Skyhawks: Friday Funtastic Fitness (Ages 2½-5 yrs)
Come join us on Fridays for fantastic fabulous fitness. Let your preschoolers jump, wiggle, kick, shoot and scramble as they spend a few hours each week playing a variety of games. Shhhh, it’s a secret — the kids will be improving their motor skills, but only parents will know that! All the kids will see is that they get to spend three hours playing really cool games! We’ll do everything from freeze tag to egg races to obstacle course runs to learning the fundamentals of soccer and T-ball. All of the games we play are designed to help kids build gross motor skills while instilling a joy around being active. We’ll combine high activity games with those that will allow kids to have some “down time.” Our instructors are trained to specifically work with preschool aged children and they understand the unique needs of children this age. Fun Programming with Python (Ages 8-14 yrs)
Equally popular with students and professionals, Python is easy to pick up yet powerful and versatile. It is a great first programming language to learn because it yields itself well to absolute beginners. The best way to learn programming is by “getting your feet wet” with coding, which is exactly how this class is designed to work. It starts off by introducing the core programming concepts, such as variables, statements, loops, and expressions. It then gradually builds up to more advanced tasks, such as building basic projects and games. Learning to code is easier if you are having a great time, so we’ve tried to make this class as much fun as possible! Material fee of $20 payable to instructor at first class. Introduction to Programming for Kids (Ages 8-12 yrs)
Introduction to Programming for Kids is designed for children eight and older that want to learn how to create their very first computer program. Using Scratch and Python, two popular free programming languages, the learners create fun programs that teach them about expressions, logic, functions, and blocks. The first few sessions of the class will focus on the fundamental programming concepts, such as variables, statements, expressions, and loops. Using these newly discovered concepts, the kids will build complete projects and games filled with art, music, animation, and special effects. Essential concepts are explained using build-along instructions that guide young coders step-by-step, using visual samples, easy-to-follow instructions, and fun pixel art. This class is a slow movement in yoga postures, at one’s own pace, and capacity. It is not about struggling to touch one toes although improvement of flexibility, strength, and balance often occurs. The focus in this class is on observing the moment through the postures and watching the breath. One moves from doing the postures to being in the postures. With practice, and grace, this repeated attention to the now, helps one to move beyond thoughts and emotions to a greater awareness and state of gratitude and happiness. One may experience feeling connected to something larger that oneself. Don began his yoga journey over 40 years ago and has taught yoga for the past 20 years.
