Semester 3

Major Assignment - Project designing an Orphanage in Mumbai. After learning basics of design in first year, this was one good project to help learn empathy with. The process of thinking like children and then designing proportional structure on a contoured plot made the Design stick to the ground in public spaces and completely elevated in private ones.

Semester 4

5 v Exploded Isometric View of Design House of a 8 Membered Family

Major Assignment - Project designing an Tribal Settlement in Vakipada near Dahanu. This was a documentation based design process, the entire class was on site documenting existing Padas deep inside a jungle. A hypothetical scenario was placed as a challenge, to relocated 9 families within the Warli Tribal Village, so that not to alienate newcomers neither to intimidate earlier residents with swanky new painted houses. All Natural Materials required for building purposes were discussed and utilized according to feasibility of the person who will build their own house themselves.

-Major Assignment - SEM 5 Project designing Coworking Space in South Mumbai. < The Design spaces were supposed to includes redevelopment of on-site informal warehouses as well as new development of CoWorking, Shared and Private Working Spaces. Design Process started with the idea of having multiple level floors connected with multiple staircases as well as acess ramps, such that each landing functions as its own floor and one floor to the other wont be half a flight of stairs away. > Another Interesting research was the presentation i made on Art Deco Typology of Architecture.

-Major Assignment - SEM 6 Project designing Research Institute in Nashik. < The Institutional Architecture Project had a choice provided to the students on which institute to pick, based on a riverfront site in Suburban Nashik. I choose a River Research Institute as it was right on the River Godavari, as also connects to the rich history of Nashik and other Indian Holy Cities. v Another Interesting Project was the redevelopment of an empty disused Playground to a community driven Landscape Architecture in Goregaon, Mumbai.

Semester 7

Major Assignment - Project designing low cost housing in Central Indore. The project started with documentation of Low Cost Housing in Indore namely the Aranya Scheme by B.V. Doshi as well as the Slum Networking Scheme by Himanshu Parekh. Redevelopment of a Slum Site was given as a project for design purposes with a very high population density. The Documentation was eventually picked up by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, who sponsored the book published which i helped produce artworks, drawings and photgraphs for.

slab space. In this monsoon climate, the experience of using the spaces, steps, trees, shades, and seatings make a public space great. Hence the section designed was applied in a structure in a curvilinear form so as to create interesting interior spaces and natural motion and not simulated long straight walking paths. The design was made after many iterations of fluid and dynamic lines and curves as i wanted to challenge myself to not design rectangular buildings for a change. The Buildings combine various functions as shown below.

Semester 9

The upcoming NAINA city is being built by CIDCO to offset the demand produced by the new the Navi Mumbai Airport. The challenge was to build various city blocks and districts. I had gotten public plaza as well as a library. The aim of the design process was to explore forms, areas, and designation and how it would relate to the end-users of a new city. We as a group started deciding the ethos of the district we were allocated. The district was exactly walking distance from major existing villages, making it exactly the central point of focus of the town planning scheme, also other schemes nearby. The Design part of the project started with the idea of not starting with a plan but a section and then making it as interactive as possible. Flat roofs were avoided as they only provide a wastage of usable

Design Dissertation - Embassy of India in Accra was a project I had taken up to look into culturally symbollic architecture which merges form with the function of specialized buildings with highly functional diplomatic spaces. The major sources of inspiration were ancient Indian palaces, caravan serais and rest stops. All of the features of these three were found in the stepwells of Gujarat which became the main inspiration for the leveling of site and design of underground spaces. An underground building provided a sense of security as well as not making the Embassy look pompous in a less fortunate foreign country. The materials were an ode to India’s post-Indepence Modern style of architecture as well as keeping the structure simple and the costs low.

L.I.k. Trophy sem 4 & Sem 6 I had participated in the Louise. I. Kahn Trophy of NASA India, in Second Year, as an Ink Drafter to work on the Final Documentation Sheets. I had bee on the site visit to Naggar Castle, Himachal Pradesh when the seniors taught me the invaluable skills of Heritage Documentation and Archival Photography. The next year, i was elected as the Research Head by senior student guides as they saw my analytical and research skills to be competent enough. I guided the team to Anand Bhavan, Allahabad. We coordinated with various organizations to get permissions, till the last day but we did the entire documentation using many unconventional methods and within Security Protocol. Although i would say, when i participated, our team didn’t win any award in the competition, but i did learn a lot in real and academic life. I would also like to mention that the team that me and my batch trained went on to win the 1st Citation next year.
