Welcome
to San Diego Symphony’s 2012-2013 season!
Join us for one of our best seasons ever featuring acclaimed pianists Lang Lang and Olga Kern, violinist Joshua Bell, soprano Denyce Graves and The Romeros, The Royal Family of the Guitar. This season’s lineup also includes favorites such as Beethoven’s Pastoral and Eroica Symphonies, Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique and Rimsky-Korsakov’s exotic and seductive Scheherazade. We are also thrilled to present one of America’s most celebrated composers John Williams, who will conduct two special performances (tickets available only to subscribers). Something different, something new: Our Winter Pops series is now CITY LIGHTS! Experience hot entertainment and a cool night on the town. Principal pops conductor Marvin Hamlisch leads the way as we welcome Broadway’s Brian Stokes Mitchell, Kenny G and The 5 ‘piano-playing’ Browns to the stage. Our bars offer drinks you can take back to your seat. And after the show, enjoy dancing with DJ in the lower lobby. Also, our Symphony Exposé, Family Festival and Chamber Music concerts provide something for everyone. With these three series, learn how the music comes alive. Bring the kids for a fun afternoon, or experience a smaller ensemble of world-class musicians. I look forward to seeing you at the San Diego Symphony!
Jahja Ling
Music Director
“Ling and the orchestra had connected with the Force. The audience seemed to be in a trance resulting in a silence as memorable and meaningful as the entire performance.” – U-T San Diego
“As I listened to the San Diego Symphony, everything was in its place. The orchestral transitions were smooth and nearly seamless.” 2
