The San Diego Symphony would not be able to operate two venues (The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park and Jacobs Music Center) without the unwavering support of our Volunteers. Their commitment to providing a "virtuoso-level" experience for all our guests starts with 'warm welcomes' and ends with 'fond farewells' at all of our events, concerts, and performances. From helping as ushers to mentoring high school students, our Volunteers do so with a smile. Thank you!

The San Diego Symphony Orchestra launched the 2023-24 Masterworks season in grand fashion, embarking on a Coast-to-Coast tour in October 2023 that included stops at Soka University in Orange County, CA; The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park in San Diego; and Lehigh University in Pennsylvania; before culminating at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The performance at Lehigh University was the orchestra’s first performance at the venue, while the return to Carnegie Hall was the Orchestra’s first performance there in 10 years, when they performed with Lang Lang prior to embarking on a tour to China.
The program for the tour included a commission by Carlos Simon titled Wake Up, Dvořák’s Cello Concerto featuring Alisa Weilerstein, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5.
Between October 6th – October 13th, the San Diego Symphony and Alisa Weilerstein, traveled coast to coast performing at SOKA University, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, Lehigh University, and Carnegie Hall.

On stage at Tijuana's CECUT Cultural Center, this Día de los Muertos skeleton held marigolds as the San Diego Symphony performed in honor of the holiday. The marigolds, or cempasúchil, are believed to guide spirits back to the world of the living, filling the space with vibrant color and scent as music celebrated the beauty and memory of life.
T he San Diego Symphony and Rafael Payare were invited to participate as a centerpiece of CECUT’s annual Día de Los Muertos Festival. The free event on November 2, 2023, attracted audiences throughout the region, as lines to attend the concert snaked for three city blocks. Attendees that could not be accommodated inside were able to watch the concert projected on the side of the building in CECUT’s plaza. The program included Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra ; Chesky’s T he Abreu Danza Nos. 4 & 5; Ortiz’s Kauyumari and Moncayo’s Huapango
San Diego Symphony was one of three anchor institutions to launch the visionary statewide project The California Festival: A Celebration of New Music, together with partner organizations Los Angeles Philharmonic and the San Francisco Symphony. The two-week festival invited organizations throughout the state to program works composed in the past five years during a twoweek period from November 3 – 19, 2023, seeking to showcase the most compelling and forward-looking voices in performances across California. Once completed, the festival showcased 100 participating organizations, more than 140 composers and 180 different works composed in the past five years.
The San Diego Symphony presented four events during the span of the two-week festival. It’s Season Opening Under the Stars at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park – the first official concert of its Jacobs Masterworks season – included Texu Kim’s ZZan!!, David Chesky’s The Abreu Danza Nos. 4 & 5, the West Coast Premiere of a San Diego Symphony co-commission of Billy Childs titled Diaspora (Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra), the World Premiere of Juan Colomer’s A Casual Walk to Extinction and Richard Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra
The second presentation was the California Festival Family and Community Day, a free daylong showcase for San Diego’s vibrant arts scene at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park featuring performances by the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Youth Symphony, San Diego Master Chorale and Art of Elan. Rafael Payare conducted the San Diego Symphony’s performance on this day, which included a collaborative performance of William Starr’s “Twinkle” from Variations on Suzuki Melodies with the San Diego Suzuki School of Music, Carlos Simon’s Journey , Leopold Mozart’s Kindersymphonie , Jessie Montgomery’s Strum and Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.
The SDSO’s third concert featured the World Premiere of Carlos Simon’s Wake Up : Concerto for Orchestra and Wagner’s The Ring Without Words (Arr. Lorin Maazel).
The SDSO’s final concert in the festival included the World Premiere of Vladimir Tarnopolski’s Danse Macabre , Bartók’s The Miraculous Mandarin Suite , Villa Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 7 and Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring . Tarnopolski, a Ukrainian native who was living in Moscow when Russia invaded Ukraine, was forced to flee to Germany where he remained exiled without travel documents during the composition of Danse Macabre The work juxtaposes the 8-note passacaglia from Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 with the Dies Irae melody from the Mass for the Dead, and was described by the San Diego Union Tribune as being simultaneously somber, funny, grim and sardonic, using grotesque and – at times – hilarious orchestral effects to achieve the work’s intent.
One highlight of the San Diego Symphony’s programming was the California Festival Family & Community Day on Sunday, November 5, 2023. This FREE event at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park™ featured various local music organizations. Attendees enjoyed interactive performances, including a bilingual reading of Peter and the Wolf with Prokofiev’s score played by the San Diego Symphony, along with a performance by the San Diego Suzuki School of Music, among others.
As winter approached the San Diego Symphony’s orchestral series returned indoors, again going on the road for a tour of San Diego venues, featuring programs at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, Mandeville Auditorium at UC San Diego, Civic Theatre, California Center for the Arts, and Patrick Henry Arts, Media and Entertainment (PHAME) Center. This tour of San Diego showcased San Diego Symphony musicians as soloists, including Concertmaster Jeff Thayer and Principal Oboist Sarah Skuster performing J.S. Bach’s Concerto for Violin and Oboe; and Andrea Overturf performing Rorem’s Concerto for English Horn and Orchestra. Other works performed during this period included Gabriela Ortiz’ Altar de bronce, Debussy’s La Mer, Ravel’s La Valse and Bolero, Mason Bates’ Violin Concerto; Respighi’s Pines of Rome, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Night on Bald Mountain; and Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
On April 12, 2024, the Jacobs Masterworks season transitioned outdoors to The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park with an unforgettable performance for nearly 4,000 people by the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and the inimitable pianist Lang Lang, conducted by Otto Tausk. Lang Lang performed Saint Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 2, and was joined by pianist (and wife) Gina Alice Redlinger for Saint Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals, before launching into an encore of de Falla’s Ritual Fire Dance.
Scan the QR Code to watch to watch a message from Lang Lang and Gina to San Diego audiences.
Cellist Yo-Yo Ma returned to perform with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra for the first time with Rafael Payare as Music Director. The soldout performance occurred at the Civic Theater in Downtown San Diego on May 7, in which Yo-Yo Ma performed Elgar’s Cello Concerto. The program opened with the Introduction to Act III from Wagner’s Die Meistersinger and closed with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.

Two spectacular concerts at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park closed the memorable 2023-24 Jacobs Masterworks Season. The penultimate program was conducted by Rafael Payare and featured Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, performed by Daniel Lozakovich, and an elaborately staged presentation of Act 1 of Wagner’s Die Walküre . Directed by Gerard McBurney with projection design by Michael Tutaj, audiences were also drawn further into the story with a 50 foot tree onstage and a live fire, as soprano Jennifer Holloway brought to life the character of Sieglinde, bass Peter Rose sang the role of Hunding and tenor Viktor Antipenko performed the role of Siegmund.
The season finale occurred on May 25, conducted by Payare, and opened with pianist Jeremy Denk performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. The second half of the concert featured an immersive presentation of Stravinsky’s The Firebird, with projection design by Michael Tutaj and Hillary Leben, who brought the magical Firebird to life with animated characters projected on the surface of The Shell.
The third summer season at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park featured returning favorites and new collaborations, making San Diego one of the few places in the country that audiences could see orchestral collaborations with many of these guest artists.
36 concerts in just over three months, including classical, pop, films with orchestra, hip-hop, rock, blues and more.
Rafael Payare and the San Diego Symphony kicked off the summer season on June 30, 2023, and were the first of seven concerts in nine days, which also included Southern California’s own The Beach Boys, worldwide pop star Charlie Puth, and a pair of films: Apollo 13 in Concert and How To Train Your Dragon in Concert.
Collaborations with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra included Cypress Hill, Guster, and Judy Collins, and programs highlighting the music of Aretha Franklin; Tchaikovsky X Drake; Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Carly Simon; Selena; and Genesis.
Solo artists making guest appearances on the 2023 Conrad Prebys Summer Season included The Beach Boys, C&C Music Factory (4th of July), Charlie Puth, The Jacksons and Village People, Mariachi Los Camperos, Trombone Shorty with Ziggy Marley and Mavis Staples, Gipsy Kings, Gladys Knight and Patti Labelle, Michael Bolton, Counting Crows, Van Morrison, Buddy Guy, Pat Benatar and Neil Geraldo, 98 Degre es with All-4-One and O-Town, and Richard Marx with John Waite.
Audiences enjoy concerts by Mariachi Los Camperos and Earth, Wind and Fire
The San Diego Symphony presented two holiday programs outdoors at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park in 2023: three performances of its annual holiday favorite Noel Noel and one performance of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas in Concert. More than 11,000 audience members enjoyed SDSO’s Noel Noel, and the sold-out crowd for The Nightmare Before Christmas in Concert – performed just two days prior to Christmas – were treated to an evening of music, film and memory-making.
Musicians of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra also perform annually for the Golden State Ballet. The Golden State Ballet, led by Music Director and conductor John Stubbs (who is also a violinist with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra) presented 10 performances of the Tchaikovsky’s beloved ballet The Nutcracker at the San Diego Civic Theatre between December 15-24, 2023.
The 2023 cast of San Diego Symphony’s annual Noel Noel performance: Devin DeSantis, Lucca Settineri, Zoey Carpenter, Kinley Cox, Levi Lee, Charlotte Leach, Charlotte McClaskey, Eva Lillian Silva, Phoebe Troxil. These performances were conducted by Christopher Dragon. Additional credits: Director, Jonathan Gilmer, Projection Design, Michael Tutaj, San Diego Master Chorale with conductor John Russell, and San Diego Children’s Choir.
In addition to hosting the final Jacobs Masterworks concerts of the San Diego Symphony’s 2023-24 Season, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park hosed a number of events before the start of the 2024 summer season, including two 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees: Peter Frampton in his Never Ever Say Never tour and Kool & The Gang. Other spring concerts included Raiders of the Lost Ark in Concert, a concert by The Who founder and lead singer Roger Daltrey, and the final stop in Derek Hough’s Symphony of Dance tour, in which lead dancer and Hough’s wife Hayley Erbert Hough was featured after recovering from a cranial hematoma suffered earlier in the tour. The audience showered Hough, Erbert and the entire cast with love and gratitude, and was a memorable moment for everyone in attendance.
Each year the San Diego Symphony Orchestra performs the music for the San Diego Opera, one of the foremost opera companies in the United States. During the 2023-24 season, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra performed in four programs with San Diego Opera, including “Grammy Greats Unite: Latonia Moore & J’Nai Bridges in Concert with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra” on October 25, 2023 at the Balboa Theatre; and three programs at San Diego Civic Theatre: El Milagro del Recuerdo (The Miracle of Remembering) on December 1 and 3, 2023; Don Giovanni on February 2 and 4, 2024; and Madama Butterfly on April 26 and 28.
Puccini’s inspiration for his sixth opera was after attending a performance of Madame Butterfly: A Tragedy of Japan, a one act drama by David Belasco, in London in June 1900.
In February 2024,
In December 2023,
On October 25th, 2023, soprano Latonia Moore and mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges performed in concert with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra.
San Diego Symphony believes that music is for everyone, which is why we are committed to serving our community through innovative programming that engages families, enriches schools, empowers young leaders, and brings the power of music to people of all ages and backgrounds.
In the broader community, the symphony's efforts have made significant strides in ensuring music is accessible to all. Through our Music Connects free access program, we presented 14 free community concerts across the region. This program is part of a larger effort to reach underresourced communities, including those in detention facilities such as Las Colinas Women's Detention and Reentry Facility, Youth Transition Campus, and East Mesa Reentry Facility, as well as patients at Rady Children's Hospital. The initiative also included the distribution of 4,500 tickets to 66 nonprofit and military partners. By bringing music to unconventional venues and forming partnerships with community-based organizations, the symphony has reinforced its role in enhancing the cultural and social fabric of the region, making music a vital and accessible part of community life.
The collaboration with CECUT (Centro Cultural Tijuana) further highlights the symphony's commitment to crossborder cultural exchange and celebration. On November 2, during the Día de los Muertos festivities, the symphony
brought a unique blend of cultural programming to Tijuana, showcasing the richness of Mexican traditions and fostering a bi-national dialogue through music. By participating in such culturally significant events and venues, the symphony not only celebrates cultural diversity but also strengthens ties between communities on both sides of the border. These collaborations and initiatives are essential to realizing our mission of changing lives through music, using its transformative power to bring people together, foster understanding, and create meaningful connections across cultures and communities.

This season was the inaugural year of a new elementary school program that was designed in close partnership with educators across San Diego County. Students in grades 3 – 5 are invited to join characters Sound and Silence on an interactive journey across the universe exploring answers to the question: What is music?
The program was designed to meet the needs of teachers and students, allowing them to mix and match in-person and online experiences that support their classroom goals, and prepare students for a culminating concert where they sing and play along with the orchestra.
All program participants received:
• 8 – 10 week digital curriculum guide (with easy-toimplement lesson plans)
• Video resources featuring San Diego Symphony musicians
• Professional development
• Access to a live, in-person culminating concert at Jacobs Music Center or virtual performance
In the very first season, 6,223 students across 78 schools participated in the program, 57% of whom were Title 1 schools.
The San Diego Symphony welcomed 2,600 middle school and high school students and teachers from 29 schools to the Linda & Shearn Platt Open Rehearsals that are designed to support music educators in their learning goals.
In partnership with San Diego State University, music majors had the opportunity to learn from guest artists Pacho Flores and Sir Stephen Hough in the Dr. William & Evelyn Lamden Masterclass program.
As part of the state-wide California Festival, the San Diego Symphony hosted a free Family and Community Day featuring a performance of the orchestra with Rafael Payare. The program featured 80 Suzuki students performing Variations of Twinkle Twinkle with the orchestra, two works by living composers Carlos Simon and Jessie Montgomery, and a bi-lingual narration of Prokofiev’s famous Peter and the Wolf. Throughout the rest of the day the San Diego Symphony will be hosting California Festival concerts by the San Diego Youth Symphony, San Diego Master Chorale, and Art of Elan.
In the 2023-2024 season, puppetry played a key role in our family offerings. The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park welcomed Little Amal, a symbol of hope and unity, as families experienced a mesmerizing performance by the renowned puppetry troupe Animal Cracker Conspiracy. This magical event celebrated the resilience and dreams of Little Amal, a young refugee girl on an extraordinary mission, highlighting the power of empathy and connection across diverse communities.
In April 2024, we partnered with Animal Cracker Conspiracy to develop SPECTRUM: Society of Wonder for La Jolla Playhouse’s WOW Festival. This original puppet work, accompanied by a San Diego Symphony string quartet, wove ancient star lore with mythological beings to guide humanity towards a brighter future. The production was a blend of the silly, supernatural, and sublime, inviting audiences to reflect on the universe and their place within it.
"Step into My World" at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park on November 3, 2023 is produced by San Diego Symphony Orchestra. Amal Walks Across America is produced by The Walk Productions in association with the Handspring Puppet Company.
The San Diego Symphony’s High School Ambassadors program continues to provide meaningful training and employment experiences for students across San Diego County. This paid summer internship, designed to foster college and career readiness, combines professional development workshops with hands-on experience in the performing arts.
During the two-week program, Ambassadors participate in workshops on financial literacy, public speaking, resume and interview preparation, teamwork, and arts administration. Led by symphony staff, musicians, and technical crew, students are exposed to a wide range of careers in the arts and the pathways to achieve them. On weekends, Ambassadors work alongside symphony staff and volunteers as members of the Front of House team, gaining valuable on-the-job experience.
As one student, Ailyn Becerra Corvera from Otay Ranch High School, reflected, "Throughout the High School Ambassadors program I was able to grow both as a person and as an artist by learning from guest speakers and the amazing San Diego Symphony Staff.
One of the highlights of my experience was the day that my group and I presented our concert project, since it was the way in which we were able to see how much we improved. The concert project not only encouraged me but also helped me learn how to plan and create my own personal concert (which will be a charitable event). Once again, thank you so much for this experience.
– Ailyn Becerra, Otay Ranch High School, Chula Vista, Class of 2023
This season, the San Diego Symphony and its prestigious concert venues, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park and Jacobs Music Center, have received international acclaim.

San Diego Symphony delays fall reopening of its concert hall as $125 million renovation continues
The San Diego Union Tribune | July 2023
Everybody has the will to get this done as soon as possible. At the same time, it is imperative that we stay true to the fidelity of the project and that we don’t shortchange the aesthetics or the acoustics or the concert hall, or the ability for our musicians to have time on the stage to adjust to the hall, just like they would with a new instrument. We won’t compromise that.

Payare drove the orchestra with fast tempos, keeping all on their toes, and they responded with ferocious playing. The San Diego Symphony has played “Rite of Spring” more cleanly with other conductors, but for excitement this performance was second to none.

Thanks to unwavering philanthropic support, the Symphony continues to evolve, embracing new opportunities to fulfill its mission of Changing Lives Through Music.
The San Diego Symphony has experienced a truly transformative year, demonstrating remarkable adaptability and resilience in the face of changing circumstances. The 2023-24 Masterworks Season, performed across a variety of venues throughout the county and region, exemplified the Symphony’s commitment to accessibility and its ability to connect with diverse audiences. Under the dynamic leadership of Music Director Rafael Payare, the orchestra delivered critically acclaimed performances, reinforcing its stature as a leading cultural institution. The Symphony's ability to adjust and thrive, despite the complexity of venue logistics, underscores the organization’s capacity to adapt while maintaining high artistic standards. Operating support for the organization grew 5% over the prior year thanks to the addition of 335 new individual donor households to the annual fund.
In parallel, the Symphony enjoyed another successful summer concert season at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, now firmly established as a cultural hub for San Diego. The Shell’s world-class design and prime waterfront location have allowed the Symphony to reach broader audiences, both locally and beyond. The venue’s success as a leading outdoor concert destination not only highlights the Symphony’s artistic versatility but also its continued role in enriching the community. This season, the Symphony's performances across a wide range of genres, from classical to popular music, demonstrated its ability to engage diverse audiences in ways that reflect San Diego’s vibrant cultural landscape.
The organization's special events, including Discovery Night, have further solidified the Symphony’s role as a civic leader and cultural ambassador. These events, aside
from being artistic showcases, have also generated essential philanthropic support. The Symphony’s Learning & Community Engagement programs, which serve over 65,000 individuals annually, have particularly benefited from these events. The steadfast financial backing of individual donors, foundations, corporate partners, and tax-supported entities has been critical in sustaining and expanding these programs. This remarkable and consistent philanthropic support ensures the Symphony’s continued ability to offer impactful educational programming and outreach to under-resourced communities, furthering its mission to "change lives through music."
Perhaps the most significant milestone this year is the progress made on the "Building a Sound Tomorrow" campaign for the renovation of Jacobs Music Center. Set to reopen in September 2024, the historic venue will feature state-of-the-art acoustic and technological upgrades, positioning the Symphony to deliver even more transformative experiences. The reopening of Jacobs Music Center will not only enhance the artistic development of the orchestra but will also expand the Symphony’s capacity to engage with the community. With newly designed spaces for educational programming and cutting-edge technology to enhance performances, the renovated hall will become a beacon for both music lovers and the broader community.
As the San Diego Symphony enters this new chapter, its focus remains on artistic growth, community engagement, and expanding its reach. The organization’s achievements this year are a testament to its resilience, forward-thinking vision, and the enduring power of music to bring people together.

Annual Fund contributions support the San Diego Symphony’s ability to maintain artistic excellence, present exceptional guest artists and conductors, and provide learning and engagement opportunities for San Diego’s culturally rich and diverse community.
The following programs are just a few of the ways to support the Symphony’s Annual Fund:
Partner with a Player participants have a unique opportunity to gain insight into the orchestra and engage with a musician and the Symphony in meaningful ways. Partners provide sustaining annual support and gain an intimate perspective of what it is like to be a musician within an extraordinary group of players.
Partner with a Player is the most popular philanthropic program at the San Diego Symphony because it provides participants with the opportunity to engage with a talented musician or entire orchestra section beyond the concert hall experience. Each year, Partners are hosted at one of the most highly anticipated special events of the year, the annual Partner with a Player onstage side-by-side performance experience and dinner. Partners are seated with their Player on stage and are immersed in an experience from the musician’s point of view.
This past year’s Partner with a Player event was held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at The US Grant Hotel. Sponsors joined their musicians on stage for a performance, followed by a dinner where the musicians sat with their partner for the remainder of the evening.

The San Diego Symphony’s Building a Sound Tomorrow campaign for the Jacobs Music Center Renovation is a transformative project that will enhance the orchestra’s artistic capabilities, elevate audience experiences, and strengthen the Symphony’s Learning and Community Engagement (LCE) initiatives. This $125 million renovation, set for completion in fall 2024, represents a profound investment in both the Symphony and the broader community it serves, with a focus on providing a stateof-the-art environment for music-making and educational programs.
One of the central goals of the renovation is to support the artistic development of the orchestra. Enhanced acoustics are a key feature of the project, providing musicians with the optimal auditory conditions needed to perform at their highest level. By installing advanced sound systems, a permanent orchestra shell, and a newly designed choral terrace, the renovation ensures that musicians can hear each other clearly on stage, allowing for greater precision and unity during performances. Additionally, the backstage improvements, including a dedicated Artists Resource Wing with specialized rehearsal spaces, will give musicians the resources they need to rehearse and prepare with the utmost focus. These upgrades will not only elevate the quality of the performances but also foster a deeper connection between the musicians and their craft, furthering their artistic growth.
For audiences, the Jacobs Music Center will offer a vastly improved experience through its cutting-edge acoustics and enhanced seating arrangements. The immersive auditory experience provided by the new sound system,
combined with an improved seating layout, will allow concertgoers to appreciate the full breadth and depth of the orchestra's music like never before. Whether attending a classical concert, a family event, or a special series, audiences will feel more engaged and connected to the music, making every performance an unforgettable experience. The Jacobs Music Center will now stand alongside the finest concert halls, capable of offering a cultural experience that rivals any venue nationwide.
The impact of this renovation extends beyond performances, with significant benefits to the Symphony’s LCE programs. New spaces and advanced technological features will enrich educational programming for students and families. Programs like Symphony Kids, Currents, and school concerts will benefit from these innovations, allowing for more dynamic and engaging presentations that resonate with young learners. The integration of A/V equipment and multimedia displays will bring music to life for students, offering interactive lessons that combine history, culture, and musical theory. This will greatly expand the reach of the Symphony's educational efforts, helping to serve more than 65,000 individuals annually and ensuring that future generations experience the transformative power of music.
The Building a Sound Tomorrow campaign is an investment in the future of the San Diego Symphony, ensuring that its musicians, audiences, and educational programs thrive in an enhanced, world-class environment. Through this ambitious project, the Symphony will continue to serve as a cultural cornerstone for the community, delivering inspiring performances and impactful educational experiences for years to come.

In the summer of 2023, The San Diego Symphony began the fiscal year launching a successful third season for the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. Jacobs Music Center remained closed for extensive renovations, while Masterworks concerts continued to be held at The Rady Shell and other venues around the county. Ticket Revenue of over 16 million dollars maintained at the level of the prior year. Total Earned Revenue was 28 million dollars, an increase of 7% above the prior year, primarily from larger venue rental events and food & beverage commissions.
Fundraising results ended the year at over 11 million dollars of annual operating support. The San Diego Symphony Foundation contributed an annual endowment distribution of 6 million dollars for operating support.
There was a 5% increase in personnel costs. However, expenses decreased by 4% overall, due to cancelled concerts and efforts made to reduce operating costs during the year.
The preliminary unaudited net operating result for FY24 is a deficit of 1 million dollars, which is positive to budget by over 1 million dollars.
• According to the Arts & Economic Prosperity IV calculator developed by Americans for the Arts, the economic impact of the operations of the San Diego Symphony is far-reaching.
• An estimated $53 million is spent by the Symphony and its audiences in area restaurants, hotels, and other businesses – this activity supports roughly 1,712 fulltime-equivalent jobs in the local economy.
• An estimated $43 million is paid to community residents through the expenditures made by the Symphony and its audiences (household income includes salaries, wages, and proprietary income).
• Approximately $2.2 million in local government revenue and nearly $3 million in state government revenue are realized as a result of the expenditures made by the Symphony and its audiences (taxes, license fees, etc.).

On September 27th, 2024, The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony ended with the cutting of the ribbon by Irwin Jacobs and San Diego Symphony High School Ambassadors, Aysha Lopez and Laiyina Shate, marking the official opening of the building. It was immediately followed by a citizenship / naturalization ceremony for San Diego Symphony's music director, Rafael Payare.

(Left and Below ) Saturday, September 28, marked our grand Opening Night Concert - the first public performance in the hall. The program was a glittering display of musicality, featuring ensembles of various sizes and locations within the hall, starting with a world premiere of a commission by Texu Kim titled “Welcome Home!!” Following the concert, over 350 supporters joined a gala dinner at the Pendry Hotel to celebrate this new chapter for San Diego.
