Aiden is 11 and attends Alamo Heights Junior School. Watching Aiden play in nature, you can see his creative side working. He positions natural items into montage scenes of sculptures and arrangements. He will arrange and rearrange items of different sizes and textures until he is happy with the balance, and then he will move on to create something else. Kat states, “Aiden has been creating art since he was a toddler. His finger paintings, for example, were so advanced in the way that he used colors and textures that it was evident he had a discerning eye. So, I showed him techniques to improve upon what he naturally gravitated toward.” As Kat showcased Aiden’s art on social media pages, he captured the attention of the Dream a Dream organization, which featured one of his creations in their “What If” branding campaign, and Aiden is quite proud of it. Joe, Kat, and Aiden love to patronize the local shops, galleries, and restaurants along the Broadway corridor. Kat and Aiden take long walks discovering new places near their neighborhood, and appreciate how friendly and accepting everyone is in this community. Kat has hopes to open her own studio and gallery in the area one day, but until then, the Gomez family will continue enjoy the community that has welcomed them with open arms. APRIL 2022

HOME I M PROVEMENT -

4 Tips on Bathroom Renovations When it comes to home renovations, the bathroom is one of the most popular places to upgrade. Per the National Association of Home Builders, bathroom remodeling is among the most requested home renovations this year. But starting a bathroom renovation can be scary, so here are four easy tips to consider before and during the remodel. 1. Prepare For an Adjustment In most cases, the family continues to live in the home as the renovations are underway. This time can be hectic! To maintain your sanity when remodeling your bathroom, consider setting up temporary bathroom space. This may involve renting a Porta-Potty, moving a vanity into a bedroom, and everything in between. 2. Use Professionals We recommend taking your dream bathroom ideas to a professional. If you need help finding the right builder, NARI and NAHB, two professional builder organizations, can be a great help.

On the design side, it’s wise to select an architect and/or designer that you trust, one with an eye for detail, as this relationship becomes highly personal in many instances. When speaking with potential contractors, you may want to: • Ask for references • Look at their credentials, including photos of past projects • Make sure your contractor has proper insurance coverage 3. Understand the Budget Process Request and spend some time with an SOV, or “schedule of values.” This will show what each item of labor and materials costs and is an easy way to stay on budget. When creating the budget for your renovation, consider: • What are your top priorities? Once you begin the renovation process, it’s easy to get lost in the details or sidetracked with additional projects. • How are you going to finance remodeling your bathroom? If you’re pulling funds from your savings account, you may feel a bit more wiggle room for unforeseen costs—a backordered shower, for example. If your budget for your renovation is limited, though, be ready to compromise as the project progresses to save money where possible. • What materials are you planning to use? Know up front which materials are your non-negotiables (for instance, marble flooring) and communicate this clearly to your contractor. 4. Be Willing To Speak Up This is your space, your life, and your money. If you are uncomfortable with something that you see or hear, speak up! Did you want the heated floor to run across the whole bathroom, but it’s only on the side? Let the professionals know as soon as you see something amiss so you will be sure to achieve the best results, and this can be a space you enjoy and love! Are you looking to get started on a bathroom renovation? Visit Materials Marketing – San Antonio to chat with a natural stone expert and get your project started on the right foot! Visit Materials-Marketing.com or stop by our San Antonio showroom to learn more.

Wendy Martinson By Ron Aaron Eisenberg

For Wendy Martinson, it was a commercial she heard on the radio that led her to join the Army. “I was a nursing home social worker. Driving home one day, I thought to myself, I don’t see doing this work for the rest of my life. That’s when I heard a commercial for the Army. ‘Be all you can be.’ I thought that might be fun.” Martinson, 67, was born in Minnesota and grew up in Red Wing, home of Red Wing boots. Her dad was a school superintendent. She went to college in Bimini, North Dakota. Martinson went to Army basic training at Ft. Jackson S.C. and then to officer training school. She recalls, “Basic was kind of fun, although I did not like being yelled at. I went directly from Basic to Officer Candidate School. It made basic training look like a Sunday school picnic. From OCS, Martinson went to Ft. Lewis Washington for a short stint. “We were in the field the entire time I was there. It was winter – camping in the cold and wet.” She spent time in Germany and got to SA in 2005, where she has been ever since. “I was the Garrison Commander at Ft. 28 78209magazine.com

Sam from 2005-2008. It was the best assignment I had in the Army – all the challenges and opportunities all came together. Running an installation is an enormous responsibility.” Martinson told me, “When I joined the Army, there were no female officers in the medical service corps. I was the first to be a garrison commander at Ft. Sam.” She added, “All through my career, I met wonderful people willing to lay down their lives for their country – whatever it takes to get the job done, they would do. I feel very, very honored to have worn the cloth of our country.” Now retired, Martinson is putting together a mentorship program for the SA Women’s Hall of Fame with the San Antonio Young Women’s Leadership Academy. Like Martinson, her husband, Frank Berling, is a retired Col. He too was a Medical Service Corps Officer. They married in 1988 while serving in Germany. With all that is happening in Ukraine, I asked Martinson if she might be called back into service. She laughed and said, “I have had two hip replacements, so if the Army wants a bionic woman, I’m here!

Bart comes from a “GoldStarFamily” patriotism and service to one’s community have been important factors instilled in him throughout his life. He has a deep respect and honors the sacrifice our military makes for this Country. Bart served The Texas Cavaliers as the River Parade Marshal for Kaleidoscope in 2013 and is also a two-term Past Commander of the organization. He currently serves as a board member of the Texas Cavaliers, trustee of the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation, and is treasurer of the Warm Springs Foundation. Fiesta as a celebration of the diverse culture of the San Antonio Community has been a tradition in Bart’s family and extended family throughout his life. His wife, Marnie, daughters, Tobin and Tinsley, and grandson, Cuatro, are direct descendants of the Spanish Canary Islanders that settled San Antonio and laid the cornerstone at San Fernando Cathedral. Their family line has called San Antonio home for 15 generations and is part of the fabric and mix of culture that make the city a wonderful place to call home. Bart believes that it is important to come together to celebrate our diverse culture, and that it is even better when we help improve the lives of San Antonio’s children through our Fiesta activities. The Texas Cavaliers believe in the future of all children, and we work to ensure opportunities for them. As King Antonio XCIX, Bart will have the honor of presenting more than $2,000,000 to area children’s charities. Of all the places she’s traveled to and visited, San Antonio is one of her favorites. The lifelong friendships she made growing up in North East ISD are a big part of why her connection to the Alamo City is stronger than ever. “I’m grateful to have almost had my whole primary and secondary education at North East Independent School District,” said O’Donnell. “I went to Serna Elementary, Garner Middle School and Douglas MacArthur High School. Go Brahmas! My father was a doctor in the Army, so I did miss part of middle school when my dad was stationed abroad in Seoul, South Korea, and I went to school there. But otherwise, I spent most of my time going to school in San Antonio and nurturing lifelong friendships.” Some of O’Donnell’s favorite memories and friendships came together at MacArthur, where she graduated in 1991. She was part of the Latin Club, National Honor Society and Executive Student Council. She also ran track and cross country and was the Head Cheerleader her senior year. She still remembers the impact Brahma Cheer Coach, Yvette Bruno, and Spanish teacher Barbara Dielmann had on her as a teenager. “Ivette Bruno was our cheerleading coach and she was just both so kind and also competitive. She was a great mentor to myself and others on the team. She brought the best out in 32 78209magazine.com

everyone. And Barbara Dielmann, who was a Spanish teacher and head of student council. We all love Barbara Dielmann. She’s so great.” O’Donnell was part of the first MacArthur cheerleading team to compete at nationals, where the team placed 10th in the nation. To this day, she vacations with her tight-knit group of friends from MacArthur. When they can’t get together in person, they stay in touch through a text chain called “Texas Peeps.” When considering what advice to give current NEISD students, two things came to mind for O’Donnell. “I think my best advice would be something that I talk about often which is the quality of your life is built on the quality of your relationships,” said O’Donnell. “The other thing I’ve picked up on lately, and I heard it from someone we interviewed, and that was believing in yourself is the ultimate superpower. I think it’s important to tell young people to believe in the power of their ideas, believe in their skills and nurture them. Believe that what they can do actually matters and that their voice can be their superpower and maybe that’s the best advice I can give to my friends there in San Antonio.” Big or small, everyone has a story to tell.

The best high school racquetball players in the country go to MacArthur

Naomi Ros and DJ Mendoza have a lot in common. They’re both sophomores at MacArthur High School. They’re also two of the country’s top high school racquetball players. Naomi recently finished 1st place in the nation in the Girls Singles Division at the USA Racquetball National High School Championship. DJ placed 4th in the Boys Singles Division and the duo won gold in the Mixed Doubles competition. DJ and Naomi have what it takes to be champions. That starts with embracing the sacrifice and grind that comes with going to school, practicing 20 hours a week and traveling for competitions. Both discovered their love for the game at a young age. DJ and Naomi both hope to pursue racquetball at the collegiate and professional level after high school. Congratulations, Naomi and DJ!

TIPS FOR TAXES

Take 5: What Every CPA Should Tell His or Her Clients By Jim Rice, CPA

Having been a CPA for more than 40 years, I have had the opportunity to work with many different clients in numerous situations. While no two are alike, I want to share a few thoughts that I believe are important and applicable to anyone working with a CPA: 1. You truly get what you pay for. Great advisors are always busy and typically more expensive but worth it. Give your CPA time to understand a situation and provide advice. Don’t be overly concerned about avoiding professional fees because that often results in a large financial detriment. Make sure to work with a CPA who has experience working with your particular industry, as there are advantages to having a thorough understanding of the tax law nuances as they apply to different types of business industries and structures. I often get the question, “What can I deduct?” This conversation should be about your financial goals and how the tax laws can assist in getting you there. The more your CPA knows about you and your financial goals, the more help he or she is to you. 2. Learn to understand your tax returns. While I don’t mean for you to become an accountant, it is important that you have an understanding of how different types of income 38 78209magazine.com

are taxed and how your taxes were determined. Also, if you receive financial statements, you should feel comfortable reading and understanding what they tell you about your financial situation. Ask your CPA to sit down and explain your financial statements and tax returns if you have any questions. The more questions you ask us, the better a CPA can be of service to you. Even before a CPA can be of help, a great bookkeeper should be keeping the books up to date and accurate. 3. Embrace complexity as needed. Proactive tax planning can have a significant impact on your bottom line. A CPA can’t help you plan for income taxes after the ink has dried on a contract. Keep your CPA up to date on your activity to ensure that they can offer you meaningful planning advice on how to structure significant transactions. Review your will after the enactment of every major tax law and after every major change in your life. As your estate grows, look more closely at asset protection tools like a family limited partnership, limited liability company, and trusts. Wrap valuable assets like business properties in separate limited liability companies.

If you have employees or you are an employee, have employment agreements that are clear and cover all aspects of employment. If you are an owner with others, establish company agreements that can settle issues like exit disagreements and the sale of the business. 4. Having internal controls within your business can save your assets. Hiring the right people for the right job is highly important. Simple procedures like performing background checks and fully vetting the competency of new hires can help save your business’ assets and reputation. Pay top dollar for everyone who takes care of you. Internal financial controls are crucial to help protect yourself by deterring employee theft and other related crimes. Fraud is often committed by the most trusted employees, which can include family. Never give the same person checkwriting and bank reconciliation responsibilities. 5. Keep an eye on the future for yourself and for future generations. If you have not adequately addressed what you

need to retire comfortably, it is never too late or too soon to develop a plan. This is where a certified financial planner is so important. Retirement plans like a company 401(k) or individual retirement accounts can be great. Some retirement plans allow larger contributions. Investigate these. But if your retirement account is very large and you may not need to use all the funds, then creative planning can help you avoid future taxes on that account. Services such as estate planning, business succession planning, and family tax planning can go a long way in protecting your assets. Educate future generations on how you make your money. Address the tax implications of your income and plan for the future. Managing your money and your taxes is challenging work. But after four-plus decades as a CPA, I can tell you that embracing these five steps will produce much more optimal results for you and your family.

Jim Rice, CPA, is a shareholder at Sol Schwartz & Associates and works with numerous San Antonio-area families, professionals, and business owners on a wide range of complex tax and accounting matters. He may be reached at jprice@ssacpa.com or 210.384.8000.

Therapeutic Riding and Hippotherapy By Kerstin L. Fosdick, LPT

Formed in 1991, The Saddle Light Center (SLC) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization located in Selma, TX, inside Retama Equestrian Center. As a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (P.A.T.H.) organization, SLC provides professional equine-assisted activities and therapy (EAAT) to the disabled population of San Antonio and surrounding areas with the goal of improving their quality of life. “Our mission to provide equine therapy to individuals with varying disabilities – including, but not limited to, neurological, orthopedic, learning, and emotional – with the goal of inspiring our riders to achieve accomplishments previously considered beyond their capabilities.” EAAT is an umbrella term used to describe all equine activities and therapies designed for people with disabilities or diverse needs. SLC focuses its program on Therapeutic Riding and Hippotherapy. Therapeutic Riding centers on teaching a rider the sport of horseback riding within the scope of their abilities. In comparison, Hippotherapy refers to the use of the movement of the horse as a treatment strategy by licensed therapists to address impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities in patients with neuromotor and sensory dysfunction. Many types of disabilities can be treated through SLC’s EAAT program. The riders may include those diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, development delay, 40 78209magazine.com

head injury, learning disability, Spina Bifida, or Multiple Sclerosis, as well as recovering stroke and brain injuries. Through the program’s carefully planned and customized lessons, riders have been shown to profit physically, cognitively, and emotionally. Benefits of lessons may include: Physical benefits: - Improved muscle tone, strength, and control. - Increased range of motion, endurance, balance, gross and fine motor skills. - Stimulation of cardio-respiratory function. - Improved coordination, sensory processing, and ambulation. Cognitive benefits: - Better critical problem-solving skills. - Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions. - Enhanced concentration and focus. - Promotes spatial judgment. Emotional and social benefits: - Greater self-esteem and an increased sense of accomplishment. - Emotional control and self-discipline. - Social interaction.

The ability to ride one of SLC’s 13 horses gives tremendous physical and psychological benefits to those previously denied the usual scope of outdoor activities. Take it from their rider M. Moser, “SLC has changed my outlook on life – providing me with purpose, improved my overall health and mental wellness.” Between Moser’s testimonial and a quick glance at the program’s Great Non-Profit’s page - https://greatnonprofits.org/ org/saddle-light-center-for-therapeutic-horsemanship the impact it has had on the quality of life of those who have participated in the program is evident, as words like “godsend” appear. It is clear that SLC is achieving their mission and continue to do so through the generosity of their sponsors and volunteer workforce.

Jardín Great Flavors are Blooming at the Botanical Garden

EAT IN ‘09

-

It’s not a secret that the culinary scene is exploding here in San Antonio, and food enthusiasts have so many ways to explore the flavors of the world right here in our backyard. Luckily, many of the best restaurants in town are located in and around Alamo Heights. Still, only one local eatery sits among the most beautiful scenery in town. Chef Jason Dady brings his Mediterranean menu to the grounds of the San Antonio Botanical Garden at Jardín. Housed in the original Sullivan Carriage House built in 1896, the standout feature is the outdoor patio called “Gertie’s Garden.” The garden offers seating for nearly 150 socially distanced guests in the open air and is surrounded by mature trees providing natural shade. The patio also showcases a beautiful display of annual plantings and colorful flowers that set the perfect backdrop to an outstanding dining experience. Chef Dady shares, “We wanted to create a dining experience that would appeal to everyone. Whether you are meeting friends, having a business meeting, or just dining out as a family, Jardín allows diners to create their own unique experience with our menu and our venue.” The menu consists mainly of mezze (small) plates that embody the flavors of the Mediterranean. Jardín offers a taste of Turkish, Italian, Greek, Moroccan, and Spanish cuisines, blended beautifully to create a lavish meal meant to be shared and awaken your tastebuds. “We never try to reinvent the wheel, but we do try to put our fresh spin on classic, cultural foods that will appeal to those diners adventurous enough to try something different.” The kitchen is blessed with access to fresh seasonal herbs and edible plants grown on-site. The menu changes seasonally, and all of the dishes are low-impact and prepared smoke-free. The idea, when Jardín was being conceptualized, was to keep the carriage house intact, maintaining its historical charm. Chef Dady says, “The real beauty of the place is the building. It has beautiful lines and features.” The dishes are as colorful and beautiful as the flowers surrounding the patio. Make an entire meal for everyone by ordering several of the mezze plates to share, like the Deviled Eggs topped with saffron and smoked paprika or the Spinach-Feta Dip with orange, dill, and pistachio, or choose the wildly popular Grilled Goat Cheese Sandwich. Some other standout dishes include the Saffron Glazed Chicken Breast crisply baked to perfection, served with a preserved lemon reduction and topped with asparagus and crispy onions. The Pan Seared Salmon served with Moroccan-inspired Couscous, Charred Cumin Oil, Tzatziki, and Apricot Purée has also become a house favorite and signature dish. Jardín also features an awe-inspiring bar program with creative craft cocktails, like the Rising Sun, made with Hendrick’s Gin, cucumber, allspice, fresh mint, and house-made saffron syrup. Local Texas craft beers and a carefully curated wine list featuring wines from around the world are also available to complement your meal. If you are looking for an excellent spot for a small gathering of old friends, clients, or you simply want to take the family and make a day of it strolling the garden, then make plans to visit the restaurant and take time to smell the flowers as you savor the Mediterranean flavors of Jardín.
