Mg Treatment in Ductile Iron 1) Mg treatment to pouring station transfer takes 4-5 min. Actual Pouring is 8 to 9 Min. inoculation added at pouring station. 2) But Result are okay and we verify microstructure of test sample poured along with last but one mould of each heat. Mg Treatment is carried out in pressure chamber. Casting wt is max up to 45Kg. 3) What is quality issue now?? 4) No quality issue. Feel inoculation consumption is high. 5) S. 1.1% is too high 6) But due to excess Innoculant some quality issues are bound to occur 7) Is it base S? 8) No. Actually i was saying yes to ur comments 9) I don't think so. Even if you are using LPCC it is high. Your Pure Mg consumption will be high with higher S. 10) For SG Iron pouring time up to 12 min is OK.15 min seems to be more.Retained mg can be the issue in some cases,if pouring laddle is not pressure tight closed. 11) Difficult to take spectro sample after pouring last box. 12) Pouring time without fading depends on many factors. I have poured upto 18 min and got 85+% nodularity in last box castings. 13) First box retained mg varies, from .05 to .045 & last box 0.35 to.025 also at the addition rate . 8%Fesimg,but always you should be on toes. 14) One has to optimize treatment size...to have uniform retained Mg and the micro... 15) Does size of treatment has uniformity issue?? 16) Here it is....larger the size ..large the differences... 17) I was saying about time limit, not treatment quantity of metal or uniformity. 18) Larger the treatment size ...longer the poring time for that ladle. ..
